    I am fairly new to automated marketing software; though I am glad that Marketo is my first full experience in using this type of software. For our division, I wasn't responsible for selecting or implementing this software. It was already in use when I've joined this division at this company. My first impression of it was; WOW. I have so much to learn. And little by little, I have learned just enough to be effective and understand the value of what this software has to offer. It honestly has incredible capabilities and when fully used to it's potential is probably the best marketing automation software currently available.

    Pros :

    • There isn't much that you cannot do with this software. Our division is merely scratching the surface with how we use it, which is currently to send out e-blasts to various lists we have built; we use it to establish landing pages to connect our marketing campaigns and efforts to our ads; we use it to establish drip campaigns and develop as much of the marketing funnel as we can since we are a B2B business with a sales channel and global distribution partners.
    • You can use this software for so much more, though.
    • Social media efforts; reporting; connecting it to a CRM such as Salesforce; link tracking; and more.
    • Honestly, I've just scratched the surface with knowing what it is capable of and using the software. This level of software is for advanced marketing pros and enterprise businesses - for sure.

    Cons :

    • As mentioned above, I have barely scratched the surface in using this software over the last 2 years.
    • It is a full suite of software and can be quite complicated to operate.
    • The user interface is actually pretty simplistic in nature, but is fairly complex in navigating.
    • Though they have many training classes and offer support specialists just for your account; it does take time to get up to speed on operating this software.
    • Make sure you have blocked out sufficient time to either train or provide training to your team and employees if you plan to implement this software for your company.andnbsp;

    Cirrus Insight has been one of those products that are a great concept but can be a bit finicky at times. I’ll explain. First off, I use Cirrus Insight as a tool that attaches to my Gmail account. Cirrus is then linked to my Salesforce profile so that all my activity can be synchronized and saved. Since Gmail is the primary email provider I use for work, it is a perfect and seamless integration. The Cirrus Insight toolbar appears on the right-hand side of the Gmail inbox and contains valuable information. From the tabs top to bottom, they include: a search bar that allows you to search for any lead, contact or account that is saved in Salesforce. This is a great tool if you need to search for someone/thing quickly without having to navigate away from the screen you’re on. Second, there is a “My Task” tab that lists all Salesforce tasks that have been entered. You can add a task at any time as well as set the filter for how tasks are displayed. By default, I use the “Today Overdue” marker to show me what tasks I need to complete today as well as what tasks I have missed.There is also a “snapshot” tab that gives you a quick look at any person that you are focused on. It will show you what account they are associated with, if there are opportunities in Salesforce that are associated with this individual, and you can also find activity.

    Pros :

    • The feature I think I use most is the email tracking feature. Whenever I am about to send an email, I make sure that Cirrus is going to track the email.
    • The information that it gathers is how many time the email was opened, what time it was opened, if a link was clicked on and what device they used to open the email.
    • This can be helpful in timing follow-up emails.

    Cons :

    • One thing I dislike about this email tracking feature is sometimes there will be a false “email opened” response or Cirrus will fail to track that it was opened altogether.
    • This can be frustrating when trying to time the next set of emails.

    Marketo had a lot of nice features and functionality, but their customer support team was absolutely terrible and was the epitome of "sign and skip" I've ever experienced. Anytime we had an issue whatsoever; we were given the runaround and blame was deflected to a different department within Marketo internally, and the issues persisted at our expense.

    Pros :

    • The ability to nearly automate all of the outbound marketing efforts including email blasts, analytic collection, and review, and tracking prospect activity and behavior within the website was awesome.
    • If implemented correctly and used the right way, these features alone make any subscription worth the cost annually with no hesitation.
    • The ability to have real-time push notifications sent to your email and as a text message when a target prospect was engaging in content on your website was and is invaluable to any organization.
    • When used in conjunction with best practices (not IMMEDIATE contact so as to not freak a prospect out), your contact rates will inevitably rise and conversion rates may as well since you’re among the first to contact the client which has been proven to be a huge factor in edging out competition.

    Cons :

    • The absolute worst customer service team I've ever experienced.
    • They would trash their own employees and throw co-workers under the bus for blame if it meant they could transfer you and didn't have to "deal with you" anymore.
    • We were told several times that issues we had with connecting our CRM (SalesForce) and lead management would be fixed, and they absolutely ignored the problem and our requests to cancel our trial subscription leading them to automatically enroll us in a yearly subscription at the end of the trial and refusing to do anything to waive the fee of this.
    • We have yet to resolve our problems with them, and not amazingly, they are quite responsive now when it comes to their money but ignored our requests for help throughout our entire time with them.

    Not sure why you would ever use a tool like Ion. We used it specifically for our PPC landing pages, but I don't see why you wouldn't just use a tool like Eloqua or Hubspot instead. Building forms in this tool is a total nightmare - good luck if you don't know how to code! The single thing I really liked about the tool was the built in AB testing of landing pages.

    Pros :

    • I really enjoyed the built-in feature for AB testing landing pages.
    • I thought that capability was the greatest feature the product offered.
    • Building landing pages was relatively easy, but not any better than using a tool like Hubspot or Eloqua.
    • I did like the variety of templates it provided to use when creating landing pages, but this was something we paid extra to have developed for us.
    • If you wanted to change the structure of the template on your own, it does require coding skills and it can be very time-consuming.

    Cons :

    • Building forms in this tool is definitely the biggest issue. They don’t make it easy to do by any means. If you want to pass any of the information you receive from the forms you build in Ion Interactive to Salesforce, then you need to map every single field you use. So any field you have in Salesforce that you want to use on a form in Ion will need to be mapped.
    • If you want to create new field to use then, you need to build it in both Ion and Salesforce and map it. If you don’t map each field individually to the system you want to pass the information into then, it won’t be passed over.
    • Passing information from Hubspot to Salesforce is much simpler and doesn’t require the mapping of each individual field.
    • Instead, it uses an API field that syncs the two accounts, so all the fields you use in Salesforce are present in Hubspot. This is not the case for Ion making it very time-consuming.
    • Building and styling forms, in general, is very complicated to do and requires coding.andnbsp;

    ActiveCampaign is a great email marketing tool if you want to save more time in keeping track and sending communication to thousands of customers. You can also give access to your sales staff as many as you want as agents with no extra fees unlike other tools that often charge extra per user.

    Cirrus Insight Use Cases and Deployment ScopeBeing a small business, I wear a lot of hats, and any tool that can streamline activities and save me time at a reasonable cost is highly appreciated and valuable. In working with Cirrus Insight, I appreciate their forward-looking approach to their system as it has had small positive steps (syncing contacts and calendars) and huge leaps (templates integration, follow-up tasks/reminders and integration with custom objects) throughout my experience. It saves me a TON of time and makes my work life much more efficient.

    This is something I would recommend to a company that has a marketing department and needs a way to test landing pages on the fly without interrupting the IT and web development side. Ion makes it clear that this system is built with marketers in mind, not necessarily code-minded people. It's simple and easy to use, but also builds nice code on the back end.
