Prestashop is absolutely a great solution if you want to create an online store or start on eCommerce, I've used it a few times for some stores, and it's easy to implement and use. It has a bunch of customizable options, and you don't need a deep understanding of programming or development to use it which is great. You can manage your templates and almost every important section of the platform, but it's limited if you are not planning to pay for a good template.
Here a couple of things that I think Prestashop is doing well:
Somethings I didn't like about Prestashop when I used it:

ShopSeen is for anyone who really loves to shop. Not only will you be able to share your finds with your friends, but you can browse through the products uploaded near you and find out about new store events happening in your area.More about Shopseen

Pinnacle Cart is a good option if you want to be able to sell unlimited products, though keep in mind that you'll still be limited by your disk space and traffic allowance. So in terms of pricing, Pinnacle Cart looks less expensive than it is, which did reduce our score a little bit. We were very satisfied with the other features however, especially marketing features for up-selling.More about Pinnacle Cart

PrestaShop is a platform that is overall cheap and extremely flexible IF you have the skills to manage it. After reviewing the PrestaShop platform, we believe it should be a top contender in your comparison and analysis of the best ecommerce platforms only if you have a good understanding of programming knowledge and skills.More about PrestaShop

I've had the WORST experience using this platform. It seems as if they have dramatically over-promised and are unable to deliver. The problems range from but are not limited to: -duplicating items on storefronts -unable to delete incorrect photos (you will delete them, but they will not remove making your listings appear disastrous for unknown periods of time until you can spend hours going through and correcting them another date) -photos disappearing from listings both on their site but also on your webpage or storefront. This causes a very sloppy presentation on Shopify and other resell sites -"copy last" features draw from several items ago, rendering this action unuseable -does not allow calculated shipping via Etsy (BIG Problem) -does not automatically save input- you will list several items before learning this the hard way -does not communicate with Amazon -"List Multiple" option says it's updating in the background while it's actually in the Bahamas somewhere buying pina coladas with the $80/month you spent on this platform I have been contacting them through their "Communication" link that appears to be a chat link, but no one ever responds. I was so upset initially that I did receive one singulare "We're working on it" email that neglected to address ANY of the actual issues I've had with this program. I have wasted hours of both my time and my Assistant's time trying to resolve to no avail. The worst part is that no one will even respond to my multiple requests for help. To say that this is a disappointment is a serious understatement. It has tripled my workload and charged excessively to do so. All and all: VERY POOR FORM.More about Shopseen

I have three stores now with Prestashop, which I have been using for over six years. I would say that the older versions worked perfectly well and I had no problems. I would have given 5 stars in all areas. (I am talking version 184.108.40.206 or thereabouts) Unwittingly "upgrading" to the latest versions, I'm now on 220.127.116.11, has rendered Prestashop almost unworkable. It only works now for me thanks to the brilliant paid add-on Store Manager. My two sites with fewer products - 20 and 1200 respectively, work fine still. My main site, which is my main source of income has 4,500 products. I cannot edit or save products (which is where Store Manager comes in). The search indexing does not work. CSV product import will not work. Database backups always time out. There are frequent errors with Payment gateways. Every recommended update usually causes new problems. All this despite the fact that I am using the default template and have made no code changes. Support is absolutely zero. My problems have been well discussed on the forums for over two years and are common. The programmers do nothing. I am not a programmer. I have spent over $2000 on programming help over the last two years just to keep my site running - and Prestashop is supposed to be "Open Source" and free. I would highly recommend Prestashop if you have few products, but I would say that if you start to go over 2000 then in my experience it simply does not work. The programmers are too busy making add ons which they make money on, than getting the basic shell to work. Transferring to another cart now would be a nightmare, largely because of the huge number of product photos, I think about 30,000 now.More about PrestaShop
