Weebly Review by Cloudswave

In today's world, nearly everyone needs to have a website. Whether it is a large company, a boutique, a freelancer, or just someone who wants to keep their friends and family up to date with everything that's happening in their life, a website is essential. Of course, creating a website can be a hassle at best and downright impossible at worst.
Many of the tools available for creating sites are overly complicated, and this can turn away many who simply do not have the technical skills or the time to learn how to build a website from the ground up. Enter Weebly, a website builder that claims to take away all of the confusion and frustration of getting a high quality, aesthetically pleasing site online quickly.
Weebly has been around for a number of years now, and it has not only survived, but thrived in that time while other website builders have faded away. It has more than 30 million users as of now. The longevity of the brand, along with the features we will be discussing in this review, could be enough of a reason to try it.

What Features Does Weebly Offer?

Ease of use is probably one of the biggest reasons that this product has continued to do so well even though is it not a feature per se. You can start with one of their beautifully and professionally crafted themes and then develop your site from there. You have full control over the theme layout so you can rework the design to make it unique to your site.
It is also possible to customize the background images by choosing from some free backgrounds, or uploading your own. The sites you build can be useful for creating websites, blogs, and even online stores quickly and simply. You can have a site that's as large or as small as you need and that is catered directly to your visitors.
Once you start to set up the theme, you can start to add various types of content elements. These include things such as text, photos, and video. Adding them is as simple as dragging and dropping them where you want them. Editing text works in the same manner as if you were writing in a word processing program, and you can see everything happening in real time.
Many like the fact that they are creating everything through their browser as well - they do not have to install anything on their machine and the upgrades to the software are all done through Weebly.
In addition, you can buy a domain through Weebly if you choose. However, many find it cheaper to buy a domain elsewhere, and then redirect it to their new site. If you want to keep everything together, and you do not mind paying a bit extra for the domain name through Weebly, you can always go with that option.
Another benefit of using Weebly is that they make it easy to create a website that will work well in mobile formats. All of their themes are responsive, which means they will adapt to the different sized screens on mobile devices. This ensures they always look good and work well. Users are even able to preview the mobile site through their browser so they know exactly what it looks like.
This feature ensures you are able to keep up with the changing times where many people are using their phones and tablets to scour the web rather than their desktop computers. On the topic of mobile, they also offer apps for Android, iPhone, and iPad, so you can create and edit your site on the go.
The hosting that Weebly offers is topnotch as well. This ensures speed and reliability for your visitors, which is essential if you want those visitors to return. If they have a slow experience or can't connect to your site, there is a good chance they will not come back. Having a host that you can trust to keep your site up and running means you will have less worry and more time to take care of other elements of your business.
Users can create a dynamic photo gallery that features transition effects, automatic resizing, and special layouts for the gallery. Make slideshows, edit the photos, and even use some photos from their massive library for your site. People love video, and with Weebly, it is easy to embed video from sites such as YouTube. You could also upload the files to Weebly and they will host them if you prefer.
SEO is important for any website that wants to do well today. The title, description, and meta tags are customizable at the page level, and you can also customize the ALT text on the images you add to the site. This is an area that many users overlook, but it can really make a difference in how your site ranks on the results pages. Weebly makes it very easy to make edits to your pages for SEO purposes, so it's something that users should really take advantage of.
Weebly makes it easy to add forms, track visitors to your site, and much more. It is one of the most robust website builders available today, as well as one of the most cost effective, and they are always working to improve their system for the customers.

What Are the Current Purchase Options?

As with many similar site builders available, you will find several tiers or plans available with Weebly. They have a free plan that features all of the basics someone might need to get started including the drag and drop builder, free hosting, unlimited pages, and a 500MB storage limit. It also includes chat and email support. The free option might be a good choice for someone who is developing a small personal site that does not need to have access to all of the other features. However, most users will eventually want more.
The Starter plan is currently $8 per month and will include a domain name free for one year. They also offer $100 in Google ad credits and have all of the other features from the free option. In addition, it comes with search engine indexing, which is extremely important for those who want to have their site ranked and indexed. The plan has unlimited storage, a connect domain, a customizable footer, expanded stats to learn more about your site visitors, and the ability to remove Weebly branding from the site.
The Pro plan offers everything in the starter plan, as well as phone supports, HD video and audio players, password protection for the pages, site search, and up to 100 members. The current cost for this plan is $12 per month.
For those who want more features, the Business plan, currently at $25 per month, could be a good solution. It has all of the features of the other plans as well as member registration and SSL security. If you want to sell online, as you will see from the ecommerce features below, this option will give you the most bang for your buck.
The paid plans can also work well for those who want to use their site for ecommerce. The Starter plan allows up to 10 products with a 3% Weebly transaction fee, as well as an integrated shopping cart. The Pro plan allows you to have up to 25 products, and the Business plan allows unlimited product, removal of the transaction fee, inventory management, digital goods, coupon codes, and a shipping and tax calculator.
It should be easy for most potential users to see which of these options would make the most sense for how they need to use the site. However, it might still be a good idea to take some time with the free version just to get a better idea of how the drag and drop tools work. This will give you a much better understanding of whether the builder will be something you can actually use to make the site you want.

Is Weebly a Good Choice?

If you have been trying to find a good website builder that is packed with features, has a very low learning curve, and that is still affordable, it really is hard to go wrong with Weebly. Over the years, they have shown that they have the right stuff when it comes to making things as easy and fast as possible for people who want to get a high quality site up and running. It is certainly not the only site builder that is available, but it is among the best.
The current cost, even for the Business plan, is low. If you do not have any experience coding, and you do not want to shell out thousands of dollars for someone to build your website, this could be a very good alternative. It's used by more than 30 million people and comes highly recommended from those in the field for a reason. Weebly is trusted and respected and is well worth trying.

  • Based on our Weebly review, it is our opinion that Weebly is one of the easiest website builders to use. Their user interface is minimalistic, so it is designed intentionally to not overwhelm you.
Weebly’s difficulty level is rated as “Low” - it is suitable for users of all technical skill levels (even if you are an absolute beginner).

  • Weebly's interface is tops in my book in terms of ease-of-use letting you build perfectly attractive and functional desktop and mobile sites. With the most intuitive website builder, all the commerce tools you could want, free accounts, included statistics, and portable site code, Weebly is our Editors' Choice for modern website building.

  • The new version of Weebly has just increased the distance between Weebly and other website builders. Weebly continues to double down on creating the easiest website builder for most website projects. This is company that is relentlessly focussed on building and improving a product over time.

Weebly constantly came up when I began searching for best website builders or website makers. Most of my search results led to Weebly, Wix, and Squarespace.andnbsp; For my personal use, I felt Squarespace was a little too complicated for a beginner like myself. I decided to research Weebly and Wix. After comparing the two, I felt like they were both very good for beginners, but my instinct told me that we blue felt either simpler or as if it had fewer options and features built-in. Overall, the value in terms of Weebly’s price is great but I chose another service to make my website.

    Pros :

    • In my opinion, I think the best part about Weebly is that it is definitely user-friendly for beginners to be able to build their very first website and do it within a short period of time.
    • Weebly offered a good amount of templates in order to build a website from, because it is very overwhelming for a beginner to try to design from scratch.andnbsp;
    • Personally, if you are looking to build a simple website,
    • I would highly suggest starting a trial of two or three services that you find most attractive, actually build one full page of a website on each of them, and see which one gives you the best experience and the best outcome.

    Cons :

    • There was not a lot bad about Weebly, but it just felt like something was missing compared to other options. In retrospect,
    • Weebly probably would have served my purposes perfectly to make my website for my technology teaching business.
    • When I first started the idea of my website, I intended to accept payments and have a schedule to book appointments and I felt that we believe options did not look to be as visually appealing as I would have wanted for my visitors when compared to other services.
    • I would like to try Weebly again someday and see how their speed is when editing a website online because what I currently use is good, but kind of slow at times.andnbsp;

In all, the app is great, if you are able to use a computer and navigate the web a bit, you can use this tool. You can use their photos or import your own, you can track visitors, you can do a ton and, if you can run with their basic free site offering (5 custom pages, limited custom contact form fields, etc.), you could build a gorgeous site on a serious budget.andnbsp; Pay for the domain and hosting via Powweb and the site could be free.

Love the solution, definitely neck and neck with the competitive product though as it was really great as well.

    Pros :

    • After comparing Weebly with another site building tool, Weebly definitely won the race.
    • The site design process was clean and straight forward and easy to access via Powweb, whom we host our sites with and through.
    • As we worked through the contact page the settings wouldn't "stick" and, after saving several times and experiencing the same issues with reference email and send button not working, we saw the issue was user related and not the tool.
    • The Weebly system comes complete with everything you need to build a site from nothing.
    • Providing templates, stock photo ideas, categoric site samples, etc.
    • Formatting is there for you and you simply come to the table with your text, what you want to say about the product or service you have to offer.
    • You can expand your use, taking advantage of the basic features for free and you can upgrade so you are able to access other offerings in the app
    • We needed a robust contact form and paid the premium so we could expand our number of fields beyond the few you are allowed with the free account.
    • There are drop downs, free text (short or long), buttons and more for the contact page.
    • It really is "just as advertised", drag and drop for those of us who aren't web developers or who feel more comfortable in the land of HTML instead of CSS.

    Cons :

    • From a support perspective, it's not straight forward finding support topics. Eventually, with the single issue we faced (which we fixed ourselves in the end), we had to submit an online tech support request. This is fine, we are all for self-serve, it's a little frustrating though because you do have to leave the Weebly web design area, returning to Powweb to find their info.andnbsp; There's no simple, ask questions (or chat), from within the Weebly design area.
    • It was very difficult to find tech support contact information, it's not accessible via Weebly, you have to return to Powweb to find the support area. You also Have to purchase paid version if you want multiple fields in contact form. Remember to change domains, defaulted to a secondary domain through Powweb for some reason.

Weebly is a very easy to website builder, and I used it to create an e-commerce site, and I helped to build a yoga studio website with it as well. My daughter, at the age of 9, created her Weebly site with no assistance from me, which speaks to how intuitive the tool is.

The designs and layouts are easy enough to modify to create the look you want, though there are limitations to the template formats. As an e-commerce site, I do like the logical layout of the store information, and I like how easy it is to add coupons, freight rules, taxes, and other order necessary features/content. The transaction fees for credit card purchases are pretty reasonable and am glad to say that our site has been profitable with little extra work required.

An inexpensive ($96/year) live chat feature is available as an app to add to the site, and it has helped me close a few sales as well as learn what products I needed to add to the website (was able to add the product while chatting with the customer).

    Pros :

    • Simple Intuitive Inexpensive.
    • Good e-commerce solution .
    • 3rd party apps available for easy integration.

    Cons :

    • Not fully customizable, but I don't expect that in a template styled website tool.

Weebly is a great place to start if you need a business website quickly and easily and you don't know how to write code to build it.

    Pros :

    • It's very user-friendly and makes it easy for a non-developer to build a website for their business.
    • There are several pre-built designs to choose from that are pretty attractive and can be slightly customized to match your brand.
    • Compared to a lot of the other builders on the market, this one has the most intuitive interface for someone that isn't used to building websites.

    Cons :

    • Most of the templates that it has look really similar.
    • Weebly is a good place to start if you're not used to developing websites and you need to get something put together that is cost-effective and looks nice quickly.
    • As your business grows, you'll need to move to a more robust platform that can handle more of your needs and will grow with you.

There are hundreds of CMS and website builders available at the moment, and Weebly is arguably one of the names which stands out, since it powers a large amount of websites. I have utilised it on a few occasions, and can say that it is a great choice for simple websites and users who have no software development experience, however, it is not a suitable tool for more advanced users and websites. First of all, Weebly has a very easy to use interface, and a simple website builder which gets the job done. It is possible to get a website up and running in around an hour or so, which is partly due to a large amount of free templates and themes which are available. Furthermore, Weebly’s free version includes free hosting, so it is possible to have a completely free website from start to finish, at the expense of a Weebly-branded URL. This is suitable for basic users wanting a quick and simple website, but not ideal for more complex sites and advanced users looking for a unique website which stands out. While a number of third-party plugins and themes are available, the amount does not begin to compare with WordPress and some other large CMS systems on the market. Similar to Shopify, Weebly has a number of eCommerce-friendly features out of the box, while a CMS like WordPress requires plugins to achieve some of the same features. Besides this, Weebly is SEO-conscious out of the box, similar to Shopify and many website builders. The generated code is, therefore, SEO friendly. While Weebly is great for drag-and-drop building, it is not as customizable as a CMS like WordPress, which allows users to manipulate generated code with relatively little hassle. In fact, Weebly is mainly suited for simple web pages which are relatively static and is not the best tool for more complex websites. It is almost impossible to insert custom JavaScript code in Weebly pages, let alone libraries like jQuery. This differs greatly from WordPress, which provides easy access to each site’s header.php page. So overall, Weebly is a great tool for quick and simple websites, but advanced users must look elsewhere if they are after a WordPress-style customization experience.

    Pros :

    • Simple and user-friendly.
    • Many free templates available.
    • Free plan includes free hosting.
    • Decent amount of eCommerce features out of the box.
    • SEO friendly.

    Cons :

    • Much fewer plugins and templates than WordPress.
    • Weebly’s customer service leaves a lot to be desired.
    • WordPress is far more customizable than Weebly, where the latter is quite limited.

Weebly is amongst those services which everyone visit first. It offers a dynamic range of tools to make every single thing count. Certain features are kept premium which seems a bit sad. Most prominent amongst them include the custom domain without the *weebly.com URL and Weebly's own advertisement which cannot be disabled by a free user. Talking about personal opinions, I wanted my blogs to be written down sequential and categorized. Some with images, some with galleries and some with videos and Weebly did exactly that. I am also an SEO enthusiast and find Weebly being highly friendly and organized. We can pick out keywords for the articles and get them a high Google ranking. The drag and drop features work excellently well, and Weebly's design is an outclass.

    Pros :

    • Lots of features.
    • Easy to use drag and drop interface. -SEO friendly.

    Cons :

    • Expensive packages with fluctuations as it is still growing.

Weebly is exactly how I would want a website builder to be. If I were to sit down and tell someone my needs and how I would like them laid out when it comes to a product that is going to help me create my own website, Weebly nailed it. There was not really any learning curve what so ever and after a long weekend of binge watching Netflix and working on my friends portfolio with her we had her personal website up in no time.

The template selection was great, and the templates were extremely flexible and easy to work with. My friend was able to even access the code and change some things to make it even more personalized. That is above my knowledge level, but she said it was extremely easy to use. For those of us that don't know code, I really saw no reason for it because of the amount of templates there were and how flexible the templates were to work with. She signed up for the free version, which is awesome that they offer different price tiers, with the free version you get just about everything, Weebly will place a small add in the footer of your website, though. If that doesn't bug you, though, I see no reason to pay for the service when the free one is perfect.

Once we completed our website a mobile friendly website was automatically created, we had to do no extra work, which was awesome because 90% of internet users are using mobile now and it also helps with how you pull in Google ranks. Weebly was extremely clean, user-friendly, and laid out perfectly for someone who does not necessarily build websites for a living.

While I can not speak to the benefits of their paid levels, the free one is perfect for a photographers portfolio. We were able to produce a professional looking website for my friends business in a weekend without wanting to hurt ourselves.

    Pros :

    • Awesome templates that are extremely easy to use and alter to create even more customization opportunities.
    • No learning curve what so ever.
    • Several package options at different price points which allow you to select what you want to be based off on your need and use of the software.
    • Offers tracking tool that allows you to access to Google Analytics on your website.
    • Unlimited storage space!

    Cons :

    • If you don't have advertisements for Weebly on your website you have to sign up for a paid account.

I started using Weebly for personal use when it first sprung up a few years ago. Since then, the templates, features, and ability to offer a legitimate e-commerce website with payment capabilities have expanded 10 fold! Obviously, the user base for Weebly pales in comparison to Wordpress. But I also think they serve different types of customers. At least that's how Weebly started. Weebly's backend is simple, yet robust. Once you are fluent in how to manipulate the site, the rest is up to you. I'm a photographer and graphic designer, so I was able to create some impressive sites that led me to designing pages and eventually managing several sites for clients. I look forward to growing e-commerce on Weebly as it is very easy to implement. Now, the live feedback with inventory isn't an option yet but I am sure it will be down the road and only necessary if you house thousands of products and high quantities. The templates are flexible, and the available ones are gorgeous. I find it much easier and cleaner than Wix. While Wix may have pricing on size on its side, I prefer Weebly and plan on sticking with them for a long time. I can't wait to see where it all goes. I think for most small to medium sized businesses, Weebly is the perfect platform to use. When your business demands a much larger and robust feature set or a customer e-commerce platform, you will be happy you got started with Weebly. There's about a hundred templates to choose from, and you can even create your own if you wish. Weebly staff is awesome too. They will get back to you within a few hours every time. I never have to wait long to hear back from them. Whether it's a billing question or technical. I like that. The SEO side of it is very simple, and they have overcome the coding hurdles with the latest Google algorithm from what I've read, so you're not going to suffer as long as your content is on point, and the site is robust. It's all up to you or whomever you hire to build your site for you.

    Pros :

    • Simple to use.
    • SEO friendly.
    • Built in fairly accurate analytics.
    • Google Analytics friendly.
    • Very expandable.
    • Easy and very simple to control who has access to what features on the site.

    Cons :

    • Still growing, so pricing has increased substantially but still a great value.

Weebly is the good choice for visual websites creation. It offers the unlimited disk space even for the free account, but the size of a single file cannot exceed 5 MB. Free users can create sites on their own domains — this feature is often considered as premium at the alternative website builders. One more feature worth of attention is that the ads on the free sites are almost invisible (just the small link at the bottom of the page). The user can begin the creation of the website just after the completion of the registration process. Thus, the number of mouse clicks is minimized. You can add slideshows, photo galleries, flash videos, Google maps, YouTube videos, links to files, forms for communication with the site admins, multicolumn text, surveys, RSS-feeds. You can also insert custom blocks of HTML code. But the ability to embed the player with video and audio files uploaded to the site is the prerogative of the premium users. Pro users can also embed various documents (.doc .pdf, .xls, .ppt) that are opened directly in the browser window. The other premium features include adding the favicon to the site and the protection of the whole site and of the individual pages with a password. Weebly users can even include the AdSense ads on the site. But keep in mind that the website owners receive only half of the revenue from advertising, the other half is kept by Weebly. One of the interesting Weebly features is the collaboration on site creation. The owner of the site can add editors and define their roles: for example, some users are given the right to delete comments, others may edit some pages or even have full access to the site administration. But in free account you can only add administrators with full privileges.

    Pros :

    • One of the most features rich all-inclusive website builder Very easy drag-and-drop website builder.

    Cons :

    • The site could not include more than 5 pages for free users and more than 10 on the most cheapest plan Platform Lock-in The installation of Weebly custom apps is not user-friendly.

One of the nice things about Weebly is that you will not have to download and install anything. All of the creation will take place right through your browser. The updates are all automatic as well, since they are taken care of on Weebly's side. This means no more worrying about manual updates.

How Does the Builder Work?

It's all about keeping things as simple as possible. To add elements to a page, you simple click on an item, such as a photo, and then drag and drop it into place. The text is moveable so you can place it where you need it, and the text editor lets you change the size and font quickly and easily. It all happens in real time too, so you do not need to leave the page to see what your site will look like.

What Does It Cost?

There are four different tiers, or plans, available from Weebly right now. You can choose from the Free plan, the Starter plan (currently $8 per month), the Pro plan (currently $12 per month), or the Business plan (currently $25 per month). Each of the successive plans has more features and options, making them better suited to different types of buyers.

Can I Add Video?

As you know video is one of the best ways to keep visitors on your site. People love watching videos, and Weebly makes it very easy to add them to your site. You can simply embed videos from sites such as YouTube. You can also upload the video files to Weebly if you prefer.

Are the Themes "Cookie Cutter"?

One of the most common complaints people have with many website builders is that the themes all look the same and you don't have any customization options. With Weebly, you have full customization over the theme. You can tweak the layout, add your own images, and make it unique for your site.
