  • Excellent for small businesses

We've used FogBugz for years and were extremely happy with it. Unfortunately we switched away when we grew and personally I'm very unhappy with the switch (to JIRA). FogBugz is great for day-to-day users. Entering cases is very straightforward, as is organizing and searching for them. It has a very user friendly simple search and a great advanced search (really thanks to Lucene).

Pros : Everything about day-to-day usage is wonderful. Quick to enter cases, quick to manage, easy to search. Especially love the keyboard shortcuts.

Cons : Price. It's great for small teams but once you grow past a few dozen users, it gets very expensive.

  • Simple, but too simple

    What do you like best?

Plugin system is good. Support is quick to answer emails.

    What do you dislike?

Overly simplistic, buggy (not overly so but enough to be annoying), inability to save drafts, and I absolutely disagree with their philosophy of combining severity and priority.

Recommendations to others considering the product

If you find it limiting, attempt to code plugins to work around the limitations so that it fits your needs. Would be a good opportunity to offer a developer a pet-project to flex his/her skills, or perhaps a capable intern.

What business problems are you solving? What benefits have you realized?

At a previous company we used FogBugz to track bugs and partially to handle support requests. For how my team used it, we were able to work efficiently enough, though we were hindered by its overly simplistic nature and bugs at times.

Fantastic tool for bug-tracking and AGILE development.

    What do you like best?

The ease at which one can glance at a whole lot of bugs. As a QA person, it's important to be able to see if bugs are already raised or not, so as not to waste engineering's time --- Fogs was pretty awesome at that. I also liked how one could use the software to see the history of bugs, the commits made, and the way that we could track changesets --- it was useful to see when something broke, or if some fix was the culprit.

    What do you dislike?

When we began collabing with other places, they preferred Jira over Fog because they felt more plugins existed [hipchat, zephyr, etc.] which Fog was lacking. Regardless of what the ecosystem for FogBugz is, it feels a bit small --- especially in times where everything can connect with everything else.

Recommendations to others considering the product

Try it. Especially if you're using Excel or Google Sheets still for bug tracking.

What business problems are you solving? What benefits have you realized?

We've build a number of apps with in-house and external engineers, and we were hoping to raise and squash bugs in an AGILE fashion. Compared to some of the horror stories I've heard from friends about sharing google docs full of bugs, FogBugz made it easy to check bugs, assign bugs, see the history of bugs, and so forth.

Fogbugz is hands down the best team management tool I've used

    What do you like best?

The organization and filter searching options are stellar. Fogbugz is excellent for managing multiple projects, sprints, and milestones.

    What do you dislike?

There is a bit of a learning curve, and at first I felt a little overwhelmed - like a kid in a sandbox for the first time. Occasionally, and this might well be because we have over 200k total tickets, Fogbugz runs a bit slow. That learning curve is only exacerbated when the pages load slowly.

Recommendations to others considering the product

100% worth checking out, especially if you have a larger project with tons of moving parts.

What business problems are you solving? What benefits have you realized?

We use Fogbugz for product management organization where we have a lot of moving parts to account for. Fogbugz helps us organize and mobilize our remote team and we also use it for managing and answering our users' feedback/requests.

  • Fogbugz is simple, flexible and easy to maintain. Great for SMB's, not great for large organizations."

FogBugz Use Cases and Deployment ScopeWe are currently using FogBugz for our internal Production, Development, and Project Management teams. It is serves as a light weight task management system to move/track jobs between departments. it is effectively a virtual job jacket for our creative agency.  We introduced the tool to support our teams with tracking fast moving jobs and keeping individuals accountable for responsibilities for a given job. It also helps team member transitions and coverage by showing a quick summary of the job history.  We selected the tool for it's simplicity, flexibility and ease of management because it would be used company wide accommodating varying experience levels of task management literacy.

Pros : Simplicity: Compared to other tools like JIRA and even Bugzilla, FogBugz minimizes the number of fields. The general workflow and status' of a given task works well for us. (Assigned, Resolved, and Closed).Flexibility: The List views are highly customizable. This allows for many ways to display information and create custom lists for teams and departments. It has prebuilt queries, and basic boolean syntax that you can Stitch together to build a list.Easy to maintain: There are just two types of

Cons : The simplicity of a single admin type user is not great because anyone who can create a job or client in the system, can also add and delete users. Content and User administrative rights should be separated. There are ways to change the terminology/lexicon within the tool, but we are not able to get it to work even after reaching out to tech support. So we are forced to use the system terminology that doesn't match up to our company making training a bit difficult. There is a subscribe function th
