Cloudswave Editorial Review
Weebly Review by Cloudswave
In today's world, nearly everyone needs to have a website. Whether it is a large company, a boutique, a freelancer, or just someone who wants to keep their friends and family up to date with everything that's happening in their life, a website is essential. Of course, creating a website can be a hassle at best and downright impossible at worst.
Many of the tools available for creating sites are overly complicated, and this can turn away many who simply do not have the technical skills or the time to learn how to build a website from the ground up. Enter Weebly, a website builder that claims to take away all of the confusion and frustration of getting a high quality, aesthetically pleasing site online quickly.
Weebly has been around for a number of years now, and it has not only survived, but thrived in that time while other website builders have faded away. It has more than 30 million users as of now. The longevity of the brand, along with the features we will be discussing in this review, could be enough of a reason to try it.
What Features Does Weebly Offer?
Ease of use is probably one of the biggest reasons that this product has continued to do so well even though is it not a feature per se. You can start with one of their beautifully and professionally crafted themes and then develop your site from there. You have full control over the theme layout so you can rework the design to make it unique to your site.
It is also possible to customize the background images by choosing from some free backgrounds, or uploading your own. The sites you build can be useful for creating websites, blogs, and even online stores quickly and simply. You can have a site that's as large or as small as you need and that is catered directly to your visitors.
Once you start to set up the theme, you can start to add various types of content elements. These include things such as text, photos, and video. Adding them is as simple as dragging and dropping them where you want them. Editing text works in the same manner as if you were writing in a word processing program, and you can see everything happening in real time.
Many like the fact that they are creating everything through their browser as well - they do not have to install anything on their machine and the upgrades to the software are all done through Weebly.
In addition, you can buy a domain through Weebly if you choose. However, many find it cheaper to buy a domain elsewhere, and then redirect it to their new site. If you want to keep everything together, and you do not mind paying a bit extra for the domain name through Weebly, you can always go with that option.
Another benefit of using Weebly is that they make it easy to create a website that will work well in mobile formats. All of their themes are responsive, which means they will adapt to the different sized screens on mobile devices. This ensures they always look good and work well. Users are even able to preview the mobile site through their browser so they know exactly what it looks like.
This feature ensures you are able to keep up with the changing times where many people are using their phones and tablets to scour the web rather than their desktop computers. On the topic of mobile, they also offer apps for Android, iPhone, and iPad, so you can create and edit your site on the go.
The hosting that Weebly offers is topnotch as well. This ensures speed and reliability for your visitors, which is essential if you want those visitors to return. If they have a slow experience or can't connect to your site, there is a good chance they will not come back. Having a host that you can trust to keep your site up and running means you will have less worry and more time to take care of other elements of your business.
Users can create a dynamic photo gallery that features transition effects, automatic resizing, and special layouts for the gallery. Make slideshows, edit the photos, and even use some photos from their massive library for your site. People love video, and with Weebly, it is easy to embed video from sites such as YouTube. You could also upload the files to Weebly and they will host them if you prefer.
SEO is important for any website that wants to do well today. The title, description, and meta tags are customizable at the page level, and you can also customize the ALT text on the images you add to the site. This is an area that many users overlook, but it can really make a difference in how your site ranks on the results pages. Weebly makes it very easy to make edits to your pages for SEO purposes, so it's something that users should really take advantage of.
Weebly makes it easy to add forms, track visitors to your site, and much more. It is one of the most robust website builders available today, as well as one of the most cost effective, and they are always working to improve their system for the customers.
What Are the Current Purchase Options?
As with many similar site builders available, you will find several tiers or plans available with Weebly. They have a free plan that features all of the basics someone might need to get started including the drag and drop builder, free hosting, unlimited pages, and a 500MB storage limit. It also includes chat and email support. The free option might be a good choice for someone who is developing a small personal site that does not need to have access to all of the other features. However, most users will eventually want more.
The Starter plan is currently $8 per month and will include a domain name free for one year. They also offer $100 in Google ad credits and have all of the other features from the free option. In addition, it comes with search engine indexing, which is extremely important for those who want to have their site ranked and indexed. The plan has unlimited storage, a connect domain, a customizable footer, expanded stats to learn more about your site visitors, and the ability to remove Weebly branding from the site.
The Pro plan offers everything in the starter plan, as well as phone supports, HD video and audio players, password protection for the pages, site search, and up to 100 members. The current cost for this plan is $12 per month.
For those who want more features, the Business plan, currently at $25 per month, could be a good solution. It has all of the features of the other plans as well as member registration and SSL security. If you want to sell online, as you will see from the ecommerce features below, this option will give you the most bang for your buck.
The paid plans can also work well for those who want to use their site for ecommerce. The Starter plan allows up to 10 products with a 3% Weebly transaction fee, as well as an integrated shopping cart. The Pro plan allows you to have up to 25 products, and the Business plan allows unlimited product, removal of the transaction fee, inventory management, digital goods, coupon codes, and a shipping and tax calculator.
It should be easy for most potential users to see which of these options would make the most sense for how they need to use the site. However, it might still be a good idea to take some time with the free version just to get a better idea of how the drag and drop tools work. This will give you a much better understanding of whether the builder will be something you can actually use to make the site you want.
Is Weebly a Good Choice?
If you have been trying to find a good website builder that is packed with features, has a very low learning curve, and that is still affordable, it really is hard to go wrong with Weebly. Over the years, they have shown that they have the right stuff when it comes to making things as easy and fast as possible for people who want to get a high quality site up and running. It is certainly not the only site builder that is available, but it is among the best.
The current cost, even for the Business plan, is low. If you do not have any experience coding, and you do not want to shell out thousands of dollars for someone to build your website, this could be a very good alternative. It's used by more than 30 million people and comes highly recommended from those in the field for a reason. Weebly is trusted and respected and is well worth trying.

This platform is a dinosaur of site constructors, and it has to react adequately to the freshest trends in order to survive (to develop mobile versions for the Homestead-powered websites, for instance). This website has a great core, and extremely convenient CMS. However, their prices are higher comparing to other sitebuilders offering the same scope of service.

I have been using Homestead since 2001, their technology is behind the times and I am migrating all of my clients and their websites off to Bluehost with Wordpress. The technology is not HTML5 which if you do your research is important - your website needs to be responsive - so it automagically fits on whatever device the person is browsing on and Homestead does not use this technology and they do not plan on it - or let you use wordpress. They are too expensive when you consider you can have a hosting site for 100 a year plus use the latest technology from wordpress - which is what over 50% of the global websites are built on. No brainer - Homestead is a dinosaur who has not kept up with the times. Sad to say...
