About Django

Django's primary goal is to ease the creation of complex, database-driven websites. Django emphasizes reusability and "pluggability" of components, rapid development, and the principle of don't repeat yourself. Python is used throughout, even for settings, files, and data models. Django also provides an optional administrative create, read, update and delete interface that is generated dynamically through introspection and configured via admin models.

Some well-known sites that use Django include Pinterest, Instagram, Mozilla, The Washington Times, Disqus, and the Public Broadcasting Service.

Excellent web framework, with lots of out-of-the-box features. Django is the most popular Python web framework, and uses the Model-View-Controller pattern. It handles many of the common tasks associated with setting up a "non-trivial" database-driven website, such as authentication, translation, security, database interactions, form validation, etc.
It is very quick to get a project up and running, and generally fast development time after that. The ORM supports handling connections to 4 different databases. If you have changed your opinion on the structure of the database, it is easy to run migrations to alter database tables. Lots of good customer stories who have built high traffic, well-established websites. From my experience Django scales well, is very fast, dependable and secure.

The documentation is excellent and is kept up-to-date and lots of useful resources (tutorials online, books, videos). Many helpful community developers. Much ongoing development to bring Django forward.

    Pros :

    • -Many excellent add-on packages (such as Django REST Framework and Django Debug Toolbar) to add extra functionality, which is easy to include in your project.
    • The built-in admin is really useful for CRUD operations on model items .
    • Good tools for unit testing and integration testing, especially of APIs.
    • Certainly recently, upgrading Django has been a breeze. There are more built-in warnings about what features will be deprecated in the next release and a clear deprecation process.

    Cons :

    • Setup needs a little bit of time to be to be understood due to a bunch of potential features in multiple files. Starting off this can be intimidating, but it is a positive as the project grows.
    • I think they need to be more examples in the document on how to create Single Page Applications with JavaScript, as much of the web is going this direction. There is ongoing work on WebSockets integration with "Django-channels", which is also very welcome.

Django is an amazing Python framework. It's very "pythonist" in every component and it means that you can be sure to use a stable and rich feature set of libraries.

For Python web development, I think that Django is the best choice if you want to build a fast and scalable application. Personally, I used it for a lot of projects, both small and big.

Django is also very focused on web security, so the developer can develop easily secure web applications, even without knowing a lot about web security. This is very useful because it leads the developer to learn a lot of best practices that are separate from the framework.

    Pros :

    • Django it's simple to use and start with. Using Django, you can focus on writing code for your application, not to solve problems relative to standard web development tasks.
    • A great plus is the admin interface, a unique feature that you can find only in Django. I use it in every project and it's so well done that can be completely configured. It will save you a lot of time.
    • Django is well documented and the documentation is well structured, so it isn't difficult to find information. Also, the documentation is available offline in HTML, PDF and ePub format.
    • I think that the ORM of Django is one of the best object-relational mappers I worked with: it is possible to do everything, from simple queries to multiple optimized joins. It is also multi-database.
    • The template layer is very similar to those you can find on another framework, the syntax is shared with Jinja and Twig, so if you are comfortable with these template engines, you'll be confident also with Django's.
    • Django has also a lot of utilities, like and excellent support for I18N, I10N, caching and logging.

    Cons :

    • Django has not a lot of cons. Probably the main con is that the community isn't friendly and developers are conservatives.
    • The other cons is that, even Django it is simple to develop with, it's not very simple to deploy.
    • The last cons is that to deploy a Django application is necessary to have ssh access to a server, but unfortunately a lot of hosting companies offers only FTP access and ssh is a paid service.
