Salesforce.com is headquartered in San Francisco and was founded in 1999 by Marc Benioff, Dave Moellenhoff, Park Harris, and Frank Dominguez as a company specializing in software as a service (SaaS). The team was behind the initial sales automation software that was launched in 1999.
Even if Salesforce's revenue comes from a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) product, it also tries benefiting from the commercial application of social networking trough acquisition.
In June 2004, Salesforce.com went public on the New York Stock Exchange under the stock symbol CRM, raising $110 million. After this, the company applied to trademark the term " Social Enterprise " in the US, EU and Jamaica. Finally, in 2015 it was considered one of the most highly valued American cloud computing companies with a market capitalization of $50 billion.
