  • We had been using a much more expensive survey tool for our monthly Net Promoter Score survey. We wanted to switch to something more user-friendly and less expensive. We compared several survey apps that could: a) reduce our monthly costs b) be customized to our brand and needs and c) Import the data results in an easy way. SurveyMonkey met all of our needs and we decided to go with the Gold Plan. It's very easy to use, intuitive and responsive. It has allowed us to customize the survey and the email collector to fit our business brand and saved us a a lot of money!

Pros : -Pricing -User-friendly -Great Reporting tool -Clean and easy way to see results

Cons : -Support can be a bit slow -If using the email collector, must know basic HTML to customize the look of the email to your brand

  • SurveyMonkey Use Cases and Deployment ScopeWhen we have very simple surveys -- limited skips, short, etc. -- where we don't have to go to an outside supplier's web site, we set it up on our company web site with Survey Monkey.

Pros : Cost is very reasonableVery easy to program surveys -- no high level training/learning curve requiredThe survey format is very attractive and easy for respondents to fill out

Cons : Does not work well with more complex surveys with complicated skip patternsInability to include graphics or video into surveyWe can only use it when we have email addresses for target respondents or we have to contact them via phone, letter, etc. and ask them to come to our site. This requires that we have sufficient sample to allow for non-respondents.

  • What do you like best?

The software is relatively straightforward so you can get a simple survey up and running in a relatively short time. Inexpensive - far less expensive than the powerful survey software. If you only have simple surveys, then you can't beat the price. Also, it does offer users some abilities to customize the look and feel of a survey so you're not stuck with some basic, 'out of the box' look. Finally, I found their customer service people responsive, friendly, and helpful. Keep in mind that only the highest level subscriptions allow you to speak to a representative so unless you're willing to shell out the

    What do you dislike?

The "collector". Every survey software has their complex aspect that's usually unnecessarily complex and it turns out that SurveyMonkey is no exception. Each survey is associated with a "collector" that contains a set of attributes and settings that govern how the data is collected from respondents. If you're not technically apt, the collector can throw a MonkeyWrench into the mix preventing you from getting a simple survey up and running quickly. It can take awhile to get your head around this one as it is not an intuitive feature. Once you understand it, you almost wonder how other survey software gets around the idea of not having it. And you can use one collector for different surveys or you can switch collectors for a given survey. But before you get to that understanding, we could see where most people would be scratching their head and pulling a Curious George wondering why this element is even there in the first place.

I started using Survey Monkey as a way to engage business classes I taught to see how effective I was as a consultant. I receive a lot of response back by using their well known branded software. There are so many uses to the surveys as a consultant, for marketing, and as a general way to gain insight into my customers and potential customers.Very glad I signed up.

    Pros :

    • Super easy to get started with.
    • Novice friendly.andnbsp;
    • Visual builder was easy to use, drag and drop features and multiple choices to upload contacts or copy and paste emails to quickly get the survey out.

    Cons :

    • Nope.

Survey Monkey was very easy to set up an account and the interface for building the surveys was equally very easy to use and very intuitive to learn. The free offering is a great place to start if you have a small list to send to (100 people or less) and you don't need to ask more than 10 questions in the survey, and the advanced tiers offer more of the same service, but with a larger reach and with progressively more bells and whistles. Most average users won't need the more advanced features, like "Skip Logic" and "Randomization", but if you build a lot of these surveys and you want more flexibility to do more with them, then the $25 per month GOLD package is the place to go.

    Pros :

    • There are several pricing tiers, but they do offer a free tier, which is a great place to start, as you can actually use the software and send out a real survey without actually spending any money.
    • GOLD tier is very affordable at only $25 per month, and allows for "Unlimited Questions" and "Unlimited Responses", plus many other features that you may, or may not, use, but are nice to have.
    • From my experience, the email support is fairly responsive, and relatively efficient in resolving any issues you may have.
    • I certainly recommend this service to anyone, especially at the FREE tier, if for nothing else just to get your feet wet.

    Cons :

    • If you don't want the Survey Monkey branding on your surveys, then you need the "white label surveys" option which is apparently only available in the $85 per month PLATINUM plan.
    • I don't see this as a huge CON because Survey Monkey has become such a well-known name, and I think that people, at this point, are just about blind to the co-branding of vendor services. Other than that, there is very little to complain about. andnbsp;

We are a non-profit organization of colleges in North and South Carolina. Each year the organization’s activities include college fairs, school counsellor conferences, professional development programs, and an annual meeting.andnbsp; Our Executive Committee, Program Chairs, volunteers, and conference attendees all come from higher education. Perhaps it is that pedigree which makes the assessment so important to us.andnbsp; Survey Monkey has allowed us to assess the success of our programs and much more.

Our organization is fifty years old. For most of that time, surveys were a piece of paper or two that were handed out at the conclusion of a meeting, fair, or conference.andnbsp; The low response rate was a problem for us. If the attendees completed the survey at the event, we would get their responses.andnbsp; If they brought the paper survey home, it was unlikely they would complete and mail the survey back to us. Furthermore, analyzing the responses that we did get was a manual, time-consuming effort.

Survey Monkey allowed us to turn this around.andnbsp; We use it for pre-event questionnaires, as well. Typical pre-event survey might ask potential attendees for their preferences regarding session topics, social activities, areas or professional interest.

Designing and publishing a survey is straightforward.andnbsp; A survey newbie can easily create a professional looking survey. Distribution of the survey is facilitated by a URL link generated by the software.

I should mention that the primary software package we use for our business does include a survey tool.andnbsp; However, the ease of survey design and the ease of results analysis offered by Survey Monkey make the small extra fee well worth it.

    Pros :

    • We are now able to time the distribution of the survey to the perfect time after the conference to maximize response rate.
    • The responses are captured in a file which can be imported into Excel and analyzed easily.

    Cons :

    • None.

Easy way to gain market insights through surveying prospects and customers. Gaugin customer satisfaction through NPS surveys and generating new, qualified leads has never been easier.

    Pros :

    • Very easy to use.
    • Has all the features and integration you need.
    • Provides great onboarding and service.

    Cons :

    • Nothing that I can think of, everything is working and if we have questions they get answered.

I've found SurveyMonkey to be most useful in terms of marketing, branding, and event feedback. It's a good tool to generate all kinds of surveys, offering a variety of question forms - multiple choice, open-ended, ordered lists, etc. You can easily design a custom survey to fit pretty much any basic need.

I've used it most often for event planning -- asking guests to vote on activities they would like to see -- and for post-event feedback. It's a great way to assess the engagement in your event and to make changes in planning the next event. I've also used it in contests/award ceremonies as a voting tool, in awareness campaigns for users to share how much they have digested, and a wide variety of other use cases. You can create different sections for different parts of your event -- for instance, you can gather feedback on each of your speakers or panels in addition to general feedback.

The reporting is pretty robust, offering several options of how you would like to see results (pie charts v. line graphs, etc.) You can also break down results by user, and you can save the results as a PDF report, which is great when you are reporting up or out to your team.

    Pros :

    • SurveyMonkey offers easy UX, quite a bit of functionality options, and decent reporting.
    • I really appreciate the drag-and-drop functionality available in organizing your questions.
    • Users seem to be familiar and comfortable with it, and I've seen great open rates.
    • I recommend using it after every event to maximize your planning efforts.

    Cons :

    • The only constraints I see with SurveyMonkey is limited design functionality.
    • The ability to incorporate your own branding is not very robust, and the interface can seem a bit generic if you're looking for a very customized corporate solution.

Survey Monkey is a great "simple and easy" survey tool to use for everything from customer feedback, market research, employee engagement or just simple polls. With a price ranging from free to less than $1,000/year, Survey Monkey is a great solution for companies that don't need anything TOO in depth. After working in the EFM field for a handful of years, it was easy to see that SurveyMonkey was making the right moves around partnering with the right companies and offerings so that customers could get what they needed. Providing "Survey takers" and services, companies didn't need to rely on their own teams to handle carrying out a survey.

    Pros :

    • Cheap.
    • With the numerous Survey tools out in the market (Qualtrics, SM, Cvent, Inquisium, Verint, QuestionPro, SurveyGizmo, Survey Frog ((yes, Survey Frog is a real thing)), etc), it's hard to pick and chose
    • SurveyMonkey not only offers a solid tool for collecting feedback, but it also comes as a very low price point.
    • For companies looking to run surveys that aren't "mission critical" to the business, SM is a great system.
    • Easy to navigate.
    • Survey Monkey makes it easy to start, create and launch surveys. Not having to know a deep background of survey best practices, survey monkey allows anyone to run surveys.

    Cons :

    • Look and Feel.
    • Like I mentioned above, there are a lot of survey tools in the EFM space, and SurveyMonkey does NOT separate itself from the pack on Look and Feel. While the surveys are easy to set up, they aren't the most appealing or attractive to the eyes. This can greatly affect the response rate of your survey, especially when you are reaching out to customers as we are all bombarding with 100's of emails a day, and a SurveyMonkey survey doesn't stand out. Customization.
    • SM does not have much customization on the backend, especially around "logic". Logic is a way of setting up a survey so that when someone answers a survey a certain way, the questions following represent that. SM offers some simple logic (ex: if I use product A, my following questions will be about product A), but what it lacks is the ability for more in depth options.

Survey Monkey is a tool that anyone can use. Individuals and businesses can utilize Survey Monkey to conduct surveys and get a pulse on what people are thinking. I first used Survey Monkey when I worked at a business, and we were attempting to gain feedback from our customers on how we were doing as a company. The survey was easy to set up and easy to deliver. Users accessed their survey online, and were able to navigate without trouble. And for us, it was great because we were able to easily look into the data and discover the results. I really enjoyed using it, and we actually did our surveys on a quarterly basis, and then used the results to help us improve our practices.

    Pros :

    • One of the pros of Survey Monkey is that there is a free option. This is great for small organizations to survey their employees, or for small organizations to survey their volunteers. And obviously, that means there is also a paid subscription. But really, this is great for companies and groups that want greater capabilities.
    • Another pro is that it's so easy to set up. Setting up our surveys and making them “live” was easy as well.
    • The responses and data are viewed and displayed clearly. Easy to use and easy to send out to targeted email addresses.

    Cons :

    • The main con is that Survey Monkey is great for simple surveys, not really sure how it handles more complicated and complex data. In other words, when just trying to find out answers to simple questions with little to no variance in the answers, then Survey Monkey is a great tool.
    • Another con is that in order to integrate with Excel, a professional plan is required. I'm expecting this to be the case since the “free” option is really basic, but I would like to be clever to use Excel since that is so common even with small groups and organizations.

SurveyMonkey is by far the most well-known survey tool online and for good reason. With the most robust tools and some of the best pricing for different packages and options, SurveyMonkey is a marketer's best tool when collecting product, service or industry data. Professional, customizable surveys, and designs mean that brands can maintain their identity and image when using the platform while still ensuring the end product is powerful and reliable. Integrations between different platforms also mean that you can get more out of your surveys and connect the dots between your other marketing actions without double work or worry about data sharing issues. If you're looking to collect valuable information from people, SurveyMonkey is the way to go.

    Pros :

    • Most of the basic options and tools are free with SurveyMonkey, allowing just about anyone or any business create a high-quality survey with everything they need without breaking the bank.
    • Outside of the cost and the functionality, the ability to integrate SurveyMonkey with other platforms and applications like marketing automation software (HubSpot, MailChimp, etc.) and CRM's means that you can get the absolute most out of the platforms and the results collected through it.
    • The analytics tool is also pretty powerful and helps you break up responses in many different ways.

    Cons :

    • The user interface isn't the most friendly and can make it hard to create a survey and functionality exactly the way you want on your first try.
    • This can mean you spend more time figuring out the tool and the setup, and less time collecting and analyzing the data.

SurveyMonkey makes it easy to create surveys using a variety of question types. A lot of templates come preloaded with the software and survey links can be shared directly using various mediums like email, websites, blogs and social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Linkedin, etc. It also provides basic analytics and reports to analyze and summarize the survey responses. It can be integrated with most of the applications like CRM solutions which helps to tie the responses with the consumers and get a better and bigger picture of the customers.

    Pros :

    • Surveys can be designed to cater to people without perfect vision.
    • The questions can be made mandatory to respond or can be made optional as well.
    • Surveys designed are even mobile and tablet friendly which makes it convenient for responders to respond while on the go.
    • It even helps to reach out to the required audience and get the responses.
    • Obviously this is a paid service but it is very helpful when you need quick and validated responses.
    • Also, you know the complete profile of the responder.

    Cons :

    • SurveyMonkey lacks flexibility while designing the surveys. One can’t add a particular option to a multiple choice question at a particular position.
    • One has to even download the essay type questions separately.
    • Sender’s name is not customizable which does not seem very professional while sharing the survey links via email. It offers the option to randomly shuffle the choices in multiple choice questions, but one can’t choose a subset of options to shuffle. One can still choose not to shuffle the last item, but even that becomes a problem if two options like ‘None of the Above’ and ‘Others’ is available.
    • It does not support routing and piping based on complex logics.
    • It doesn't allow you to define the flow of questions based on responses to more than one question.
    • It also does not allow translating the surveys. So, in case a survey is required in multiple languages for a global enterprise, one has to create multiple surveys in different languages which waste a lot of effort.
    • There is no way to generate a unique link for each receiver so that one can only use that link once.

Survey Monkey offers several tiers within their software and while they're all great, if you're looking to generate lengthy in-depth surveys with mass distribution price can become hard to justify quickly. My first experiences with Survey Monkey came several years ago in my college marketing classes. When we had to do consumer research, Survey Monkey was often our go-to software for survey distribution. The free service they offer is great. It's short (allowed ten questions in your survey, can be any type of answer), easy to set up (walks you through directions screen by screen), allows you to view what the survey will look like before publishing, and then once published can be distributed very easy. The surveys look great and professional, you get to choose how many questions are displayed on a page, the order and everything. Survey Monkey does a great job making sure everything can be customized to best fit the way you want the survey to look and feel. The data reports are also great. You can look at the graphs of answers to quickly discover averages and trends. You are also able to look at each survey response to all of the questions, so if there was any data that seemed strange or off, you can go back and look at participants answers. Survey Monkey's free offerings are great for college students, small survey needs! Survey Monkey, however, can become pretty pricey when you start getting into lengthy complicated surveys. In a business setting where you are needed in-depth surveys distributed to thousands or more, price becomes astronomical, and the level of customization becomes a lot of work to even set up the initial survey to make sure it's functioning right. That's when I would maybe look into other options, one that has a team that can set up and distribute the survey for you rather that having to do it in house. Survey Monkey is great at the small level, as need and size increases though so does price. That is where the justification can grow difficult.

    Pros :

    • Several pricing tiers, including a free option.
    • Easy to use.
    • Customizable.
    • Reports over data are great.
    • Looks professional.

    Cons :

    • Can become pricey quickly.
