Mozy is one of those that you don't know you would ever need until your computer dies and leaves you with nothing but a brick and all your data lost. This light and easy to use application allows you to backup all of your files online aka in the cloud where your data will be safer than on your personal computer. There are loads of competitors in this segment, while Mozy is not the best at what it does it is very decent and priced adequately.
Services for remote storage and files synchronization are very convenient, but how safe they are? Well, it is possible to use encryption applications and thus not to worry about data privacy. Boxcryptor is a specialized solution to ensure file security on cloud services. Created as a Dropbox add-on, today this app supports all popular cloud services. However, free version includes encryption of data stored on just one service, and you cannot enable the encryption of file names. The service offers support for all major platforms, both desktop, and mobile. There is even an extension for Google Chrome. To work with Boxcryptor, you will need to create a new account. Forgetting your password is strongly not recommended! Boxcryptor automatically detects which popular cloud services clients are installed. Then it creates a virtual disk and adds it in the appropriate folders. By using program settings, it is possible to manage all your connected folders: to add, to disable encryption, etc. While saving files on the virtual disk the content is encrypted "on the fly", using a key length of 256 bits and AES algorithm. Once you try to open a file, the program in decrypts it in real time. Thus, there is no inconvenience with files in your everyday work. However, the files are encrypted on servers, eliminating the possibility of access by third persons. Unlike other solutions for data encryption, BoxCryptor encrypts individual files, not containers. This eliminates problems with synchronization. If the BoxCryptor is not installed, you will see only the file names. When you try to open them, you will receive a set of unreadable characters. That's why BoxCryptor should be installed on all devices that are linked to the cloud service.

Mozy's biggest sin wasn't mentioned in any of the reviews. An obvious reason for making backups is to be protected from accidentally deleting files. If your fingers slip while typing, you can wipe out dozens of files and not realize it. Or someone else using your computer might delete them. Or there may be a glitch in the file system and Windows loses track of some files. If you delete a file by accident and don't notice it, Mozy will delete the backups of the file too. I kid you not.More about Mozy

In closing, IBackup is a bit of a mess. The core service works well, but the documentation, pricing, and security leave a lot to be desired. The general cold shoulder for Mac OS, security-wise, makes me think IBackup/IDrive isn't really serious about supporting it.More about IBackup
