About Grooveshark

Grooveshark is a web-based music application built for anyone on the internet to listen to music on-demand at no charge.

Users have the ability to listen to single songs from over 15 million songs, save playlists, and embed both on other websites, blogs, and social media profiles via the Grooveshark Widget. Grooveshark offers users the option to access their Grooveshark accounts remotely with mobile applications for Android, jailbroken iOS, BlackBerry, and HP Palm WebOS devices.

Grooveshark also allows artists and record labels to promote themselves through the application with rich site takeovers, advertising based on a slew of targeting and demographic data, and getting their music straight to the ears of the music fans most likely to love it. All data and analytics relating to an artist (or group of artists) are freely available to promoters and bands, such as the number of times their content has been listened to, along with demographic and geographic information about the listeners.

  • Most complete online streaming, mobile offline listening, and station type music suggestion option in the market, with decent pricing.

  • If you're a music fan who wants to explore new genres, discover new bands/artists, and share your discoveries via social networking, then Grooveshark is one of the best services to use. The free account provides a generous tool set while the subscription plans provide added features to maximize your music experience in the cloud. What makes Grooveshark stand out from the usual streaming music service crowd is that you can also upload your music library. With great support for a wide range of smartphone platforms too, it offers a flexible service for your digital music needs.

  • Even though the bugs in Grooveshark really bug me, it turns out they weren't dealbreakers. I haven't used my iPod since I started using this Grooveshark Anywhere App, which is a win for me since I now have less thing to carry around . I think that with a few bug updates and fixes, this will prove to be an amazing app.

When it comes to music and especially of free music it is obvious that immediately comes to mind us Spotify, but this is not the only service that allows you to stream music, one of its direct competitors is definitely Grooveshark.

    andnbsp;

    Pros :

    • andnbsp; The service provided by Grooveshark is really very similar to Spotify that therefore can not be compared to this.
    • First of all a very great difference is that Grooveshark is primarily a web page and is not software that requires installation on the PC.
    • Has many songs availability, the site is well done in terms of layout and display, the search is very fast, the albums are grouped well even if the covers are not loyal to each album but are clear and distinguishable.
    • Very comfortable even in Grooveshark is the functionality to create their own playlists is also very easy to add songs in the playlist as well as listening to a song immediately on icons short close to each track.
    • Convenient is the utility of import and export playlists.
    • For each artist you can listen to the radio, share informations on major social networks, display all albums and view the lyrics of a single song.
    • Comfortable is the progress bar of the song always in view footnotes, as well as a list of songs in the queue.
    • If you are interested to the APP, it is only available for Android and only for users who have a premium account, looking online is also another in great to allow listening to grooveshark songs.
    • Using it on web is free, if you want to use grooveshark on mobile devices you must create a premium account.

    Cons :

    • Not all languages are available, currently only English, French, Russian, Spanish and Nederlands.
    • Streaming is good although not always everything works as it should, I still have not figured out if it is a connectivity issue, or if the site has problems running some songs, for example in the event of an overload or other, often a few songs and jump they are not reproducible.

I’m a little confused. I moved from Grooveshark to Youtube a while ago, for one and only reason: I was not able to share my playlist with my wife, and let her add or remove songs… This morning, I have told myself why not try it back to see how it is now going. Grooveshark.com now redirect to some kind of strange service, not remembering my user and password. I googled Grooveshark and went on Grooveshark.im, same feel and look that is used to, but still now remembering my password. I decided to google more, and try finding what it was going on, to discover that Grooveshark, is dead? Based on Wikipedia, the site closed on April 30, 2015, after a settlement. On July 19, the co-founder Josh Greenberg was found dead. For the last hours, I’ve been listening music on Grooveshark.im while reading on the subject, with “New Grooveshark” closed, but, I’m on right now… hard to explain. Based on Wikipedia again, Apple killed it in 2010, Android in 2011, Facebook in 2012 and Google, 2013. Hard to tell how it survived that long being banned on all the major platform. So far, the suggestions are good, no publicity, and no ad asking for my money. I don’t know how long the site will be on since there is nothing anywhere, no contact form, or terms. I searched for many different song and artist, and found everything I was looking for, the database seems ok, but the search is pretty hard to use. I tried to find songs for a specific artist, and had to go thru a lot of different clicks before finding it. The related artist is pretty strange, but related songs seem to be better. A lot of songs are not working, having my client “switching” to the next songs very often. I really thing that Grooveshark is dead!

    Pros :

    • I don’t see any Pros right now, since the service is down, and Grooveshark.im is unusable.

    Cons :

    • Based on Grooveshark.im, so many bugs, the search don’t give anything good.

I was a frequent Grooveshark user for a number of years, until I made the switch to Spotify when it was made available in my country. Before being exposed to the features of Spotify, Grooveshark was an excellent product in isolation. However, once I began trying out Spotify, I realised how limited Grooveshark actually was. First of all, during my time with Grooveshark, there was no mobile app available on neither iOS nor Android. This was not a big problem, although it meant that it was only possible to listen to music through Grooveshark when on a computer and with access to a web browser. This is one feature which I immediately appreciated when I started using Spotify. Similarly, Spotify also has an offline listening feature, where songs can be downloaded and played later - this is something which Grooveshark lacked too. Another big disadvantage of Grooveshark is that since many playlists are user-created, they were littered with spelling mistakes, expletives and grammatical errors. In a nutshell, Grooveshark had very little moderation. Recently, Grooveshark appears to have lost a number of copyright-related lawsuits - so for users making use of the service, it appears to be no different to pirating music. This in itself is also another reason why Spotify offers a much better, more ethical service. Now that the legal battles have passed, a number of different versions of Grooveshark have appeared and shut down again, so the actual authenticity of each version of Grooveshark which commences operations again, is uncertain. There are therefore no reasons whatsoever to use Grooveshark over Spotify - the latter is constantly improving, adding new features and obtains music licences legally, while Grooveshark does not tick any of those boxes. During my time using Grooveshark, there were also a large amount of bugs and stability issues within the web player.

    Pros :

    • During my time using Grooveshark, there were no adverts between songs in the free version, unlike Spotify.

    Cons :

    • No mobile app available at time of usage.
    • No offline listening, unlike Spotify.
    • Many playlists are user-created and littered with spelling mistakes, expletives and grammatical errors. In a nutshell, Grooveshark had very little moderation.
    • Grooveshark recently experienced many copyright-related lawsuits.
    • After lawsuits there is a lot of uncertainty, as many versions of Grooveshark pop up and disappear again.

Grooveshark is the bomb diggity, the cats Meow, the greatest invention since the creation of bread. Ok, so that's a little over the top but Grooveshark is great! Listen to just about any song you want, when you want, streamed to your device. Create your own Playlists or randomly search for whatever tune you are in the mood for. Imagine listening to any song, any time, anywhere. - Tom

I love Grooveshark for my mobile solution when I want to listen to music without a wifi connection or in remote areas. I made all of my music available offline before I went on a recent trip to Cuba. I loved that I was able to sit by the pool and enjoy my music with my friends without being charged for data usage (air plane mode for the win). This feature is only available with purchasing a Grooveshark membership but I still find it to be absolutely worth it for the number of times I go camping\kayaking or have reduced network connectivity. My only issue with Grooveshark is sometimes there are errors playing songs or the songs on my playlists no longer work. I would recommend Grooveshark to anyone looking for a great app/website to use for their music collection.
