  • It's slow and missed some dangerous software, but Avast Pro Antivirus offers features most basic antivirus products lack, including a password manager and protection against website redirects.

    Pros :

    Cons :

  • Avast Pro Antivirus is excellent at detecting malware, accurate in its decisions about whether incoming traffic is friend or foe and sparing of system resources. It extends its protection to your home network, prevents hackers from hijacking your browser and updates any out-of-date applications that might leave you vulnerable. Customers enjoy 24/7 telephone access to technical support, a thing virtually unheard of among its competitors.

  • Avast Pro Antivirus 2015 includes an innovative scan for home router security problems, as well as a hardened browser for financial transactions and a number of other useful tools. Even so, you'll be better off selecting one of our Editors' Choice antivirus products.

Avast performs very well with decent virus removal and good real-time protection. For whatever reason getting both of these things right is a problem for most antivirus products.

The before run scan It's a good way to prevent most malware from launching in the first place. This is a very clever move by Avast. And it's one no other antivirus software we tested did as part of the clean-up action.

As for real-time protection, Avast did great here, too. With a fresh install of Windows and Avast Pro Antivirus on my PC, Avast instantly started deleting all the malware one by one before we could even open them. Also the malware I accidentally open was blocked before it could install.

Unlike the other vendors, Avast doesn't limit the use of its free product to personal use. I can use it at home, at work, wherever I like. Actually, the company even gives a free product aimed especially at business use, with the centralized management that IT departments prefer. So, your choice whether to use the paid or the free edition comes down to how much you value the extra features that you get by paying. For the average user free edition is just OK, but I personally recommend pro for experts. You'll get so much tools to work and protect all your PC's and networks.

    Pros :

    • Avast is very great for malware.
    • it makes a scan before running the OS, that's a must.
    • Scan network and router for security problems.
    • Scans for outdated software.
    • Boot-time scan.
    • Very good add-ons.
    • Protection against DNS hijacking.
    • Sandbox for running suspect programs.

    Cons :

    • Slow malware scan.
    • Some features like add-ons require separate purchase (avast should be able to detect phishing without the need of an extra add-on).
    • Password manager features limited.
    • Some hardened browser features did not work in testing.
    • Advanced features may prove daunting for average users.

When I started my own business just under a year ago, I purchased a new Windows 10 laptop and a MacBook Pro. I opted out of any security for the Mac, but I knew I wanted to have some type of antivirus or internet security package for my PC.

I had been using AVG on my personal computer for a long time but always felt like there had to be a better solution that allowed for a faster boot up or that used fewer system resources. AVG wasn't terrible, but it just left me suspicious that there was better. Well, new computers were the trigger for me to spend a little time researching the top security software brands and decide which was the best fit to protect my new business computer. I have always known Symantec products as system resource hogs despite the real or perceived benefit of their top-notch security and regular definition updates. I wanted something much lighter and my reading led me to Avast as the top competitor with AVG.

I was new to Avast so I tried the free version to explore its interface and get a feel for its efficiency. I was impressed with what I saw and I decided this was the way to go for me. I use Avast on my work computer and have since converted my personal computer as well.

    Pros :

    • I feel that the security Avast is sufficient. I have read no reports of it being any less susceptible to security threats than any other major player in the antivirus or internet security space.
    • I love that it runs considerably light weight and that all updates run automatically so I am not forced to do this manually or be prompted with updates.
    • Avast also scans for outdated software which is another neat way to keep everything current especially when some software updates are to address security flaws.

    Cons :

    • I have yet to really see any negatives with Avast. I'm sure some day if some kind of virus sneaked its way through, I would grow suspicious but how am I to know that the same would not have happened with AVG or the likes.
    • Security software is one of those few scenarios where it is performing its best when you don't even realize it's there.

The interface is really so simple to use, and have a few tools very interesting, like internet security, device security, antivirus, anti-spyware, and it is in progressive actualization it allows to detect new viruses and spyware.

    Pros :

    • Very easy to use the interface of the program.
    • Protect the computer and the network for any threats.
    • Progressive actualization of the antivirus database.
    • Contain a lot of tools of security.

    Cons :

    • It doesn't have a promotion for the full software or protection to people with few entrance of money and outside the USA.
    • The interface sometimes is slow, it should be a little faster.

Avast Pro Antivirus is one of the several popular antivirus programs for Windows. Its popularity is due to the fact that the free version has been well marketed and used by many. It offers a good amount of security features and has a particular focus devolved to remote access.

    Pros :

    • You will immediately notice how "simple user-oriented", because the interface is quite attractive and has the key features highlighted on the left.
    • At first glance it is clearly shown the status of the PC so that even a basic user can intervene easily if your PC is infected is if you do not perform any control for some time.
    • Like all anti-virus software, it provides a detailed scan of checking for viruses

      Cons :

      • Cost is not the best, it is about 35 € a year and adding a few euro more, you can have additional components (e.g., firewalls).
      • Avast shows to different tabs available, a wholly dedicated to the store, for a PRO product is not very professional to have a significant amount of additional tools, all for a fee.
      • It is not light, overloads the system enough especially if you use a non-high-performance computer, or a low-end notebook.
      • In terms of effectiveness, it is definitely a good product but also looking at the different online test is never the best, then a good product but for a fee, and that does not excel at anything in particular.

Avast is a free antivirus which is quite better than various others in terms of virus cleansing. Avast just simply beat them out in comparison. It is very slow to detect real-time virus, so slow that the virus could have attacked before it being detected, so this leaves a huge drawback for avast. Although it does an excellent job when we scan and clean/quarantine/delete any virus. Avast's UI is awful, and it becomes hard to distinguish the free features from the paid. It was quite hectic for me to make it stop detecting a false virus and I personally had the need to take a tutorial from the internet.

    Pros :

    • Excellent scanning and removal of Virus.

    Cons :

    • Real-time detection is slow.
    • Bad GUI.

Avast Pro is a reasonably good antivirus solution, better than many alternatives such as AVG or Norton. In my personal experience, there are alternatives which offer better virus detection capabilities while having a lower footprint on system resources, although there are many users who have had a satisfactory experience with Avast. Favorable features about Avast are that the free version is better than many paid antivirus alternatives, and its footprint on system resources is moderate to low. The software is also very independent, requiring little or no user intervention. On the other hand, the voice notifications and frequent ads may bother some users. With respect to performance, Avast offers reasonably good results in reactive detection and average results in proactive detection of viruses and malware. The software tends to interfere with USB devices, and in that case it is simpler to temporarily disable the antivirus than trying to configure it for compatibility with the device in question.

    Pros :

    • The free version is quite good compared with paid alternatives.
    • Low footprint on system resources most of the time.
    • Effective and quick reactive virus detection. Avast Pro acts immediately when a threat is detected.
    • The program is very intuitive and easy to learn. This makes it attractive for a broader market, which is probably one the best features of Avast.
    • The 24/7 phone support is an excellent complement.
    • Avast is a very independent antivirus solution, it keeps itself up to date and running without demanding frequent user intervention.

    Cons :

    • Some users may be bothered by the voice notifications.
    • Occasional spikes on system footprint.
    • Plenty of ads, can become intrusive at times.
    • The dashboard isn’t very clear with respect to free and paid features. The user may realize a particular feature is paid until it is clicked.
    • Although reactive threat detection is a strong point, proactive detection is weak. Avast detects and eliminates many threats but isn’t very capable of stopping them before they act.

Avast is a free anti-virus software. It beats out the competition for a couple paid ones, most notably Norton and McAfee. It is very easy to use and can be set to have periodic scans. It does all the things a normal antivirus would do but does it for no cost. It covers many sides. While it has the normal anti-virus protection, it also allows for more protected web-surfing, giving another layer of protection for those that want or need it. It compares very well to other anti-virus software I have used. It does make its presence known, so you don't forget to run it and scan and also keeps its promise by not letting viruses touch your system and files.

    Pros :

Avast is free. Which is huge. Anti-virus software can be relatively expensive. $40-$60 dollars adds up when you count renewing subscriptions, so having none of that saves money and time. The anti-virus program itself is easy to use and has a nice looking UI. Nothing too fancy but it gets the job done while looking clean and pretty. It doesn't seem to get too many false positives if anything and for my experience has caught the few viruses I have picked up along the way. The program also has reminders which remind you to make sure you scan and update settings or the program itself. This is useful as people can be forgetful and forget to do those essential things here and there.

    Cons :

It is a bit of bloatware. When the web protection is installed as well this increases. Avast adds extra icons stating its risk assessment of sites and small pop-ups. It is a bit annoying but livable. The reminders the program gives out sometimes are given too much though. They can get repetitive or downright annoying. Though, are manageable and can be managed it is still a flaw I see in the system.

I used the Avast Pro application until recently. I never had any issues with botnets, malware (touch wood) or viruses, so in that respect, it did its job. As a technology professional however, I tend to be more cautious about where I go on the internet, what I download, or emails or files I open. It is hard to tell how many threats I have encountered which Avast rescued me from. I found the Avast sales tactics on their products and services quite aggressive once I downloaded their free app. I have used a number of apps like Norton 360 and McAfee in the past, and found Avast to be, well, kind of annoying to be honest. More about that in the con section. Avast does have a decent variety of mobile and desktops apps, and I never had to have any viruses or malware removed from my PC. If you are looking for a reliable AV application which will keep you safe, and won't likely be needing any tech support along the way, Avast is a good choice. There's no bloatware installed (to my recollection) and won't "fight" you if you uninstall it like some other AV apps in the industry. The SafeZone browser protection and Sandbox isolated app scanning area are valuable resources for the knowledgeable tech whiz, but would likely go unused by the average consumer.

Pros : - Comprehensive dashboard view of security activities, easy to make a quick scan of your PC - Strong set of mobile apps, including WiFi security, VPN and battery optimizer - Not as resource intensive as other AV apps in the marketplace such as Norton 360 - When configured properly, very unobtrusive, though you have to turn off the voice alerts - Priced reasonably at $39.95 for Anti-Virus Pro, other versions exist including a FIrewall and - Effective, friendly customer support..until they find an opportunity to sell you more - Very thorough event reporting on just about every file/website/byte the app scans.

Cons : - Aggressive sales tactics both in the app and on the phone with support. The menus offer you functions which you think will be included, but there's often an upgrade fee to Premium. I was having an issue with my PC and the support rep I called was quite aggressive at offering their Premium Support services to tune my computer and their rates were quite high for remote support. - Voice alerts of updates at the beginning were really annoying...It felt like the app was justifying its existence - Repetitive requests to scan Wi-Fi network, aggressive take over of turning on WiFi when I don't necessarily want it on. The app can be as aggressive as the sales reps - I've personally never had to remove any viruses, and I tend to be fairly cautious as to what I download and where I surf to. I have heard using Avast for removal can be difficult and expensive if you want to hire their pros, so you are likely better hiring a local tech professional. Many of the local techs I know swear by Avast compared to other apps, which is why I started using it in the first place. I found Norton 360 to be very resource intensive for example.
