MerchantPlus operates the NaviGate payment gateway, an effective and easy-to-implement payment processing service for online merchants and eCommerce businesses. If you’re planning to take your business online, MerchantPlus offers comprehensive credit card processing solutions that will integrate with most shopping cart software. The merchant services provider is particularly appealing to those new to accepting credit cards online—the support staff is helpful and they disclose all fees and contract agreements.
MerchantPlus’s proprietary NaviGate payment gateway is included free with all eCommerce-oriented packages. It integrates with accounting software and typical web stores. It is also fully PCI compliant. Merchants are not obligated to use NaviGate and can use Authorize.Net for an additional fee of $9.95 per month.
NaviGate works with a number of shopping carts and also includes an Authorize.Net emulator so you can configure it to work with an even larger number of shopping carts and payment forms. MerchantPlus won’t design your website for you, but the all-in-one packages require minimal hands-on programming. There are automatically recurring billing options. Many other merchant account services offer recurring billing plans, but they charge a monthly fee. With MerchantPlus, it’s included in the package.
All MerchantPlus payment processing packages are in compliance with the PCI DSS (Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard) and there is a partnership with McAfee to provide affordable certification for your site. At $19 per year with one year free, it’s hard to imagine finding a cheaper means of getting a security certificate.
NaviGate provides all the flexibility, security and accounting features we expect from more well-known services. The virtual terminal supports multiple users and audits processed transactions. NaviGate doesn’t have the same handy integration with QuickBooks, so you might consider using Authorize.Net.
MerchantPlus also offers merchant accounts to international and high-risk businesses. Fees for such businesses vary and take up to seven days to get set up.
Setting up a merchant account and taking your business online for the first time is intimidating because it exposes you to unscrupulous providers that hide restricting terms and conditions in contracts and drop off the face of the earth after you’re locked in. MerchantPlus understands this and responds with transparency and accessibility. The terms of the service are listed plainly on the site, and the support staff is reachable via telephone, email or live chat.

With reasonable fees, transparent contract terms and compatibility with typical shopping carts, MerchantPlus is a good payment gateway provider for businesses venturing online. The virtual terminal can handle automated online transactions as well as manually entered credit card numbers.
Phillip Parker, on CardPaymentOptions.com
MerchantPlus rates as an average merchant account provider according to our rating system. The company’s use of iPayment as its credit card processor appears to be responsible for the bulk of its complaints, and the BBB has dramatically lowered its grade for the company in the last year. The company’s overall rating could improve once it corrects the issues shown on its BBB profile and elsewhere.
