Prestashop is absolutely a great solution if you want to create an online store or start on eCommerce, I've used it a few times for some stores, and it's easy to implement and use. It has a bunch of customizable options, and you don't need a deep understanding of programming or development to use it which is great. You can manage your templates and almost every important section of the platform, but it's limited if you are not planning to pay for a good template.

Pros :

Here a couple of things that I think Prestashop is doing well:

  • User experience and usability: The platform is simple and easy to use, it doesn't matter if you know about programming or something similar, you will be able to manage your store without major problems.
  • Statistics: Some of the things that I liked more about PrestaShop is that you can see your statistics in your own admin panel (back office), I mean you can see your sells, visits, orders and statistical numbers about it.
  • Manage clients and discounts: One of the things that I like about PrestaShop is the way that you can manage your discounts and clients, you can see which type of clients are the most active and other things that can help you organize your targets and SEO. Also, you can set rules for discounts really easy.
  • Installing Prestashop is really easy, I was surprised when I had to set up the whole thing because it was concise and simple, a really good and non-traumatic experience compared to othe

Cons :

Somethings I didn't like about Prestashop when I used it:

  • Finding good templates for free is hard, I wasted a lot of time trying to find a good theme for the page and couldn't find anything good honestly, after a couple of hours and searching I found one, but it was a little buggy. If you want a decent theme, you'll have to pay for it.

PrestaShop is a platform that is overall cheap and extremely flexible IF you have the skills to manage it. After reviewing the PrestaShop platform, we believe it should be a top contender in your comparison and analysis of the best ecommerce platforms only if you have a good understanding of programming knowledge and skills.

I am an Ashop customer, have been for 8 years and have stuck with them though many bad upgrade and reductions in functionality. During the version 4 release back at the beginning of August i decided i had had enough and decided i could no longer stand by and be quite regards the mess that the software and support was in, despite being warned by other customers that Ashop could be quite nasty if stood up to. I didn´?¢t believe it but then on the 19th of September i received the following from Ashop: - ´?¢´?¢´?¢´?¢´?¢´?¢´?¢´?¢´?¢´?¢´?¢´?¢´?¢´?¢´?¢´?¢´?¢´?¢´?¢ Dear Mr Driver NOTICE OF TERMINATION It is with regret that we feel that our mutual working relationship has broken down to such an extent that we have now to give you notice of our intention to terminate our Agreement. Therefore we hereby give 45 days notice that we shall discontinue all of our services with you and your company. This means store# 3710 will be closed by 4th November 2013. Please take this email as statement of the official notice of termination period as stated in our terms and conditions paragraph 6 -6.2 With regards Ashop Commerce XXXXXX ´?¢´?¢´?¢´?¢´?¢´?¢´?¢´?¢´?¢´?¢´?¢´?¢´?¢´?¢´?¢´?¢´?¢´?¢´?¢´?¢´?¢´?¢´?¢´?¢- Seriously folks, if they can do this to a customer of 8 years, who had spent time, energy and money in creating a store that had rank and loyalty, then believe me when i say that they will do this to anybody who dares to question them. I now have to try and move my store to a new platform so that i do not miss the Christmas sales period ´?¢ worst of it is, i cant even download my data from Ashop because it is still failing ´?¢ as it has been since the August upgrade to version 4.

I have three stores now with Prestashop, which I have been using for over six years. I would say that the older versions worked perfectly well and I had no problems. I would have given 5 stars in all areas. (I am talking version 1.6.0.9 or thereabouts) Unwittingly "upgrading" to the latest versions, I'm now on 1.6.0.14, has rendered Prestashop almost unworkable. It only works now for me thanks to the brilliant paid add-on Store Manager. My two sites with fewer products - 20 and 1200 respectively, work fine still. My main site, which is my main source of income has 4,500 products. I cannot edit or save products (which is where Store Manager comes in). The search indexing does not work. CSV product import will not work. Database backups always time out. There are frequent errors with Payment gateways. Every recommended update usually causes new problems. All this despite the fact that I am using the default template and have made no code changes. Support is absolutely zero. My problems have been well discussed on the forums for over two years and are common. The programmers do nothing. I am not a programmer. I have spent over $2000 on programming help over the last two years just to keep my site running - and Prestashop is supposed to be "Open Source" and free. I would highly recommend Prestashop if you have few products, but I would say that if you start to go over 2000 then in my experience it simply does not work. The programmers are too busy making add ons which they make money on, than getting the basic shell to work. Transferring to another cart now would be a nightmare, largely because of the huge number of product photos, I think about 30,000 now.
