  • I've been using this software for various SEO related tasks such as keyword research, SEO assessment, link building, SERP tracking (before it was discontinued) and other functions but mostly reporting. The interface used to be slow but it improved. It was very helpful in the beginning in creating really impressive reports and earning me leads with its page assessment. Occasionally I would find bugs but customer support would help. It's a very chaotic industry and providing help is important esp. for a low price compared to competitors.

  • I haven’t quite decide whether Raven is really a site-specific browser or simply a better way to build a browser.     We got on early with this company's service. We have been using them for about 3-4 years. I would certainly recommend them to anyone that manages a large number of website properties. The organization has an impressive business model that helps keep the price very low. Essentially all clients are treated the same, and the cost is essential $99 per month for agency-type setup, or if you prefer, "Enterprise License".

    There are few things that can increase your monthly cost, such as if you go over your limits on certain pieces of the software, usually around services that constantly monitor things like SEO ranking, etc.

    Pros :

    • The service is really stable, and they seem to make improvements to their offering over time.
    • Because they offer a low monthly price point, unless you are managing only a couple of websites, it is hard to not be able to fit this service into your budget.

    Cons :

    • One of the reasons the price is low is that they do not really offer quick support services, such as via phone. In fact, the last time I checked, I do not think that they list a phone number on their website at all.
    • If you are comfortable dealing with a digital-only, virtual-company, which I am fine with, this might not even be a "Con" for you. Another "con" has been that in recent years, the company has had us "relink" or "re-authorize" our links to Google products, like Google Analytics. This was a very manual process where we had to add an email address on the Google Analytics side and then come back to Raven Tools to complete the process. This doesn't sound too bad, and it really wasn't, until you have 100 websites that you have to do this for. Similar things like this have happened more than once.
    • To be fare, I would guess that this was large, if not completely, due to changes made on the Google side, and it's hard to blame Raven Tools for this, but it was still a huge pain.

    Raven is a very good tool for keeping track of a website's SEO status. All decent marketers know that SEO is one of the most important aspects for driving traffic to a website. Depending on the range of services and amount of products which a site offers, as well as the expected target audience, managing a website's search engine optimisation level, can quickly become a difficult task. That is where software like Raven come in. Raven, unfortunately, comes at a cost, as it is definitely not cheap. However, it is priced more or less on the same level as its competitors, and a free trial is available without having to supply credit card information. Unlike a number of competitors, there is also no limit to the amount of websites which can be tracked through Raven, so the fees can definitely be worth it for a number of marketing executives. Raven does an excellent job of crawling search engines to analyse which keywords are most suited for the respective website, essentially making sure that the right keywords are used throughout the website. Another useful feature of Raven is that SEO reports can be generated for weekly, monthly as well as quarterly periods. Daily reports are also available. However, those are only possible with the most expensive plans. SEO statistics work hand in hand with data collected through Google Analytics too, since the product has native support for Google's tool. Furthermore, campaigns can be targeted towards particular users and cater for each group differently, such as existing clients and potential clients. When setting up these campaigns, they can be based around results obtained through scans carried out by Raven on competitors' websites, taking advantage of another very useful feature. Raven can also be used to analyse and audit the current SEO techniques of a website, and how they can be improved, or what changes can be made to improve SEO. It can also be used like a learning tool.

    Pros :

    • Free trial without need of a credit card.
    • Can be used on an unlimited amount of websites.
    • Weekly, monthly and quarterly SEO reports are available in most plans.
    • Numerous reporting options available which amalgamate all SEO data in one place.
    • Good integration with Google Analytics, providing statistics based on that data too.
    • Raven can scan websites owned by competitors to analyse their SEO campaigns.
    • Reports available to indicate what can be done for improving SEO.

    Cons :

    • Extra users come at a cost, unlike some other tools which allow for unlimited users
    • Daily SEO scanning is only available in the more expensive plans.
    • Data is not real-time.

    An easy way to aggregate google analytics, Bing Analytics, AdWords results, webmaster (search console) data, and the custom pieces I need to add every month -- all in one place in a repeatable way. This has taken a full day's work for client reports down to about 2-3 hours doing client reports. I also use the Site Audit as a pre-sales/upsell tool to show clients that there is work that can be done and how I've improved their SEO. They also have reporting on email metrics from all of the top email providers. Additionally, they have a keyword manager and competitor manager so you can keep track of how your doing compared to your competitors.

    Pros :

    • Easy to use.
    • If you sign up for an agency account, you can setup branded, scheduled reports.
    • The reports are not simply PDFs... they are live / interactive reports for clients. Integration with all major analytics, PPC, and other sources, including integration with Google Webmaster Tools (Search Console).
    • Social media integration also (if you have admin access to the social media profile).
    • Social media include not only Facebook and Twitter but also LinkedIn and YouTube stats.
    • You can order content from the linked content provider (costs money) if you want to have everything in one place.
    • URLs for reports are permanent, but can represent live data (depending on how its setup).
    • You could send a report to a client and reuse that same URL every period and have the data just update live.
    • Adding additional web properties is very simple, and you can copy report templates from other properties.

    Cons :

    • Need to reset GWT authentication regularly... but this is not their fault... Google keeps changing things.
    • Custom section of client report is slightly glitchy - when I add a new URL, it overwrites my description from my saved template... but workable.
