These days, the hard drive are getting bigger and bigger, often in combination with an SSD and/or an external drive. You may use many Software to Sync and Backup all your data, but, at the end of the day, you don’t want to reinstall your computer, it is too time-consuming. Having a good view of your hard drives health is very important, because you should see sign before the disk die. This is why S.M.A.R.T interface exist (Self-Monitoring Analysis and Reporting Technology). But what do you do with the S.M.A.R.T alerts? Do you monitor your event logs? If you are like me, you only review your event logs when you have problems, and it’s too late. Acronis, is a company, known for their True Image backup software, developed a tool to monitor those counters. This is Acronis Drive Monitor. Note that True Image is worth a try. You can configure the tool to send E-Mail notification when alerts pop, maybe to alert yourself, or maybe to alert your geek family member or neighbor that will take care of it. Sometimes, the popups pop when my kids are playing on the computer, and I will never see it. Thanks to Acronis for emailing me. You can also receive reports of your disk health, but in my cause, too many alerts mean rules creation and lose of information. There is a temperature monitor of the disk (for the supported disks) that will warn when the temperature is too high, but the only times it happened to me, I’ve ignored it since I was working and didn’t want to “stop” doing what I was doing. I disabled those alerts. You can make a choice which disks you want to monitor, but I my opinion… all disks matter. There is a backup monitoring embedded in the tool, a way to say “Buy Acronis True Image please”.
It's a great security system if you don't mind about paying for software. For those who want security for their computers, it'll be an excellent choice I can assure you that, the difference between ESET and others is big, it's solid in almost all the ways.In the other hand if you don't want to pay for it there are some of the good alternatives like Avast, which is amazing too and have a free version. You can Give this software a try for one month and if you like it, you can buy the full version.I think that it's a good antivirus and system, I haven't noticed big problems on my computer since I'm using it.
Some things I like about Eset:
If there is a website that is being recognized as a threat and you want to open it anyway, you can add it to the exception list.
In the race of the best Anti-Virus protection, you need to be very careful. There is many aspect that needs to be evaluated; virus detection, performance impact, report, and management feature list, etc. I had to evaluate many different Anti-Virus during the last year, and I have to admit our final choice is not VIPRE, sorry. We had very specifics requirement; No impact on performance, multi-platform (Windows/Mac/Linux), server-side exceptions and client-side exceptions. After testing more than 25 different antiviruses, I can tell it is very hard to find. I’ve also tested VIPRE Internet Security 2016 for Home to find a fit for my home computers, where the requirements are very different. First, the Security suite come with a lot of advanced features, like Firewall, Website Blocker, Edge Protection (zero-day threats), Anti-Malware, Social Watch, Search Guard, Auto Patch, Anti-Rootkit, Email Virus Protection, Spam Filter, Anti-Intrusion, etc! Very impressive for 50$ (based on shop.vipreantivirus.com) for a year, or 100$ for Lifetime. The UI is very clean, and the configuration come by default with the standard scanning schedule, Full scan once a week, Quick the other days. You don’t want to scan too much since it is resource intensive and unnecessary, you already “real-time-monitor”. The Quick scan will scan the most important files only. The Quick scan used 12% of my CPU and 100 MB of ram, during 11 minutes. That's a lot more than competitors, scanning 10x more files. I have 4 processes running: the Anti-Malware Service, the SBAMTray Application, the Plug-in Manager Service and the WebProxy.exe. When you open the UI, you will also have VIPREUI.exe. There is a “Catch Up Scan” option if a scheduled scan is missed, but they will only do a Quick Scan. You may miss all your full. The “Second Layer Scan” will run a full scan in case a risk is detected using a Quick Scan. I like the Battery Saver mode, to skip scans when on battery. The Email Filter (phishing, virus, spam) works with Outlook or POP3/SMTP. It won’t scan if you are using Gmail in IMAP. Updates are checked every 30 minutes by default, but can be customized. There is no setting to skip update on slow network (to save bandwidth), but the signature files are probably small.

Acronis Drive Monitor is for anyone who needs a little help in predicting when an internal or external drive might go bad. Since the vast majority of users tend to forget that drives do go bad eventually, Drive Monitor will either email or display an alert when certain conditions have been met. It's easy to install, easy to set up, and easy to use, so nearly any level of experience can take advantage of this monitor.More about Acronis Drive Monitor

ESET is in our review of best internet security software because of its comprehensive antivirus protection, antiphishing and additional security feature set. It performs well in performance tests by independent test labs, although it doesn’t quite match the results of the top 10 internet security suites. In addition to being AV-Test Certified, this internet security software has also passed muster at Virus Bulletin 100, ICSA Labs and West Coast Labs Checkpoint.More about ESET Smart Security

On one hand, we like that the overall look of VIPRE has had few changes from one year to the next. It's easy to become familiar with the software without having to hunt for things from one year to the next. Considering all these points, VIPRE Antivirus 2015 passes our tests with flying colors. It's not perfect, but no antivirus software is.More about VIPRE

VIPRE Internet Security 2014 combines a decent antivirus, a simple, accurate spam filter, and a disappointing firewall; it's all over the map. You'll do better with a suite whose components are uniformly strong.More about VIPRE
