  • I really like AVG AntiVirus Free 2015. It was easy to install and has all the features you'd expect from any antivirus program you'd pay for. It's completely free and can easily replace any antivirus program you have on your computer right now.

  • To sum it up, those looking for a fast, reliable and efficient antivirus solution may at least give AVG Antivirus Free a try. Its virus definitions can be kept up-to-date with AVG Anti-Virus Definitions. Those looking for enhanced malware protection can test and/or purchase AVG AntiVirus Professional or AVG Internet Security.

  • AVG Anti-Virus software is an average performer with well-considered features. It does not win in tests conducted at independent software testing labs. It maintains a database of known threats so that it can block them, and it uses cloud technology to quickly deploy defenses against zero-day threats almost as quickly as the hackers can hatch them. It understands how to protect you and warn you against internet attacks. And it protects you in social networking contexts. Support is excellent, and AVG goes the extra mile by providing live chat.

I have used AVG for my home / personal security for quite some time then when beginning my business, I wanted to maintain protection on my new devices. I purchased a Windows 10 laptop and a MacBook Pro. I decided to only install additional security on the Windows laptop. With AVG, I had subscribed to the theory of "if it ain't broke, don't fix it," but with a new computer and new business expenses, I thought it would behoove me to research and compare once again.

In reading many reviews and comparisons, much of my research led me to Avast as a potentially better solution. Having now compared both from separately, physically installing them on my computer, I have experienced performance differences that allow me to write a helpful review. AVG was great for security, but I always suspected its use of system resources might be higher than necessary. In the end result, my testing led me to switch to Avast so I am no longer an AVG user.

However, to its credit, it is a fantastic security product, but if you are looking to minimize system resource use, other options may satisfy your needs better.

    Pros :

    • AVG could scan my entire computer, a full scan, in a very reasonable amount of time.
    • I mentioned AVG was non-intrusive meaning it was not regularly asking me to do updates (as they were set to update automatically) and unless you use the free version, you will not regularly see promotions and ads encouraging you to go to a paid subscription which includes many benefits as is, especially for ensure your business assets or client data gets the maximum protection it hopefully deserves.

    Cons :

    • The only cons for me with AVG were boot time on startup and high use of system resources.
    • Truthfully, AVG was not hogging resources excessively, but my comparison led me to see a few seconds faster boot from other products as well as a lower percentage of system resources used for what I perceive to be the same level of security.

    There are a lot of options for antivirus software, and I have been using AVG AntiVirus confidently for many years. AVG provides various security software programs, so I would consider them a leader in this industry. Their AntiVirus Free software is on par with any other paid antivirus protection software. AVG's AntiVirus can either be set up to perform a whole computer scan or directed to specific files, directories, or drives.andnbsp;

    Pros :

    • The interface is very user-friendly. You can set up dates and times to scan your computer, review reports, see what is currently protected, and make adjustments easily.
    • I also like the fact that it runs in the background, and it can be set up to quarantine and remove malicious software without ever bothering the user through the proper setting.
    • The software could also be set up to update automatically without requesting permission from the user, keeping itself regularly up to date. It can also can websites and emails in real time, adding an additional layer of security.
    • I like the ability to specify directories and drives, to help reduce resources needed to perform the scan, although not my resources are consumed during this time anyway.
    • There are also many other products available through AVG to help increase your computer's protection and security.

    Cons :

    • The free version of AVG's AntiVirus software is riddled with ads and popups, which is ironic because it is designed to catch these very same types of software.
    • They also heavily promote their other products, but if all you want is the AntiVirus, this can become utterly annoying.
    • After downloading the software, it will also take over your web browser and make changes to the defaults, such as the homepage and search engine. The whole computer scan has been know to stall computers and force a restart, so I would recommend performing the scan late at night when you are not logged into your computer.
    • If you do schedule scans, and you are logged in or you computer is turned off, it will start a scan the moment you start Windows. This can be rather annoying and the only way to stop it is to manually go to the scan page with the program and stop it.

AVG is another of the most popular free antivirus, definitely one of the easiest to use and has a great recognition engine virus, malware or spyware. The user interface is really simple though I personally do not think it is very attractive (I do not like the big square like Windows 8 style), but it is very intuitive and greatly facilitates the user experience.

    Pros :

    • Check easily and independently infected files, running applications, Web browsing, e-mail (for both virus control both anti-spam filters), etc.
    • As well as other free antiviruses, it has versions for Windows, Android, and even Linux. The download is free for the free version and is available directly on the official website of AVG.
    • As usual, the first thing to do will be just installed an update of virus definitions and a full scan.
-Like all anti-virus, it allows you to perform a full scan (requires enough time) and a "custom" where you can choose a granular level what to check.
-It provides with the quarantine feature called Virus Vault, where we can decide what to do with potentially infected files.
    • As far as performance is not heavy at all, it does his duty without being too invasive, even giving a look at the various online test is always able to place themselves at the top.
    • AVG also makes available a significant amount of additional tools. Among these surely be appreciated is the function for safe navigation, for example, that contains a tool that examines the different links that are accessed for research possible threats.
    • An other function is the "Identity Protection" that provides additional protection against some types of malware that are created to steal passwords and other sensitive data.

    Cons :

    • As against, an advanced user can find it a little bit cumbersome as to facilitate.
    • The user base does not centralize the most of the functionality making some passages perhaps unnecessary.
    • Very annoying are the constant references to the paid version, navigating the various features will never be left aside the advice to go to the paid version.

AVG is now one of the biggest players in the antivirus market. This free antivirus is very well-known among people and is a dependable security that will not prove to be too intrusive as well. It will effectively combat all sorts of malware and be flexible enough to react to emerging threats. AVG uses multiple layers of protection to ensure your data is safe.

    Pros :

    • Excellent support is available by live chat or email 24 hours a day regardless of your location, but if you simply must use the telephone, it is not an option.
    • Some features included in the paid version are not worth the price, the free version seems to be a better deal here until the other paid components make more sense.
    • AVG has a free version doing a good job at protecting you against most threats. However most key features are locked under licenses and leave you no choice but to buy them to enjoy a decent protection.
    • More packages available would benefit the customer more.

    Cons :

    • AVG suite also includes some TuneUp tools that are really obsolete and ineffective.
    • There are many software editors on the market that allow you to clean up old or temporary files for free (namely CCleaner) - AVG is below average with these tasks.
    • AVG is very CPU intensive, and it is not rare that it sometimes uses over 90% of your available resources. This is a problem regardless of the specs of your machine, a good antivirus should have a minimal footprint.
    • There are too many different tools to protect a workstation. All these tools are confusing and should be consolidated into one simple interface.
    • Technical support is there but is not available via phone.
    • Other software on the market can do better for free.

AVG Antivirus is a software that started out great, and was probably the best among the free antivirus solutions when it was first released. However, AVG Antivirus started to lag behind its competitors over the years, while becoming more demanding on system resources each time a new version was released. Currently, AVG Antivirus is no longer capable of offering effective protection against malware: even with a deep system scan, the software fails to detect many threats which are detected by its competitors with real-time protection alone. I’ve had the experience of seeing AVG carry out a deep scan without detecting anything, and if a better solution is installed on the same computer it immediately detects threats. AVG Antivirus was a top free antivirus solution a couple years ago, but it failed to innovate and was surpassed by its competitors. Although it has a free version, the same can be said of superior alternatives such as Avira or Avast.

    Pros :

    • AVG Antivirus is free, although there are better antivirus solutions which are also free, and with more features.

    Cons :

    • AVG Antivirus is an outdated software solution: it lacks the capability to detect many current threats. Even if the most recent database is downloaded, plenty of viruses and other malware will not be detected by AVG.
    • The system footprint of AVG Antivirus can be very high. I have experience with cases where AVG Antivirus completely freezes the system, while achieving no effective protection. Sometimes it isn’t even possible to open the dashboard.
    • When carrying out a system scan, the computer becomes very slow and the results aren’t satisfactory anyway. Alternative free solutions can detect viruses that AVG misses, with real-time protection alone.
    • It is nearly impossible to install or run AVG Antivirus on a heavily infected computer. Some of its competitors, on the other hand, can be installed directly on even the most compromised systems and yield immediate results.

I have tried AVG AntiVirus on and off over the years, and found that it is severely lacking when compared to its main rivals. There have been a large amount of occasions where a scan is run on an infected computer, and only a small subset of the malware is actually discovered, while tools such as Malwarebytes and Microsoft Security Essentials would detect many more. This is also backed up by statistics, where AVG's malware detection rates trail behind the competition. Overall, it might be a decent free tool for some quick scans, however I would not trust it as a long-term security solution.

    Pros :

    • Does not hog resources, and runs relatively smoothly.
    • Free version is available.
    • Works well if user intentions are to just run a quick scan once in a while.

    Cons :

    • Detection is severely lacking, when compared to its main rivals. This is also backed up by statistics.
    • There are competing products such as Malwarebytes, which offer much better protection for your money.
    • The antimalware software which is already installed on Windows 8 and Windows 10 (ex Microsoft Security Essential) performs better in my experience. So why download AVG or purchase it?

AVG provides a complete suit for antivirus protection for your Computer, web, email and Firewall. It has various versions available which offer different levels of protection. What makes it different from others are the layers of protection it deploys to keep us safe from malwares. It matches each file to its database of known viruses, and this database is continuously updated. AVG also collects a lot of data through its users which makes its database the most updated one. It is also smart to make the scan quicker and do the scan in idle time so that lack of resources does not affect the productivity. The free version does provide most of the basic protection features. If anyone is looking for a basic protection for their computer, AVG is one of the best options available with a lot of advanced features are available for commercial versions.

Pros : The interface is simple to use and the welcome screen gives you a complete snapshot of your protection. It also offers an antivirus to protect your mobile devices. It also blocks ads which collect the personal information. The paid versions have other features as well like automatic scanning of file which are downloaded. It also provides a new feature which lets you surf and search Facebook safely. AVG for Android has an inbuilt anti-theft protection. This means if you ever lose your phone, you can know the location of it, lock it and wipe all your data from it. It also automatically locks your phone if someone replaces your sim card with a new one. It even checks the links exchanged over social networks for potential threats and also scans the search engine results to highlight the unsafe websites. The threats found at other user’s machines are immediately added to its database and almost updated in the virus definitions to all other users across the world in real time.

Cons : Popups to upgrade your protection level when you are using a free version is very annoying. Telephonic customer support is not available though email and chat support is quite good. The scheduled virus definition update failed most of the times and then need to be updated manually.

Does not remove viruses, it just acts like it does. This is a program that shady techs like, because it insure constant return business for them. They will have to come and remove the viruses AVG says it has removed, because it never removed it in the first place. Plus, no matter how hard you try to keep your computer clean, and watch sites you go to, you will have more viruses with this program than any other.

    Pros : Its free(?)

Cons : AVG hijacked my browser !! With the help of yahoo, avg web tune or whatever its called hijacked my browser. I don't trust this program anymore. I am uninstalling and looking for new virus protection.
