About Acronis Drive Monitor

Acronis Drive Monitor is a free, downloadable software application developed by Acronis to monitor server, workstation and PC hard disk drives. We all depend on instant access to data stored on our hard drives - buried inside PC laptops, workstations and servers - but those disks are vulnerable to severe failures that can cause you to lose business and personal data.

Acronis Drive Monitor alerts you to problems that may indicate an imminent failure so you can be prepared to handle it without data loss. Acronis Drive Monitor gives users extra time to react in order to save data contained on disk devices and to arrange for their replacements.

When Acronis Drive Monitor sees a problem, it immediately generates an email or onscreen alert describing the specific finding. Context-sensitive help explains what the alerts mean. Weekly reports summarize the electromechanical health of all the disks under Acronis Drive Monitor management.

  • All things considered, Acronis Drive Monitor gives you a hand whenever you need to obtain information about the health status of the hard disk. The best thing about this tool is its overall simplicity that helps even less experienced users read the S.M.A.R.T. attributes with minimum effort.

  • Acronis Drive Monitor is for anyone who needs a little help in predicting when an internal or external drive might go bad. Since the vast majority of users tend to forget that drives do go bad eventually, Drive Monitor will either email or display an alert when certain conditions have been met. It's easy to install, easy to set up, and easy to use, so nearly any level of experience can take advantage of this monitor.

  • Hard disks life may seem a random exotic estimation for some users, but there are applications that monitor disks health, warning users about the problems that might appear. Acronis Drive Monitor is such an application; it permanently scans the disks and lets you know about any issues that may result in a hard disk failure in an easy way.

These days, the hard drive are getting bigger and bigger, often in combination with an SSD and/or an external drive. You may use many Software to Sync and Backup all your data, but, at the end of the day, you don’t want to reinstall your computer, it is too time-consuming. Having a good view of your hard drives health is very important, because you should see sign before the disk die. This is why S.M.A.R.T interface exist (Self-Monitoring Analysis and Reporting Technology). But what do you do with the S.M.A.R.T alerts? Do you monitor your event logs? If you are like me, you only review your event logs when you have problems, and it’s too late. Acronis, is a company, known for their True Image backup software, developed a tool to monitor those counters. This is Acronis Drive Monitor. Note that True Image is worth a try. You can configure the tool to send E-Mail notification when alerts pop, maybe to alert yourself, or maybe to alert your geek family member or neighbor that will take care of it. Sometimes, the popups pop when my kids are playing on the computer, and I will never see it. Thanks to Acronis for emailing me. You can also receive reports of your disk health, but in my cause, too many alerts mean rules creation and lose of information. There is a temperature monitor of the disk (for the supported disks) that will warn when the temperature is too high, but the only times it happened to me, I’ve ignored it since I was working and didn’t want to “stop” doing what I was doing. I disabled those alerts. You can make a choice which disks you want to monitor, but I my opinion… all disks matter. There is a backup monitoring embedded in the tool, a way to say “Buy Acronis True Image please”.

    Pros :

    • Good view of the health of all disks.
    • Alerts can be sent by email.

    Cons :

    • The UI is large, with a strange feel and look, when it’s only a monitoring tools.
    • No actions are recommended, don’t know what to do with my drive.
