  • Implemented across the company

We use Lastpass as a way to generate secure passwords for all our shared utility accounts within the company. The ability to generate secure passwords and share them amongst departments without giving them access to actually view or copy the password provides a nice extra level of security on these shared accounts, and the auditing features in lastpass enterprise help us maintain individual accountability.

Pros : Great solution for shared accounts on external services, or for companies that have not implemented single sign on solutions yet. Being able to link a personal account to a company account while still keeping them separate is a nice touch

Cons : Getting employees within the company to use the application once it has been deployed. I've found the most effective way is to deploy it to an entire department, then update all department shared accounts with newly generated passwords.

    A requirement at our work

Thankfully, I found this software several years ago. I worked at a software company and we needed to be able to log in to several different test accounts across several different client websites for testing. Lastpass was able to do what the built-in browser management tools were not´?¢manage multiple passwords for the same site.

Pros : In addition to managing passwords, Lastpass is cross-browser and cross-platform. It offers to save login information as you type it in your browser, as well as offering to update when you've clearly updated a password. Some of the more powerful parts of LastPass are Form Filling (a huge time saver that allows for multiple profiles, and can include billing and payment info) and generating new passwords. Supports desktop password filling and mobile, too, using an extension (so useful).

Cons : UI used to be clunkier, but really improved a couple of years ago. Still not as pretty as 1Password (which I've used) and Dashlane (which I tried), but the pricing and cloud-based nature of the password vault puts it over the top for me, and now my team.

    Terrific

This platform is amazing. As a lover of all apps and tools, I have plenty of passwords that I need to memorize. Sure, at the beginning we all set our passwords to be the same/similar to all logins we have, but nowadays, we can't do that because of identity theft! I've never had a problem with LastPass. You just need to remember one password for all!

Pros : App integrations -chrome -windows desktop -ios -ipad

Cons : Their interface I wouldn't call user-friendly for most people. As a power-user, I don't really run into problems like that.

  • Reliable, cloud-based password management

    What do you like best?

These days, you've got to use a Password Manager of some type to avoid re-using passwords or generating "easy-to-guess" passwords. I chose LastPass specifically because I can create passwords on one computer and have them instantly available on other computers (eg desktop & laptop, work & home machines).

I also like the "Auto Fill Forms" feature that automatically enters my credit card details when making purchases (after prompting me again for my LastPass password).

I like the ability to generate one-time passwords for use in insecure environments (eg public computers).

    What do you dislike?

Sometimes the automatic form-filling feature enters my address details in the wrong fields, or it captures addresses that I don't want to re-use. But, it's easy for me to correct the data because LastPass highlights the auto-filled fields in yellow.

Recommendations to others considering the product

The major choice is whether to store passwords in the cloud, or on local storage (eg USB, Dropbox). LastPass makes it easier since you just need a browser plug-in, rather than having to move files around, but it comes down to your choice about where you'd like your sensitive data to reside.

It also appears that LastPass encrypts your data in such a way that they can't even recover it if you forget your master password.

What business problems are you solving? What benefits have you realized?

LastPass allows me to manage my site-specific passwords in a secure manner, yet makes them available to me when (and where) I need them. I try to get other people using LastPass, just to make it easier for them, too.

    What do you like best?

I like that I never have to remember any of my passwords, because LastPass keeps them all easy to access and auto-fills my login info for every site.

    What do you dislike?

I hate that my passwords for everything are all in one place. A scary thought to say the least.

  • Lastpass may be the best choice for users requiring a simple password manager for multiple computers and operating systems. There is no easier way to remember your passwords on multiple computers and operating systems than by using LastPass. Lastpass is a good solution for people who regularly move between multiple computers and operating systems.
