About Heroku

Heroku is a virtual platform as a service (PaaS) supporting some programming languages. Salesforce.com acquired Heroku in 2010.

Heroku helps developers build beautiful, customer-facing apps faster than ever before by removing the complexity of architecting your app for the Web.

Build apps in dozens of modern programming languages — including Ruby on Rails, Node.js, Python, Java, and more — then move your app to the Web with a few simple clicks. Heroku apps scale to meet demand with ease, and you get full control, infinite capacity, and independent scaling for each component of an app.

  • Heroku Use Cases and Deployment ScopeWe needed a trusted hosting platform that could scale but wouldn't come down like the other PaaS companies that pop up every day. In my previous role, Heroku was used for multiple applications, from our production application to one off proof of concepts.

Pros : The UI and admin dashboard made it easy to understand what was going on with each application.Heroku makes it easy to control who has access to your deployment platform. The command-line tool (CLI) is very well made. It makes deployment simple.

Cons : Our biggest gripe is the hoops we had to jump through in order to see exactly what went wrong during deployments.

  • What do you like best?

Take a concept live in minutes. Viable for many, many different sizes of project. Ties right into my git workflow with very low hurdles.

    What do you dislike?

Their dependence on Amazon brought them down a few times this year.

  • Heroku pairs rapid application deployment with a wealth of developer tools, but is light on manageability. It makes it easy to deploy a live application at no cost. Conversely, Heroku doesn't offer a fully functional dashboard for managing an application. With a preference for the command line, the Heroku team appears to have adopted a minimalist approach to the Web user interface.

Heroku has been for me the best solution to deploy and test my applications before getting them completely online. It allows you to run your small/middle projects without any problems for free and even if it's a big one you can actually upgrade your account in order to keep using it no matter the amount of traffic you're getting or the size of the project, right now I've one project on heroku (Beta version) and it's been working great, it's called paisajeweb

    Pros :

Heroku has a lot of good features, it has a great community and it's probably one of the most popular options. These are a couple of things that I like about it:

    • Project's technology support: Heroku can basically support almost any kind of app, it doesn't matter if your project is made under a Full Javascript Stack or another languajes such as PHP or Ruby integrated with some frontend Frameworks and a noSql database, it'll run without any major complications, you only have to set up your project and choose the correct addons and configurations, after this it'll be online in a sec.
    • Easiest Deploy of my life: The first time I used Heroku I was impressed because you can deploy your projects as easy as making a push into it's repository just like another day in your life.
    • Decent speed: When I use a free version of something I always expect it to be slow and full of ads. Well... I've been working with Heroku for a while now and the stability/speed of my projects is really decent, I haven't had any complains from users andnbsp;at all.

    Cons :

    • I don't really have any complains about Heroku for now, It's been a great solution for me, it's not perfect of course but for now I haven't had any important issues with it and haven't found a better option where to upload my projects based on stack js.
