  • All in all, Producteev will greatly streamline the way your team works on projects together and will surely, if not completely, eliminate misunderstandings and failures to meet deadlines.

  • Producteev definitely falls short as a practical project management tool. That said, if basic task management is what you’re looking for – if all you need to do is to keep emails to a minimum, compile files and conversations in a practical manner, and make sure your employees are on the same page – then I recommend Producteev. You can’t do better than a free, lifelong subscription, and it is very valuable to have access to unlimited numbers of projects and participants.
    Producteev has its faults, but in general it is a good task management tool: simple, straightforward, and user-friendly. It’s not fancy and it can’t do much, but small businesses and start-ups would be hard pressed to find a similar, completely free tool that functions as well as Producteev does.

  • Easy and simple task manager but I wouldn't use it as a project management tool.

    Pros : Easy to use interface, great clarity into tasks and projects.

    Cons : No calendar or Gantt chart view. Not able to manage subtasks by assigning them to separate owners from the task owner. Sub-tasks are only one level deep.

    Producteev is a great free option for synching schedules and to-do lists in my small office. It allows us to keep track of what's getting done, and who's doing it. At the outset of a project, it makes projecting completion timelines easy, and the data can be exported to a CSV for integration and further use outside of the Producteev ecosystem. A full suite of apps allow you to take your project management from your phone, tablet or computer in an environment tailored for your device. Sign up is simple enough — and Producteev offers several tiers dependent on an organization’s usage scenario. The free level allows all basic functionality — with a paid tier that allows further customization as well as Outlook integration for Windows users. Once you’ve registered organizations, you can invite members of your team to get connected. Once they’re registered, each user can choose which client in Producteev’s suite works best for them. In-browser, Mac OS X, Windows, iOS and Android — Productive hasn’t left any users or their favorite devices excluded. Once everyone’s setup, Producteev shines for project management. I find it interesting Productive treats all tasks similar to how other applications treat ‘events.’ You can visualize your tasks in a list view with several useful options for restacking — by date, by delegated task assignee, by task owner, alphabetically, etc. One of the great recent additions is calendar view, which takes all the tasks and puts them in a month calendar view. Useful for visualizing your week ahead. Tasks can be delegated to different team members, and organized using tags. Tags are color coded, which aids visualization — and you can browse tasks within a given tag — phone calls, for instance — so you can knock them out at once. My team has found Producteev especially useful for project scheduling. It’s allowed us to quickly create and edit schedules that we can export to a spreadsheet and share with our clients. My only issue is I wish it had better integration with Google Calendar, or perhaps grew its footprint in some key ways that perhaps would allow it to do away with Google Calendar completely. One idea is to allow external invitees for appointments. Seems like it would help them introduce new people to their product.

    Producteev is probably the easiest team management app on the market today. Though "easiest" doesn't always mean best, Producteev ranks as 3rd on my personal list of project management tools. The balance of simplicity and functionality is near perfect, making the app every linear and learning curve extremely feasible. All in all, it's the one app on the market that BOTH the digital native and the "close to retirement" folks in the office can use. But if you're looking to run an entire company on this platform (>100 employees), look elsewhere.

    Pros :

    • VERY STRAIGHTFORWARD - The app architecture and project hierarchy are very straightforward: It's set up by Network -> Project -> Task -> Subtask. I use "Network" as the companies I'm involved with, "Project" for the different undertakings I have within those companies, and tasks and subtasks is should be self-explanatory.
    • FILTER TABS - One of the most powerful features of the Producteev system is its default filters. These include Active / Completed / Due today / Late / All / Starred, as well as a drop-down menu of 7 more which include "Due this week" and "Assigned to me". These features make digging for (finding) tasks extremely simple. Most other project management apps rely on the user to use labels or tags (which Producteev also supports), but they also offer you - as mentioned above - plethora of ways to categorize tasks without making you do the intricate tagging work.

    Cons :

    • NON-ASSIGNABLE SUBTASKS - This is a "make it or break it" feature that Producteev simply does not provide. Here's a simple illustration: your Network is "Company A", your Project is "Oktoberfest", and your Task is "Set up ticket booths". In the "Set up ticket booths" tasks, you have subtasks that include "main entrance booth", "rear entrance booth", "will call booth", "west gate booth", etc. You're able to assign the task "Set up ticket booths" to multiple people, but there's no option to assign the subtask (different booth locations) to specific people. This requires the whole ticket booth team to figure it out on their own, which may very well defeat the purpose of a task management app.
    • NO BIRD'S EYE VIEW - The lack of subtask assigning might force you to shift up the hierarchy for logistical purposes. In other words, your "network" wouldn't be your whole company, but rather a department of your company. In that case, basically you would want to be able to share different projects between departments (that is to say between your networks on Producteev). This is not possible, as networks on Producteev are designed to be completely cut off from each other. This is probably due to the big importance of overlap security. You don't want to be sharing extremely sensitive projects with a completely unrelated company. But Jive needs to make a choice: either allow a Network Overlap (or birds eye view that allows you to see the details of multiple networks) or allow the assigning of subtasks.
    • HORRIBLE SUNRISE INTEGRATION - Those who love using Sunrise Calendar (recently acquired by Microsoft) will be happy to find that Producteev and Sunrise play together, though not well. The only option Producteev provides through the Sunrise API is "on" and "off". In other words, you just only have the option to show ALL your Producteev tasks (regardless of network or project) or nothing at all... huge bummer. To be frank, I wouldn't classify this as an "integration".
