I started using Moz to not only get more in-depth tracking tools but to simplify the process while having more resources to learn local online marketing with. They are a great company with a great tool with a lot of insight into staying up to date with a tool that can handle a lot of up to date trends. Whether you have one company with multiple websites or are like me and manage multiple clients marketing campaigns, it's a great tool to have.
Screaming Frog is one of the easiest to use and most comprehensive crawling software packages on the market. It thoroughly crawls a site with lots of options, including options to extract data from the site for other users, or to check to see which pages have specific types of content. The program is also constantly being updated with new and useful features. Some useful features that have been added in the past year: visual representations of responses and errors, the ability to extract information directly from websites with regular expressions, the ability to selectively ignore the robots.txt file to gather additional information, and more. If you are looking for a tool that will give you a solid view of an entire site with lists of errors on the site in a comprehensive and exportable fashion, this is the tool for you. Here are some of the types of errors it can detect and export: 300 level errors, 400 level errors, 500 level errors, URLs with underscores or capital layers, duplicate URLs, URLs with parameters, URLs that are too long, missing or duplicate titles, titles too long or too short, titles same as the H1, multiple titles on one page, missing or duplicate descriptions, descriptions too long or too short, multiple descriptions on one page, missing H1s or H2s, duplicate H1s or H2s, H1s or H2s too long, multiple H1s or H2s on the page, and more.
- Extensive crawler - Easy to use - Lots of options - Exporting is widely available and covers everything for the premium version - Frequent updates included in the price
- Costs annually to keep using the premium version - Uses up a lot of memory for large sites - Increasing the memory limit is non-intuitive
Yoast is most well-known for its plugin for Drupal and WordPress. WordPress is the version I am most familiar with, and is the most common version. It is practically a given on every WordPress project I do. It is the best and most flexible plugin for setting up SEO on a WordPress site that I have found. The two most important things it can do quickly and easily is to templatize clean URLs and clean title tags. While there are other ways to do this, the Yoast plugin is definitely the easiest and most effective. There are other SEO features built into the plugin as well. For example, it can selectively set types of pages (i.e., category, author, archive, etc.) to “noindex, follow”, a common recommendation for WordPress blogs. This plugin is most commonly compared with All in One SEO Pack. While All in One SEO Pack is generally capable of doing everything that Yoast does, there is one key difference that causes me to go with Yoast instead. When All in One SEO Pack adds things like title tags and meta descriptions to a page, it keeps the page from rendering until everything else is loaded, and then inserts the changes. For any site that loads even slightly slow, this means a blank page until the page is fully loaded. This is not a great practice, and Yoast manages to make the changes without hurting the load speed. It is extremely easy to use, and it is free to download the basic version. I have not yet found a need to upgrade it to the full version, but if you need additional support, it is certainly an option.
- Easy to use - Basic version is free - Performs many global SEO functions on a WordPress site - Doesn’t hurt load speed
- Only works on a couple open source platforms (mainly WordPress and Drupal)

One of my criticisms of the SEOmoz tools has always been that they felt a bit style over substance. Moz analytics is still a beta product so I’m not going to be too harsh here but the toolset does to me still feel a bit empty and I’m not convinced there’s much of an improvement over the old Pro dashboard which Moz Analytics will replace. However some of the tools are excellent and the content is really useful for keeping you up to date.More about Moz Analytics
