Been a Basecamp user for more than 10 years. Our company has embraced this product to manage many of our consulting projects. We manage a few 100 projects in this system at any one time and regularly archive projects as they close down. We've found it to be a great resource that provides all the basic tools need to manage a project, including calendars, file posts, message areas, and to do lists.The user interface is relatively intuitive, and takes minimal training for new staff. Our clients enjoy this as a central place to see all their vital project data, and a log of all the message exchanges and file versions that have been shared time. Most of our clients work for government agencies, and they have very limited inbox space via email accounts. Whereas, Basecamp allows for MUCH larger files (up to 2 GB, but big for us is a few 100 MB), so we can confidently post everything we need to on this site and trust that the client time can get access to it. We have chosen to stick with Basecamp Classic, although they have since released version 2 and 3. Those both look like great products. However, many of our public agency clients lag behind with older operating software and browsers, so we are still hanging on.The newer version has much nicer methods for adding people onto a project or message exchange. More flexible, and less need for admins to intervene.

Pros :

  • All the basic project management feature you need to succeed.
  • The menus and features are relatively simple and easy to learn.
  • It hits the sweet spot that work well for smaller and mid-sized businesses, without getting into more comprehensive PM tools, such as cost tracking systems.

Cons :

  • Not a lot to say here. Again, if you are shooting for a smaller, nimble and powerful set of tools, this is your baby.
  • If you want to have a more complete set of tools, then look elsewhere.

When you first see the Liquid Planner interface, it can be overwhelming. There are so many options, and each feature has its own little icon (similar to Microsoft Word), and so it takes some time to wrap your head around. But, once you take some time to go into the features and start creating projects and tasks, it starts to sink in how unexpectedly user-friendly it can be.

Pros :

  • LiquidPlanner is extremely feature-heavy. You get out of it what you put into it. If you have a massive team of Account Managers, Digital Marketers, Content Creators, Developers, and Project Managers (as many companies that need project management solutions do), they all can use Liquid Planner for their part of the project.
  • The folder/file structure that we're all used to thanks to Microsoft makes it easy for anyone to grasp the basic concept of Liquid Planner.
  • For more advanced project managers, you can easily utilize the Scrum methodology with the different available project management views.
  • Assigning projects and tasks are very easy. So is setting due dates projects/tasks.
  • The ability to add comments to individual projects/tasks makes quick collaboration and feedback easier than it would otherwise be with email, phone calls, or unnecessary face-to-face meetings.
  • Being able just to drag and drop content/files into tasks is an understated feature of the tool that sped up my day-to-day significantly.

Cons :

  • It can be overwhelming. Especially if you have 30 people working in a single instance of Liquid Planner, it could look like a mess.
  • It's not one of those solutions that so easy to use that anyone can go in and figure it out. You will need to train people to use it (it won't take long, but training is a must). Otherwise, it's so easy for a novice to accidentally delete tasks, projects, or even users.

    Basecamp is a solid project management tool that enables team coordination, team to-dos, shared discussions, shared and organized files, and other features. Its visual presentation is reasonably slick and its interface quite intuitive. andnbsp;I used Basecamp for old projects, but did not stay with it as I found its features were not sufficiently helpful for my small team and Use Case. However, I could log onto Basecamp and use the tool without reading the help guide - the interface of Basecamp was self-explanatory. andnbsp;Basecamp has both free and paid tiers, as well as allowing Users to log in for a free trial.

    Pros :

    • Basecamp is still a solid, actively maintained tool that serves all its stated purposes.
    • It is certainly usable for a project today. Its interface is slick and requires little instruction, although a bit of time to learn how to use. andnbsp;Its features are clearly listed and can be explored on one's own without hitting snags.
    • Basecamp gives plenty of chances to explore the service on its free trial, and the free tier is usable for small teams. andnbsp;
    • It is still continually improving, and its combination of services is a very useful combination for a team to be using. Teams can be well coordinated with Basecamp.

    Cons :

    • When Basecamp was created, it was more useful than it is today.
    • Many of Basecamp's current services are better provided by other tools that have since come to the market. For example, Basecamp's file sharing features have since been developed by Google Drive, Box, Microsoft Cloud and Dropbox, which are more specialized for the purpose and continue to develop new features with more resources behind them than Basecamp. andnbsp;
    • Tools such as Mixmax and even Gmail provide some of Basecamp's shared email services.
    • I haven't been on a professional team that used Basecamp for project coordination, and other tools served the purpose.

    The new Basecamp from 37signals is out, and I’ve been using it for about a month now. It’s an amazing product and, pending some minor tweaksandadditions, poised to become the new standard for project management tools to adhere to. I’ve used the original Basecamp (now renamed to Basecamp Classic) for a long time and I always had mixed feelings about it. It did a lot of things well, but as a whole, it often felt like a drag; keeping Basecamp updated became a task of its own.

    One of the most popular choices for project management is BaseCamp. The company has a strong consumer following, but has severe limitations when it comes to interacting with clients.

    Liquid Planner isn't like other project management software: it's much, much harder to use and has more features than anything I have ever seen out there. This comes at a price—usability is a huge issue with Liquid Planner. Learning it is hard. Using it is hard. Sticking with it is possibly even harder. Online project management became so popular because it was easy. Liquid Planner, on the other hand, wins first place in the category "hardly usable". If you need extra features in terms of project estimates, and want to use it to bill people and kep all of your company's workload under control, then yes, it does make sense.
