We have been using Target Process for over 5 years this tool has become valuable to us. As we are an agile company using TP is the best solutions for us. The production team would be lost without this tool.andnbsp; It's so easy to use and the whole company has embraced the tool. TP is so adaptable, we are able to add our own iterations and release plans. We also appreciate the fact that you can add different people to different projects, then people only see the project they are working on.The site is very easy to navigate around, TP often releases new features and enhancements to the site, sometimes it can be hard to move the team over to the new features, however once you have a couple of board they can usually persuade the rest to follow. We like the fact that we can interact with our customers on the site, and lock down areas of the site too.

Pros :

  • We have found the support team extremely helpful, they are quick to respond and have always provided a solution to any issues or questions we have for them.
  • Target process is very easy to use, new members of staff have found the system easy to use, they are able to quickly pick how the system works.
  • The software is used across all of our teams, the different departments can interact and respond via this system and all actions are logged along the way.

Cons :

  • There are some many new features being released so we find it hard to keep up with these.
  • We also had issues with browsers being updated so we tend to use either Chrome and Firefox as these seem to be the ones that are updated first.
  • The cost is very expensive to us as a company it would be good to be able to buy a group of licences rather than having to pay for the individual licences.

In the industry of project management and productivity tools, there are a huge amount of apps and services which all claim to do the same thing. While Asana is more oriented towards project management, it can also be used for productivity management too. It is a cloud-based web application which allows users to add tasks and assign them to team members, essentially managing a team and project. Out of all the software which I have tried in this area, Asana is truly one of the best. First of all, unlike other cloud-based web applications which usually limit the functionality of their free versions, most of Asana's main features are available within the free version. The main limitation is in the amount of users, which is quite a generous amount. In fact, the free version does not impose a limit on the amount of tasks which can be added, unlike other productivity software. This makes Asana perfect for small companies or teams. On the same point, Asana has decent integration with Harvest, so that tasks are automatically timed and added to the respective user's Harvest account. This is also ideal for freelancers, since the amount of hours can be automatically included in Harvest invoices. In terms of functionality, it is very quick and easy to add a new task and assign to a team member, which allows users to spend more time focusing on project management, rather than the tool itself. It is also possible to upload attachments of various media types to a project, similar to how Evernote handles media within notes. Users have access to a dashboard which uses charts and visual aids to indicate the progress of certain tasks and projects. This is excellent for measuring productivity of different team members and provides valuable information for project management. Furthermore, when assigning a task to a team member, it is possible to specify a deadline and track their progress. While Asana has a huge amount of features, users must dedicate some time to getting used to its layout and functionality. It does not have a steep learning curve, however it takes time to understand which features are required and how to use them. Another disadvantage of Asana is that users must have internet access to manipulate and view tasks and projects, since Asana is a web-based service.

Pros :

  • Unlike other cloud-based web applications which usually limit the functionality of their free versions, most of Asana's main features are available within the free version.
  • It is possible to upload media and other attachments to projects.
  • There is integration with Harvest so that tasks are automatically timed and added to the respective user's Harvest account.
  • It is very quick and easy to add a new task and assign to a team member.
  • The free version does not impose a limit on the amount of tasks which can be added, unlike other productivity software.
  • Users have access to a dashboard which uses charts and visual aids to indicate the progress of certain tasks and projects.

Cons :

  • Asana does not have much offline functionality, so users are dependent on an Internet connection if they would like to view, amend and add tasks.
  • Due to Asana's large feature set, users must dedicate some time to getting used to it.

In the tech community, Pivotal Tracker is a standard tool for coordinating teams on the same programming project. It divides tasks into "Epics" (large projects) and "Stories" (smaller tasks) and shows the state of each project and task - percent completed by project, and whether tasks are done / soon to be done / on ice. andnbsp;Pivotal Tracker is a good, solid tool for a team to use and one that I have chosen for some of my own projects. It is used by many other teams outside Pivotal Labs, the consulting company that originally created it, and is the standard tool used at Pivotal Labs.

Pros :

  • Pivotal Tracker automatically measures the work pace of individuals and teams. This is a very nice feature to have, as it really helps the team estimate how much it can get done over the course of a given week or another time period.
  • Then, Pivotal Tracker can automatically assign tasks within the projects to team members based on how quickly they are shown to work. andnbsp;Pivotal Tracker is also a good product for encouraging team members to take their own tasks - all the tasks are shown on a board and team members can auto-assign tasks, or be assigned tasks by any other team member.

Cons :

  • One disadvantage is that Pivotal Tracker locks teams into a Kanban-oriented style of project management. Not all teams choose to visualize their projects in this way.
  • I have worked with a number of teams that used other methods for project management, and the Kanban style can at times be a distraction for more top-down teams. andnbsp;
  • Pivotal Tracker also has a noticeable learning curve to be used properly, especially for people who have not worked with this style of project organization before. Specifically, the "Stories", "Epics" and the settings within them are not the most intuitive names and the controls are not the easiest to use.
