great and reliable, all the details I'm getting for the last 6 years are pretty accurate ( have no idea what inaccuracy mentioned by andy). excellent for both small one site operators (like I started) and up to biggest agencies.

Ahrefs is the most accurate, but not the most comprehensive, backlink analysis tool that I’ve ever used. What I mean by that is that any link it tells you is there is most likely there, as stated. However, it often does not find all of the links that are out there. It is continuously getting better at finding more and more links, but if you need a comprehensive list, you may want to combine the list from Ahrefs with other tools, like MajesticSEO and Open Site Explorer. You may even want to run the resulting list through SEO PowerSuite’s SEO SpyGlass to get the live information about those links. But, if you are looking for an overview of a link profile, Ahrefs will do that for you without a bunch of additional processing. You will get an accurate list of the most prominent links for the site, even if you don’t get a completely comprehensive list. But, the more comprehensive tools tend to have more inaccuracies in them, particularly links that are no longer there. One great feature that Ahrefs has that the other tools haven’t seemed to incorporate yet is the ability to filter out links that are in your disavow file in Google Search Console. You’ll have to download your list from Google Search Console and manually upload it into Ahrefs, but then it will ignore links that have been disavowed, giving you a much more accurate look at your list of links without having to export links and manually process them. It is a great feature.
- Has a very accurate list of backlinks for analysis - Runs quickly - Supports Disavow files - Can check on competitors easily
- Doesn’t have the most comprehensive list of backlinks for analysis - The uploaded Disavow file applies to all reports, not just the site you upload it for - The tool is one of the more expensive backlink tools
Yoast is most well-known for its plugin for Drupal and WordPress. WordPress is the version I am most familiar with, and is the most common version. It is practically a given on every WordPress project I do. It is the best and most flexible plugin for setting up SEO on a WordPress site that I have found. The two most important things it can do quickly and easily is to templatize clean URLs and clean title tags. While there are other ways to do this, the Yoast plugin is definitely the easiest and most effective. There are other SEO features built into the plugin as well. For example, it can selectively set types of pages (i.e., category, author, archive, etc.) to “noindex, follow”, a common recommendation for WordPress blogs. This plugin is most commonly compared with All in One SEO Pack. While All in One SEO Pack is generally capable of doing everything that Yoast does, there is one key difference that causes me to go with Yoast instead. When All in One SEO Pack adds things like title tags and meta descriptions to a page, it keeps the page from rendering until everything else is loaded, and then inserts the changes. For any site that loads even slightly slow, this means a blank page until the page is fully loaded. This is not a great practice, and Yoast manages to make the changes without hurting the load speed. It is extremely easy to use, and it is free to download the basic version. I have not yet found a need to upgrade it to the full version, but if you need additional support, it is certainly an option.
- Easy to use - Basic version is free - Performs many global SEO functions on a WordPress site - Doesn’t hurt load speed
- Only works on a couple open source platforms (mainly WordPress and Drupal)
AWR Cloud support is terrible, even when you need help with something as simple as your account billing. The product has potential, but we're still looking for the best solution. I find the competitor views completely unusable because the competitor names overlap so much that you can't read them, and it doesn't look professional enough for me to pass on to clients.

SheerSEO is a fantastic piece of SEO tracking software that lets you see how your site is doing online. The software comes with TONS of useful information that you can use, such as; keyword statistics, keyword density, page rankings, SERP tracker, page referrers, backlink checker, and many more! I’d definitely recommend trying SheerSEO out. I’ve not been using them for long, but it has become very useful when trying to assess my own SEO strategy.More about SheerSEO

I’ve tested quite a few rank checking tools over the years, and always came back to Advanced Web Ranking as a tool of choice. It allows you to store things over the long-haul, the user interface is faster than web UI competitors, and I’ve never had a service outage. It also combines social mentions, Google Analytics, and link data in an easy to use intuitive way.More about Advanced Web Ranking Cloud

Now that the basics are out of the way I have to say that I absolutely love the Ahrefs tool. It’s fast and the graphical representations are very easy to understand (even for a novice I imagine.) In this suite you’ll find a Site Explorer, Keywords Analysis, Backlinks Report, Domain Comparison, Batch Analysis, and Competition Analysis tools.More about Ahrefs

I found the SheerSEO service to be a useful resource to check Google rankings during my free trial period, but I will not be spending my money on a paid subscription once the trial is over and I would not recommend spend their money on a subscription. Since the free trial does not require a credit card, I do think it is worth signing up for the trial period regardless so you can test our the rank tracking service for yourself with your own data.More about SheerSEO
