AVG Internet Security tops the Free and Pro versions through a number of additional features designed to protect you when you browse the Internet. It builds a safer environment, by blocking all suspicious threats and all known malware types.
AVG Internet Security has a professional, well-organized interface that provides quick access to its most important modules. The Overview section displays the status of each utility, namely: Anti-Virus, LinkScanner, E-mail Protection, Firewall, Anti-Rootkit, System Tools, PC Analyzer, and Identity Protection.
The application allows you to scan the whole computer or specific files/ folders only. Scheduling scans is also possible. Full reports are displayed once the software finishes analyzing your files.
The Anti-Virus component provides real-time protection against viruses, worms, Trojans and spyware, while the LinkScanner blocks any suspicious third-party connections that try to connect to your computer.
The Firewall module protects you from harmful attacks by monitoring the communications on every port. This feature is essential if you often perform banking transactions or if you shop online. By quickly detecting intrusions in your network, it forbids access to your personal information.
E-mail protection scans incoming and outgoing e-mails, and filters spam, while the System Tools offers you information regarding running processes, network connections and browser extensions.
You and your computer are safe with the Identity Protection feature enabled. It protects your digital assets, by blocking all activities that can potentially lead to ID theft.
As a bonus, AVG Internet Security also includes a PC analyzer that scans the computer for registry errors, junk files and broken shortcuts.
For such a heavy suite, AVG Internet Security uses a normal amount of memory resources, but it is thorough and rarely wrong. It quietly sits in the system tray, while you’re enjoying a safe browsing experience.

Users may decide for themselves whether they want the av utility to be quick or thorough, as well as to pick speed over resources usage or the other way around. When it comes to malware detection ratio and scanning speed, Internet Security does not disappoint. Overall, users probably find the app's extra layers of security to their liking.

AVG has stepped up its game with a new, Windows 8-friendly interface and features that help enhance its identity and information security; however, poor showings in independent testing and a frustrating emphasis on upselling keep it from reaching the top. If you are looking for good security without a bunch of extra features, AVG might work for you.

AVG Internet Security is not one of the top 10 products in terms of protection from malware. Nevertheless, although some competitors have more features, AVG has features absent from some of the best internet security software: a data safe that protects files behind a password, as well as a file shredder that permanently removes deleted files. If you are content with the feature set, there is no reason to shy away from the product due to performance considerations. It does better than average at protecting against threats, and it slows down its host computer less than average.
