Searchmetrics is a great all-round tool for monitoring and progressing your online marketing strategy. In my opinion, the most value comes from the visibility index, which not only allows you to monitor your organic and paid visibility, but also that of your competitors, giving you great insights into how well your competitors are doing, and exactly when they hit peaks and troughs. Using this data, it’s possible to do some more digging to understand is there was a particular campaign that helped to give them the boost, allowing you to learn from their success.
Yoast is most well-known for its plugin for Drupal and WordPress. WordPress is the version I am most familiar with, and is the most common version. It is practically a given on every WordPress project I do. It is the best and most flexible plugin for setting up SEO on a WordPress site that I have found. The two most important things it can do quickly and easily is to templatize clean URLs and clean title tags. While there are other ways to do this, the Yoast plugin is definitely the easiest and most effective. There are other SEO features built into the plugin as well. For example, it can selectively set types of pages (i.e., category, author, archive, etc.) to “noindex, follow”, a common recommendation for WordPress blogs. This plugin is most commonly compared with All in One SEO Pack. While All in One SEO Pack is generally capable of doing everything that Yoast does, there is one key difference that causes me to go with Yoast instead. When All in One SEO Pack adds things like title tags and meta descriptions to a page, it keeps the page from rendering until everything else is loaded, and then inserts the changes. For any site that loads even slightly slow, this means a blank page until the page is fully loaded. This is not a great practice, and Yoast manages to make the changes without hurting the load speed. It is extremely easy to use, and it is free to download the basic version. I have not yet found a need to upgrade it to the full version, but if you need additional support, it is certainly an option.
- Easy to use - Basic version is free - Performs many global SEO functions on a WordPress site - Doesn’t hurt load speed
- Only works on a couple open source platforms (mainly WordPress and Drupal)

We tried out Positionly for a couple of weeks since we were looking for seo software which was web based, easy to use and just does what's important without paying for features we don't need. Positionly is ok but a lot of features are only important on their feature page because when using it they don't work as good, example: - They offer an option to add/save notes to your project. But the styling of the notes will be stripped and you are not allowed to use any line-breaks. Oh and you aren't able to edit once submitted. Not sure about you but I like to keep my notes up to date instead of having to read over dozens and dozens of notes. - Positionly claims you can also track your pages but when you enter keywords related to your pages your website score will go down. For example: if you have 6 pages and the index and you want to focus on 3 keywords per page you will have 21 keywords. You will now receive 'suggestions' to lower your keywords because it's to much. They recommend 4-6 a page.. - The backlinks feature was the most important feature for us but they claim to update it daily, support says they dont update it daily but weekly but in the terms it's stated they are updated once a month. And to top it off; results on the backlink page often displays a backlink as missing/removed but when you look at the specific page results it will be listed there as active...More about Positionly
