BigCommerce Review by Cloudswave

Every company should have a website.

The problem is actually building that website and ensuring it meets your expectations. You could spend a lot of money hiring a web designer to handle the heavy lifting, but then you’ll probably also need help to run it in the future.
Something like WordPress makes it easy for anyone to build a site, but if you have big ambitions for your eCommerce solution, you’ll definitely be lacking in functionality.

Fortunately, there’s BigCommerce.

This software’s name really says it all. If you want an eCommerce site, minus the headache and don’t want to sacrifice revenues, join countless companies around the world that have used BigCommerce to do the same.
Be sure to read this piece all the way to the end, because Cloudswave has a BigCommerce coupon that we’re sure you’ll be interested in.

Create Your Site

No two eCommerce sites should really be the same. Even if, your company and the other offers the same exact products or services, you probably have some ideas about how to differentiate yourself from the competition, right
Unlike so many other solutions out there, BigCommerce isn’t a cookie-cutter, one-size-fits-all application. You’ll find that with a lot of other products, you can customize the text on a template and little else. With BigCommerce, you can create a store, you’ll be proud to stand by.

Nail the Storefront

Whether we’re talking about the real world or the digital realm, it goes without saying that businesses should do everything they can to make the best possible storefront. First impressions are always vital to beginning a relationship, after all.
As we covered above, BigCommerce is all about customization, so you can rest assured there are all kinds of themes available for creating a beautiful storefront. Even after applying a theme, though, you have a number of options for making your website’s interface stand out from all the rest. No one, not even those in your industry using BigCommerce, will have a site that looks like yours.
This company is so dedicated to helping you get a custom look that matches the one you have in your head, they’ll even provide you with a list of eCommerce designers you can choose from for extra help at an affordable price.

Create Compelling Content

Even though your store may look plenty flashy, if customers can’t get the information they want about your company and its product line, expect most of them to head elsewhere.
While BigCommerce won’t supply the content (you probably want to handle that in-house anyway), what the company does do is give you all the space to supply compelling copy.
From an About Us page to banners to contact forms and anything else you may want, your eCommerce site will have no problem communicating important information to your market with this platform. You also remain in control of it this way as well, so you can make changes to your content whenever you please.

Manage Your Inventory

No matter what line of work you’re in, your company is going to have an inventory that continually needs to be updated. Maybe you just have to change a price or two (you could be running a sale) or you have a product that’s no longer for sale.
Whatever the case, BigCommerce makes this little more than a point-and-click procedure. You’ll actually feel bad for those competitors who still have to call up their web developer to manually make these changes for them. That comes at a price too.
BigCommerce allows you to add high-resolution images of your products, manipulate the pricing, upload videos, create features and options, and so much more. You can add categories as well, so customers will have an easier time finding exactly what they’re looking for on your site. Best of all, it only takes a matter of seconds. When the market shifts, you want to react and this platform will allow you to do so.

Accept Payments

Obviously, none of this would matter much if, at the end of the day, your company wasn’t making money. In order to do this, your eCommerce site needs to support a payment gateway like PayPal.
This definitely isn’t a problem with BigCommerce. Aside from PayPal, it also supports popular options like Square, Stripe and many others. These gateways come pre-integrated, so you don’t have to worry about lag time existing between the moment your site is ready and the time you can start profiting from it.
Why choose just one gateway though? Even though PayPal has been king for over a decade, you may find your market is becoming more diverse with their preferences. BigCommerce allows you to choose a number of gateways and make them all available for your customers to choose from.

Take Control of Shipping

After the sale is over and you have accepted your customer’s payment, there’s still the matter of actually shipping the product out. This is often a contentious part of the sales funnel for all involved.
Your customers need to know how much their product will actually cost once shipping is added in. Your company doesn’t want to lose customers with this kind of surprise after the sale is over and they also have to worry about the product actually showing up (something you could get blamed for, despite it not being your fault).
Using BigCommerce means you can customize the entire shipping process from your company’s perspective. With just a few clicks, you’ll tell the software where your shipping center is located, the locations your company will ship to and the methods you’ll use for different areas. The layout for this option is set up so that you can quickly get a view of the entire arrangement and make changes within seconds.
Your customers will love the fact that they can get updated rates to reflect real-time prices from USPS, UPS, FedEx, Royal Mail, Australia Post, Canada Post, Intershipper and more. These quotes can also be adjusted to add on any rates unique to your company as well.
Notice you’re losing customers when it comes to shipping expenses? Create promotions to help lower the price and entice more visitors to go through with the purchase.
If your company could benefit from printing labels, you can do so with BigCommerce. Print shipping labels from the software’s control panel through an Endicia account at no extra charge. This is a real lifesaver for small businesses that would otherwise require trip after trip to the post office and all the delays that go right along with it.

Harness the Power of Drop-shipping and Fulfillment

This software was designed to work seamlessly with popular order processing and fulfillment platforms like Doba, Ordoro and Shipwire. Once you have this connection setup, you can begin automating a large swath of your ecommerce solution, freeing up your people for more important tasks and saving you money.

Get a Handle on Taxes

Taxes can be a real burden to deal with it. They’re not exactly easy to apply, yet you’ll be in a lot of trouble if your company drops the ball here. It only gets more difficult for those companies with international locations and/or customers.
The team behind BigCommerce understands this, which is why their platform allows you to automate the taxes for any states within the U.S. National and regional taxes can be accommodated for other countries as well. You can apply product-based and customer-based tax rules too, including wholesale transactions. If you like, you can also exclude taxes on products.

Show Multiple Currencies

If you have an international market, it only makes sense that you’d have visitors from around the globe on your eCommerce site. You could stand to lose a lot of them, though, if your online store doesn’t support multiple currencies from all over the world.
With the help of BigCommerce, you don’t have to handle the exchange rates yourself. Instead, the software will handle this on your behalf. Just pick the countries you want to service and BigCommerce will do the rest.

Perfect for Businesses of Any Size

All these features may make it seem as though BigCommerce is a platform that really only makes sense for big companies. After all, “big” is right in its name. It’s certainly true that BigCommerce has a number of large clients out there. Some make tens of millions of dollars every year.
Others, though, only bring in a few hundred. With all kinds of industries represented by companies across 65 different countries, you can bet there are at least a few that are a lot like yours.
The point is that BigCommerce isn’t just for huge enterprises. In fact, a small business could probably enjoy some very sizable benefits by bringing in the help of this platform. It could be the asset necessary to go up against much larger competitors.

Get Noticed

Although these are some great features so far, they won’t do you any good if customers can’t find your site. That’s why BigCommerce isn’t just about converting visitors into consumers. This platform is also about catching the market’s attention in the first place, so you have plenty of visitors to sell to.
As you’d probably expect, this means getting help with keywords, meta tags, custom URLs, SEO-friendly themes and links that search engines love. There are also all kinds of promotions and coupons to create a sense of urgency in your visitors and gratitude when they realize some great savings. Whether you prefer coupon codes, gift certificates or offers of free shipping, Big Commerce can help with all this and more.
Despite what many think, email marketing is still alive and well. If it wasn’t, software like MailChimp wouldn’t be so popular all over the world. Those who are already using MailChimp, include email or Constant Contact will love the fact that these powerful tools can be synced with BigCommerce.
This software’s no slouch when it comes to emailing though. BigCommerce can be used to automate emails to customers based on what they purchased. If your company sells shoes, you can shoot them an email after they bought a pair to see if they need socks, laces or cleaning supplies. With upselling strategies like that, you’re bound to bring in more business.
You could also automate emails so they’re sent out around the holidays or various events that may be tied to your industry. Even if you don’t land purchases, these emails can help build traffic.
BigCommerce will even automate the laborious process of compiling lists of customers based on their purchases, the total products they ordered, when they bought from you, the country they’re from and much more. Now you’ll have an easy time crafting a unique message for each of these categories to help bring in more sales.

Shopify Review by Cloudswave

If your company lacks an eCommerce solution or you’re simply not impressed with its current version, you need to make it a priority to find something new. The good news is that there are more eCommerce platforms today than ever before, representing countless options for your company to take advantage of. Unfortunately, this could mean you have a lot of work ahead of you in terms of finding the right one. Make a mistake here and you’ll be back to square one with less money to show for it. Start your search with Shopify, though, and chances are you won’t feel the need to look much further. It’s one of the most popular eCommerce platforms in the world for good reason. Let’s look at some of its more prominent features now. Read all the way through, too, so you can learn about a great Shopify deal Cloudswave is currently offering.

A True Turnkey Solution

One really great thing about Shopify, as you’re about to see in detail, is that it offers a complete turnkey solution. You don’t have to worry that, after paying for Shopify, you now need to go out and find eight other platforms to complete the package. While some companies may decide to invest in complementary software, this is by no means mandatory. Plenty of businesses use only Shopify for their eCommerce needs and see incredible results. All you have to do is bring the actual products and services, the business knowledge and content to the table. Shopify can basically do everything else.

Speed and Security Included

Right off the bat, let’s look at two features that help Shopify stand out from other turnkey options in the market: speed and security. Now, many of you may think this isn’t something you should have to pay for. After all, don’t you already get charged by your hosting company for these things? Yes, you most likely do. However, it’s unlikely that either is as good as it could be, which is where Shopify can help. Did you know that many studies have shown that visitors to your site who have to wait more than four seconds for a page to load will most likely leave? Obviously, that means a lot of them are leaving after three seconds. Every tenth of a second matters in the world of eCommerce, which is why you should put Shopify to work in this department. On top of that, your eCommerce site needs to do things a lot of other sites don’t, like process credit cards. That can slow down your site more than you would ever want if for no other reason than you have to make sure this information is handled in a secure manner. Should even one person get their data compromised, you can expect that your business is going to take a huge hit. Some companies never actually recover from that kind of an event. If your site is found to be out of compliance with PCI standards, it won’t actually take a hacker to ruin your business. Some organizations make the mistake of thinking that third-party vendors are the way to go. Make no mistake about it, vendors like PayPal and Google Wallet didn’t achieve their reputation without being great at processing payments. However, you can do a lot better. With Shopify, you have true pros dedicated to this side of your business. They’ll take care of compliance, caching, defending against hackers and a whole range of other issues that matter when you have an eCommerce site.

Inventory Management

Hopefully, knowing the people at Shopify are handling your security and keeping your site screaming fast is a big relief. That doesn’t mean your site will automatically be a success though. For one thing, you need great products. They won’t be enough, however, if you don’t properly display them for your customers. Once again, here’s where Shopify won’t disappoint. The platform is tremendous at allowing you to display your products in a number of different ways. You can use high-resolution images to make sure your customers see them crystal-clear at every angle as well. There also won’t be any issues with altering your inventory. Whether you want to take an item off the store, add a new one to your inventory, change the price, change the picture, alter the description or just about anything else, this platform has you covered. No matter what market you’re targeting, it probably moves too fast to put up with any unnecessary delays. It’s important you can react quickly whenever necessary.

Tremendous Customer Support

Another area where Shopify really shines is customer support. It can’t be said enough that this is very user-friendly software. Still, it’s best to anticipate that you’ll probably have issues at some point. When this happens, you want to know that helpful people are just a phone call away. That’s exactly what you’ll get with Shopify. In fact, the customer service provided by Shopify is why more and more people are switching from pairing WordPress with an eCommerce solution and just going with this turnkey option. This should be especially attractive to those of you who are running a small business. You most likely don’t have an IT team to turn to when something goes wrong. Furthermore, being a small business means you most likely can’t afford a problem that shuts down your revenue stream for even a day. For any non-emergency issues, the platform comes with a FAQ section that will probably contain most of the answers you want. There’s also email and a chat component for questions that aren’t urgent. Whether you need help running your store or you’re a web developer who needs someone to point them in the right direction, you’ll find that Shopify’s reputation for amazing customer support is well deserved. Even if everything else the company offered was just average, the service factor would justify your subscription.

Marketing

It should go without saying that your eCommerce site needs to have some great marketing regardless of what you sell. If you’re in a saturated market, you have a number of competitors trying to take your business. If you’re in a niche market, you can’t afford to lose a single customer. Luckily, another area where Shopify really does a great job is online marketing. It will become abundantly clear that the people behind Shopify’s marketing tools actually have real world experience. In fact, a lot of people have signed up for Shopify simply to get their hands on the toolbox they offer. Besides the ones you’ll get with the main package, the company also has a number of other ones on the App Marketplace. This is great because it means you’ll get some amazing resources for drawing attention no matter what. However, if you feel it would be worth it to spend a bit more for a specific goal, there are other assets out there. To be clear, the basics offered by Shopify will be more than enough to put your site on the map. They didn’t treat these basic tools like throwaways they had to include. Instead, each and everyone is obviously the product of a lot of care and hard work. One marketing component that has set Shopify apart and also contributed to much of its popularity is the ability it gives you to create effortless landing pages. Those of you who only have one product to offer or don’t have the resources to support a website with multiple pages should really look into landing pages. If you like the idea, you’ll love what Shopify can do with them. For things like email marketing and AdWords, Shopify has you covered as well. You’ll have a number of options for customizing either campaign and adjusting as necessary going forward.

Search Engine Optimization

SEO is a type of marketing, but it deserves its own section here. That’s because the team behind Shopify has done a real service for its customers by handling their sites’ SEO code for them. Their code is crawlable and clean. Once again, this is a huge benefit for those medium- and small-businesses that probably don’t have their own coder on staff. Outsourcing this job can be expensive and risky. Not doing it correctly can be the same. There’s still plenty of room for custom input though. From meta descriptions to title tags, the platform allows you spaces to make sure that the SEO code is giving search engines unique descriptions of your site. This software will even help with your copy by checking for duplicate content, something no search engine will reward you for. Other essential functions like Sitemaps and webmaster tools are covered too.

Design

No one wants their eCommerce website to look like it came off the shelf. Cookie-cutter solutions usually mean cookie-cutter results which render your website virtually useless if competitors are doing the exact same thing as you are. This is one reason so many people have flocked to WordPress. It offers endless possibilities as far as design goes (though it lacks in other areas). You have to give Shopify’s team credit for not dropping the ball here. With all their other amazing features, they could have easily produced a lackluster design element and probably have gotten away with it. Instead, they knocked it out of the park. Out of the box, Shopify has some great designs you could implement immediately. That being said, you can also improve on any design available without having to put in hours of painstaking work. As soon as you purchase your package, you’ll have a number of different themes to choose from for free. If you don’t see anything you like, check their marketplace for even more options. Some of you may still not be happy with what you find. Your business may be especially unique or it might be that you have a very specific idea in your head you’d love to see online. In that case, you’ll be glad to know that all of these Shopify themes can be customized by a designer or developer to create a 100% original shop.

Add-ons

Speaking of the ability to customize your site, Shopify has a library full of add-ons for this purpose. Obviously, no platform could ever accommodate every single feature a store owner could possibly want. This is why, just like Apple, Android and Facebook, Shopify has its very own app store. Developers all over the world are constantly working on new apps to offer customers like you. There are whole communities of developers based on this product alone. Shopify has provided the world with its platform and core functionality, allowing these developers to do the rest. While you’ll definitely need to pay for many of them, there are plenty of free apps too (MailChimp’s The Chimpfield app is a great example of a free option that is absolutely amazing). With so many apps already available, you probably won’t need the help of a developer to build the features you want for your store. Just go to the app store and there will most likely be one waiting for you.

Overall it's a pretty good ecommerce store and I've done a lot of sales through there. Yes, there are occasionally some glitches in technology and the themes seem a bit out-dated, but overall the pros far outweigh the cons. This is because it is easy to use when it comes to handling sales, shipping, taxes, and customizing the theme. I also like how you can add all of your products in here, then export them to Google Shopping, Ebay, and other online stores. So, great software!

Pros :

Nice set of features, easy to use, great for handling sales

Cons :

Occasional glitches, lack of themes

This is one of the rare bits of software I'd give a 10 rating to and be fully comfortable doing so. Shopify is a must have for any engaging in e-commerce and who wants a professional website without blowing the budget on a software designer or web development firm. The software is so user-friendly and straight forward that anyone with even minimal (arguably zero) experience level in web design can create a website that any company would be proud of and eager to send their customers to.

Pros :

  • The vast amount of tools and features available to you with your Shopify license is astounding. There is no way you will find yourself lacking the tools you need to create an outstanding website unless you have such a robust need that you should be hiring this work out anyway (you can even have Shopify create for you if you contract their team separately). This software could service small startup and entrepreneurial clients all the way to Fortune 500 companies with their capabilities.
  • The biggest pro period is the customer service... You can literally contact support 24.7, and you will always receive a fully engaged and knowledgeable support staff team member who takes the time to understand your issue and works with you until the issue is resolved and you are satisfied. I can't stress quite enough how true this is, and implore you to realize how valuable this when you are creating something as important as your website to be the platform for your entire online business.
  • Mobile Support is awesome too, ensuring your customers who are primarily mobile phone or tablet users have a great experience, and they will!

Cons :

  • The only con that I've found in this software is that it is not free, and obviously, that is unrealistic and idealistic. I would, however, gladly pay the relatively low cost of the software for the fact the value of what you get in return is so wonderful.

After using Ecwid for over 6 months, I can not recommend this product for someone who is serious about eCommerce and has a large product base and potentially will be doing drop shipping or need to ship from different source locations. There are some serious features missing in Ecwid that, had I known they were missing, I would have not chosen their option. What drew me towards their option was what appeared to be ease of use and that I could integrate my shopping cart with my current web design and hosting choices. But, I would again sacrifice that flexibility if I knew that simple import and exporting of products and categories would be so difficult and limited, that I could not do things like alter an invoice after an order is placed (which is a real problem for many people - that is really basic feature in my opinion) and have the option to create multiple shipping sources which is also missing for Ecwid. Also, while their team seems to be good at responding to questions, regarding development of their product, it seems they are stuck and in a holding pattern. Meaning, no new updates have happened as far as I can tell and in the back end of things current customers have been asking and voting on certain feature FOR YEARS that have still NOT been implemented even though the Ecwid team shows the status of the feature as being "In Progress". So, I again wish I could turn back the clock as I am stuck with this shopping cart for the time being unless I go through a whole lot of work to start all over again from scratch. If I were to do it all over again, for my needs, I would choose 3dcart as their system is way more sophisticated and has a lot more capability than Ecwid. Honestly, Ecwid MIGHT be a good option for a small store without a lot of product variations and categories, ships from one location, and will never need to alter an order once it is placed. Hope this helps for anyone out there searching for a shopping cart solution.

To put it simply, Ecwid is one heck of a nice product. For this review, it integrated seamlessly with my test website and set up was generally pretty easy. I think it fits the bill quite nicely for users who want an easy to use store without having to redo all the work they’ve already done to create their websites. With Ecwid, adding a store is simply easy.

BigCommerce is one of the best all-round online store builders I’ve tested. Above all else, it is incredibly easy to use – it’s probably the most user friendly store builder I’ve come across to date, with some excellent marketing functionality (not least its abandoned cart saver tool). The main down side is price: although its starter plan is very comprehensive and represents very good value for any retailers who wish to sell a large number of products, there are cheaper options available elsewhere for those who wish to sell just a few.

PayLoadz has received plenty of praise from users. Everything is so easy to set up and it only takes a couple of minutes to set up the shopping cart. I also think that the service gives you such a huge advantage by allowing you to tap into their marketplace which they are constantly expanding. If you are planning on selling digital products or already are selling them on sites on Clickbank, I highly recommend you open an account on PayLoadz.

A Shopify store is going to be aesthetically very pleasing, rich with relevant features, and best of all, amazingly easy to create. Shopify is hands-down the most user-friendly premium ecommerce platform, but is not ideal for large businesses with massive inventories. Shopify offers an aesthetically beautiful and extremely easy to use experience for small-medium size businesses.
