  • When you really need a backup, rely on CrashPlan.

CrashPlan Use Cases and Deployment ScopeWe use CrashPlan to backup end user documents and data across our entire organization. With the increasing popularity of utilizing cloud storage (Box, Dropbox) for most file storage, the importance of using CrashPlan is diminishing. However, it is still a critical fall back for our users who either have no adopted cloud storage or store files outside of folders that sync up to the cloud.

Pros : Silent, reliable CrashPlan agent handles all of the backups in the background without user interaction.Users have the ability to restore files on their own without contacting support.Easy to change the selection of files being backed up.

Cons : No way to automatically provision user accounts when new users join our organization. No way to allocate backup quotas for individual users or orgs within CrashPlan.CrashPlan application relies on Java.Admin console can be difficult to navigate in a large organization.

    CrashPlan is great

CrashPlan Use Cases and Deployment ScopeWe use CrashPlan as a primary backup for end user workstations across the entire company.

Pros : VersioningScheduled backupsSimple self-service restores

Cons : Admin console takes some getting used to with managing users.Took me a while to find the button to do file restores from the admin console.A nice feature would be the ability to select one of your alerts and create a support case about that alert with the click of a button.

  • Crashplan literally exceeds their stellar reputation in all aspects of their cloud storage service. The only thing holding them back from being the clear cut industry leader is that they do not offer file sharing or synching. Other than that, you will not find a better service provider.

  • CrashPlan is a solid product, offering strong features at a reasonable price. With good options for both free and subscribed users, its unlimited capacity and ease of use make it an accessible and appealing backup solution.

  • I really want to like CrashPlan, it has a feature set that should set it high above many of the other online backup services, but there is something about the software that turns me off. I even did something I rarely do, I asked my wife to look at the software to see if she could easily backup some files. Her immediate reaction was confusion about the number of options to backup the files. I did not even try to ask her to restore any. For experienced computer users backing up using CrashPlan might be a great choice, but for the average person needing an easy to use backup system to keep their photos, videos and files safe CrashPlan presents to many options.

  • CrashPlan is a good option for backing up your important files or entire computer, and it's nice to have the added options it provides. It's not perfect, and getting the hang of using the program can take some time, but it's worth checking out if you're in the market for new backup options.

  • CrashPlan provides many options for backing up your data: locally, on another computer, or in the cloud. In addition, you can choose to send different types of data to different locations with CrashPlan's Backup Sets.

If you're looking for complete control over where to backup your files to, at an affordable rate, CrashPlan is the ideal service. If you're looking for the simplest online backup service, this may not be the best solution for you.

  • All in all, Crashplan is versatile, inexpensive and provides a speedy backup service, that would be even better if UK businesses could subscribe direct.

  • CrashPlan offers unlimited online and local backups for a low monthly price, but suffers from slow restore speeds from the cloud. The prices for family plans are unbeatable.

  • With the CrashPlan Pro user interface, users are able to control backup settings and monitor their storage system with clear-language support. Being able to access data from any computer with a browser gives CrashPlan Pro versatility to those who travel or are otherwise not at their computer station. CrashPlan Pro supports Windows, Mac, Linux and Solaris giving users of all denominations the ability to protect and save important information. The software itself does not cost anything to use, which is another benefit to using CrashPlan Pro.
