Conductor Searchlight is meant to replace several other tools: primarily, rank tracking and task management. It manages to do both effectively, once you fully learn the platform. However, like many platforms that try to do many different things, it can be confusing to use at first. However, they offer full training over multiple meetings with their packages, so that might not be too much of a problem for some users. Another issue with platforms that try to do multiple things, it sometimes results in a tool that is good, but not great, at all things. This seems to be the case with Conductor. Rank tracking, for example, doesn’t collect as much information as some other tools, and typically only collects the information that it does collect once a week. Some other rank tools do the same, but others will collect daily. The default setup for a domain only tracks 100 keywords, and increasing the amount can be very expensive. The charges are also per site, which is generally not a problem for agencies or single site companies, but can become problematic for smaller companies with multiple sites. On the task management side, it generally creates tasks through annotations on the findings. In my experience, it was somewhat difficult to get a full view of all of the tasks that were assigned. Some more training may have corrected that, though. I wasn’t able to attend all of the training sessions. However, if you want a platform in which you can look at a lot of pertinent data and assign tasks based on it right there on the spot, Conductor does that effectively. I would suggest getting a full tour before jumping into this one to make sure that you’ll be able to use the somewhat confusing platform.
- Expensive - Can be confusing, especially for new users - Doesn’t include as much information in the rank tracking as some other platforms, such as full SERP displays
