Citrix Sharefile is a late entrant to the crowded file sharing and storage service market. It provides robust and secure cloud storage and offers complete file tracking for shared files. It can be easily integrated with some enterprise applications. Files are encrypted both in transit and while in storage on their servers. One can remotely remove the shared content in case of device theft.
Citrix Sharefile has made sharing the files very easy through email using a plugin. The process remains the same as attaching a file in your email. So, without any change in user experience, one is able to large media files through their email. But attaching a large file via email can take a very long time. So one can simply upload the file and share a link to the file with the recipient. The recipient can then access this file from anywhere and any device using a web browser. Citrix Sharefile deploys AES 256-bit encryption which is an advanced encryption method. Citrix servers are also protected by various antivirus solutions and firewalls so as to protect your files from theft. It offers complete control of your files by providing complete tracking of who accessed the file and providing an ability to set file link expiration date. The best feature is that it maintains unlimited file versions for all the files. This helps to restore the file to any previous version and is very helpful when multiple people are working on the same file. Citrix Sharefile can seamlessly integrate with any Enterprise Content Management System like Microsoft Sharepoint or Filenet. One can even connect to other cloud storage providers like Box, Google Drive, Microsoft OneDrive and Dropbox.
One cannot add an additional layer of password protection to their files. This makes sharing your files using a link is very vulnerable. Anyone having an access to that link can download the file. So there is no way to share files with a view only mode. Citrix Sharefile is a very expensive file sharing option for enterprises especially when they have a large number of users. It is only cloud-based and does not offer an option to have a folder synced on every device.
4shared is one of the largest file hosting services. It supports category search and file sharing. The key feature of the service is providing public access to the files. However, you can use 4shared just for storing your files and their synchronization. The free plan is very loyal: 15 GB of disk space is offered. The size of a single file should not exceed 2048 MB, and the monthly bandwidth is set to 100 GB. Premium account pricing starts from $9,95/month. Paid users can take advantage of 100 GB of disk space, and download managers support, broken downloads resume. It is also possible to view and create archives on the server, to use (S)FTP Protocol, to use file recovery (even if they were deleted from the Recycle bin). Although there are many useful options present in the free subscription. Multithreading, file preview, and software support are among them. All data is backed up, however, file storage time is limited to 180 days since the last login. The desktop application lets you can specify a folder to synchronize, configure the properties of the file and the program behavior during the download and the uploading. The responsive web interface allows you to perform basic file operations, to search, to sort data and to change display modes. It is not easy to find a platform that is not supported by 4shared. There are desktop applications not only for Windows and Mac but also for Linux. Mobile support is not limited to Android and iOS. The Windows Phone, Symbian, Blackberry and even Nokia Full Touch users are also welcomed.

What do you like best?Sharefile did make saving files that were too large for our case management software (Legal Files) more convenient. What do you dislike? It isn't particularly intuitive and was very buggy when we used it. For co-workers with less reliable internet connections or who were less computer literate it was incredibly difficult to use.Recommendations to others considering the productThere are easier programs to use out there. ShareFile gets the job done in that it does store large files. When we were using it there seemed to be constant problems with uploading and organizing files. While I'm sure some of that was attributable to user error since we have some employees who are less computer literate, the difficulty they experienced turned us off this product. What business problems are you solving? What benefits have you realized? We used it to store large video and audio files, which it did do. It was getting the documents in there and organized that was more difficult.More about Citrix ShareFile
