Prestashop is absolutely a great solution if you want to create an online store or start on eCommerce, I've used it a few times for some stores, and it's easy to implement and use. It has a bunch of customizable options, and you don't need a deep understanding of programming or development to use it which is great. You can manage your templates and almost every important section of the platform, but it's limited if you are not planning to pay for a good template.

Pros :

Here a couple of things that I think Prestashop is doing well:

  • User experience and usability: The platform is simple and easy to use, it doesn't matter if you know about programming or something similar, you will be able to manage your store without major problems.
  • Statistics: Some of the things that I liked more about PrestaShop is that you can see your statistics in your own admin panel (back office), I mean you can see your sells, visits, orders and statistical numbers about it.
  • Manage clients and discounts: One of the things that I like about PrestaShop is the way that you can manage your discounts and clients, you can see which type of clients are the most active and other things that can help you organize your targets and SEO. Also, you can set rules for discounts really easy.
  • Installing Prestashop is really easy, I was surprised when I had to set up the whole thing because it was concise and simple, a really good and non-traumatic experience compared to othe

Cons :

Somethings I didn't like about Prestashop when I used it:

  • Finding good templates for free is hard, I wasted a lot of time trying to find a good theme for the page and couldn't find anything good honestly, after a couple of hours and searching I found one, but it was a little buggy. If you want a decent theme, you'll have to pay for it.

The online website builder is the most simple way for the website creation. Using Jimdo! The user does not need to go into the FTP server settings, create a database and make changes to configuration files. It is possible to work on the new site in the browser only, using simple visual controls. Jimdo! First appeared more than 10 years ago. Initially, the engine was written for the organizations' websites. The aim was to make such CMS that enables the employees of small and medium businesses to work on site content and to upgrade their corporate websites without contacting the professional webmasters. Later it became clear that the simplicity offered by Jimdo!, may be interesting not only to office workers. This engine is great for creating photo galleries, authors websites, informational sites, blogs, etc. Jimdo! is available in free and paid versions. All sites created within Jimdo free, receive the name mysite.jimdo.com. The site owner could not use the own domain. The space for website files is limited to 500 MB. In addition, each free site page displays a block with advertising, which cannot be removed. Jimdo! Registration is very easy. First, the user has to select the appropriate template for the future website, then pick a name, fill in the email address that will be assigned to the site, and create a password. Immediately after this (even without confirming an email address!) one can see the title page and begin to edit the site. All the web pages' elements in Jimdo sites may be edited visually, without administration panel access. The web pages consist of blocks, that can be removed or edited. For example, the website may include news from different RSS-feeds, blog publications, photos with accompanying text, etc. The standard look of the site can be changed in a variety of ways. It is possible to upload user's image to the site header, to select one of the templates, to customize the headers and background colors that will be used on the site.

Pros :

  • Easy to use visual website builder.
  • Great E-Commerce tools (but they available without limitations only in Business version)

Cons :

  • There are only two sub-levels possible for navigation.
  • No forum.

PrestaShop is a platform that is overall cheap and extremely flexible IF you have the skills to manage it. After reviewing the PrestaShop platform, we believe it should be a top contender in your comparison and analysis of the best ecommerce platforms only if you have a good understanding of programming knowledge and skills.

If you want to start a personal or business website, Jimdo is the best all in one package for building that site without hiring a developer. We strongly recommend getting JimdoBusiness, but you may be able to get by with JimdoPro. To us, it is worth the extra 42 cents a day to go with the business plan. Of course, if you are still unsure about whether you want to go with Jimdo, start out with the JimdoFree plan, and upgrade once you see how useful it is…and get tired of the ads on your website.

I have three stores now with Prestashop, which I have been using for over six years. I would say that the older versions worked perfectly well and I had no problems. I would have given 5 stars in all areas. (I am talking version 1.6.0.9 or thereabouts) Unwittingly "upgrading" to the latest versions, I'm now on 1.6.0.14, has rendered Prestashop almost unworkable. It only works now for me thanks to the brilliant paid add-on Store Manager. My two sites with fewer products - 20 and 1200 respectively, work fine still. My main site, which is my main source of income has 4,500 products. I cannot edit or save products (which is where Store Manager comes in). The search indexing does not work. CSV product import will not work. Database backups always time out. There are frequent errors with Payment gateways. Every recommended update usually causes new problems. All this despite the fact that I am using the default template and have made no code changes. Support is absolutely zero. My problems have been well discussed on the forums for over two years and are common. The programmers do nothing. I am not a programmer. I have spent over $2000 on programming help over the last two years just to keep my site running - and Prestashop is supposed to be "Open Source" and free. I would highly recommend Prestashop if you have few products, but I would say that if you start to go over 2000 then in my experience it simply does not work. The programmers are too busy making add ons which they make money on, than getting the basic shell to work. Transferring to another cart now would be a nightmare, largely because of the huge number of product photos, I think about 30,000 now.
