  • Great app if you are a fan of metrics!! As any of these applications it requires certain discipline... but the way it's design makes it very easy to use and so more chances that you register everything. If you do so,... you will be amaze when being able to analyze how you use your time.

Pros : Very easy to use Good reports

Cons : Need to think before how to organize your projects to get the information they way you need it

  • The most important part of a time tracking app is that it helps you see where your team's time goes, without taking up any more of your time. Toggl does that, with an app that's easier to use than an email app. Put it to use in your team, and you'll never have to wonder if you're billing the correct number of hours again.

  • If you’re an individual looking for a totally free, yet simple and effective time tracking app, there’s no reason why you shouldn’t give Toggl a try.

With things like multiple projects and clients, Toggl is clearly targeting big teams but I don’t see why you can’t use it for your personal use.

Over the years, Toggl has become an integral part in tracking my time allocation both for internal projects, as well as for projects for external clients. It has a very easy to use web app (which I primarily use), mobile app, and desktop app (the desktop app leaves a little to be desired in my opinion). I can easily track what I'm working on and tie it back to projects and clients. Reports are elegant and simple to pull, and give me a fast and easy way to show a client a summary of the items they were billed hours for, and how much time was spent on each particular item. For teams, you can even bring the team together in a dashboard and use that to see how time allocation is going against what you estimated time allocation would be. Teams have some other nice features like being able to lock entries for the team, audit any suspicious looking entries, etc. that give the app a good manager level set of functions.

Although I don't often use this feature, I can also input billable amounts and see how much I've earned on a project based on the time spent. Toggl's integrations with some other business applications, like Asana, then allow me to tie time tracking back into the apps where my actual project planning takes place.

Although I primarily use the web app, the mobile app is also great when I'm in situations where I need to start a time log but don't necessarily have my laptop with me or powered on. It's also handy to pull up quick summary reports if I'm on site talking with a client and need to discuss where we stand on certain elements of the project.

Toggl is a simple app, but a powerful one at the same time, and there's still so much it can do that I haven't even scratched the surface of in my many years using it. Since they have different tiers of licensing, there's also a lot it can do that I'm not paying for either.

    Pros :

    • Web, mobile and desktop apps.
    • Various tiers of licensing (starting with a free tier) that are sure to make it a fit in different size organizations.
    • Fantastic reporting.
    • Great team features.
    • Handles estimates and billable rates to bring extra (but relevant) details into your reporting (i.e. it's a little more than just a time clock).
    • Great support whenever I've had questions in the past.
    • Desktop app even supports Linux!

    Cons :

    • The Windows desktop app left something to be desired last time I used it.
    • It had been really small at one time, but then the design took an approach that made it more "mobile" oriented and it took up much more space on my screen.
    • I like being able to make the time tracker really small and stick it in the corner of my screen, but the latest design it had when I stopped using it definitely didn't permit that.

Super simple to use. I'm impressed by how simple it is to fix mistakes- like not tracking something or adding it to the wrong project. Overall, the system is intuitive and simple to use, plus the badges are fun.

    Pros :

    • Easy to edit entries.
    • Fun color coding for projects.
    • Mobile and desktop apps.
    • Badges!

    Cons :

    • None yet.

Toggl does it just what you need for time tracking without flooding the UI with unnecessary features. They seem to hide things and show things at the right time.

    Pros :

    • The biggest pro is the fact that I can start a timer from any of the apps or even from within Todoist using the Chrome plugin then stop it from any app.
    • I really love the chrome plugin too.
    • I use that heavily from within todoist and google docs.
    • The reports are great as well.

    Cons :

    • Sometimes if I leave a timer running it asks me if I want to discard the idle time. This is really nice feature but doesn't seem to work for me.
    • There doesn't seem to be any reporting across workspaces.
    • Each workspace is a complete silo.

I love user experience stuff - press start, then add, simultaneous work desktop/mobile and all the small features. My initial goal was measuring where my hours go and check if priorities are in their places. Now I got used to Toggl and just track all my workday to understand dynamics, avoid procrastination and transparently demonstrate my time investments into projects and products.

    Pros :

    • Smooth experience.
    • Cross-platform applications.
    • Simplicity.

    Cons :

    • Mac OSX app - too clumsy.
    • Removed, as web app works just fine.

I love using the Toggl software to keep track of how I am spending my days. I use it very frequently and find it to be very easy to use.

    Pros :

    • Very easy to use.
    • The toggle popups helps me to remember to clock my time.
    • Integrating the button into Chrome has helped me to see how much I am spending on email and how much time I am working on various documents in my drive.
    • The reports are easy to read and manage. I also love how all things can be edited by going to the actual Toggle website.

    Cons :

    • So far so good :)

Toggl helps me see the reality when I think “this will take me a little moment to complete,” then you see the amount of hours and understand the importance of time management. I work in a creative environment, and we tend to think that stuff can be done faster than it is in reality, and that’s the thing I love about Toggl, it keeps me grounded. And now that they have this “Toggl button”, a Google Chrome extension, I can track my time in almost any website around the web. Well, not every site is integrated, but you can select the text and right-click to reveal the “start timer with description,” then you will do exactly that, start the timer from anywhere in the web using that words. And that is where the fun begins.

If you go to your Toggl page, in the Timer section you will see the description entered. On the right, you will be able to create a project and put that project under a client making it easy for you to say, “Hey John, I spent 5 hours working with project A and 3 with project B, so I’ve worked 8 hours with you as a client.” You can use tags too, but I confess I don’t use them at all. Scrolling down, you can see all the things you have been working on in the past days giving you a clear picture of how you are using your work time. Then at the top is the most useful part when it comes to really see how things were going, the reports.

You can see a summary of this week, this month, year or a custom period and filter it by project, client, etc. and even export it as a CSV or PDF. All this is available in a free account; pretty handy if you are freelancing alone (no team) and/or just want to see how much time are you spending on different activities. If you want more, you can upgrade, but for now this is working for me.

    Pros :

    • The Toggl button extension makes it easy to start tracking time all over the web.
    • Reports are as detailed as I need.

    Cons :

    • Sometimes I stop the timer on the web, and the mobile app keeps it running, that’s something to fix.
