Grammarly Review by Cloudswave

Most of us, if we’re being honest, would admit that our English isn’t the best. Even though we may be native speakers and took plenty of English classes in school, when it comes to our actual writing, we find that our emails, homework, proposals, and much more are riddled with errors. Good English demands that you follow a number of rules and a lot of people still struggle with there, their and they’re. This is where Grammarly tries to help out.

“But I Already Have Spellcheck”

Of course, many of you may be wondering why a software that checks your spelling and grammar would be necessary. After all, you already have this type of platform no matter what kind of word processor you use. In fact, the vast majority of us grew up with one. We’re used to seeing the squiggly lines underneath a word, phrase or sentence when we make a spelling, punctuation or grammatical mistake.

Here’s the thing though, and you’ve probably observed this before: your current tool doesn’t catch everything. Haven’t you ever run spellcheck and later found out that something was wrong and still slipped through? Everyone has!

Grammarly will catch those errors and then some. You can still use spellcheck if you like, but Grammarly is going to go the extra mile to do so much more.

Spell Checking in Context

Alright, the spell checking tool that Grammarly provides is pretty self-explanatory. However, it’s nice that the software will point out why it believes “any time” is preferable to “anytime” and similar preferences. That goes a long way toward helping the user not make the same mistake in the future.

It’s also worth noting that Grammarly can spell check within context extremely well. For example, both “any time” and “anytime” are spelled correctly. That doesn’t mean, though, that they’re both correct. In one context, you want to say the former and in others, you’d want to use the latter. This is something your word processor’s spellchecker will almost always miss. Fortunately, Grammarly won’t.

Grammarly’s Grammar Checker

The grammar checker does much the same. It does a tremendous job, too, of catching things that your word processor simply won’t. In fact, you may be surprised by how many mistakes your current spellchecker was letting you make on a regular basis.

As with the spell checking feature, Grammarly will explain to you why the mistakes you’re making with your grammar are incorrect. This will make you a better writer in the future, because you’ll be more likely to catch your errors before you make them.

At the end of the day, no matter what kind of grammar checking your word processor employs, you can rest assured it’s not referencing the 250 advanced rules that Grammarly does. It’s most likely not even coming close.

Use Better Words

Another thing your spellchecker won’t do is suggest better words. Sometimes, your sentence will be perfect in terms of grammar and punctuation. Unfortunately, your sentence may be lacking punch. It might be more impactful if you knew the right synonyms to better emphasize what you were trying to say.

Grammarly will actually do this. It can gain a sense of what you’re trying to say and suggest which words would really drive home your point.

Plagiarism Check

Plagiarism has become a bigger problem as the years go by. It’s fairly easy to see why. Prior to the Internet, if you wanted to plagiarize someone, you had to do a lot of copying by hand, either writing or typing. Nowadays, though, all you have to do is highlight what you want to plagiarize, hit copy and then hit paste. That’s all there is to it.

However, it’s even worse than that. These days, “spinning software” exists. This software will take any writing you give it and “spin it” by inserting as many synonyms as possible. This is meant to create a piece of writing that appears new, though it’s really just lazy plagiarism at its finest.

Lastly, some of us plagiarize by accident. This is actually fairly easy to do when you consider just how much writing is out there on the Internet. If you’re writing about a fairly specific topic, there can seem to be only so many ways to talk about it. While the casual reader may not notice anything off, Google will. You’ll be punished for your error by losing rank in this and other search engines.

Grammarly’s plagiarism check will put your writing against any published copy out on the World Wide Web and immediately return results. Obviously, this is a good way of keeping yourself out of trouble. However, it’s also a smart method for checking other people’s work. If you’re a teacher, an editor or someone who otherwise depends on writers, it’s extremely helpful to be able to simply run anyone’s copy through Grammarly and get peace of mind that you’re not being ripped off.

Millions Use It

Not that you should always go with the crowd, but Grammarly isn’t some obscure piece of software only reserved for grammar nerds. Over four million people around the world depend on this online platform. Teachers, students, bloggers, business professionals and many more depend on Grammarly every day to make sure that their English hits the target.

Furthermore, you may have first heard about Grammarly because of the extremely positive reviews it has received from various publications like Forbes, Harvard Business Review and ABC News. Many other notable publications have highlighted the impact Grammarly has made as well and, in every case, their appraisal supported people to add the software to all of their writing.

Grammarly is a tremendous platform for people of every level of English. Whether you’re just learning the language, you’re a grad student or the one correcting the papers, Grammarly is going to cut down on a lot of the work ahead of you. Even business people should consider this software as it will ensure they always come across as professional. With so many great review and so many fans across the world, it’s definitely worth trying out for yourself.

Is Grammarly Worth the Money? The short answer is YES! I have an assistant editor who works with me on several client projects, as well as this blog. She proofs posts and newsletters before they’re published, and reviews ebooks and workbooks that I’ve created. For her awesome service, I gladly pay her several hundred dollars every month. But if you don’t have the budget to hire an assistant editor, Grammarly is a much more affordable option. It will provide many of the same services, at a much more budget-friendly price.
