  • We've been with Intercom since the very early days. We originally signed up for their beta when it was just a tracking tool to find out how many users you had in your app, now it's a full blown CRM with email marketing ability, real-time chat with customers, user segmenting, automatic messaging and so much more. It's essential for our business and we rely on it every hour of every day. Their customer service is also fantastic, as you would expect.

Pros : - Real-time chat with customers - Email marketing and segmenting which helps converts leads - Lowers churn because you can capture and engage users who are dropping off - Very easy to use, with a lovely user interface

Cons : - Can get a little expensive as your users grow - Price is plan is not fixed, so you have to manually remove old users (or visitors to your site) to keep your price plan down or it will rocket without you realizing

  • Intercom Use Cases and Deployment ScopeWhen we started with Intercom we tried to improve our onboarding process, so it was a marketing tool for us in order to connect with users and get them through their trial period. We noticed that the response of our users was very positive and rolled out other things the software offers as well.

Pros : First of all it helps us with navigating our users through our service in order to get them to understand all features (based on their behaviour)It helps us gather feedback and lets us analyze usage of our serviceNow we also use it for support

Cons : Sorting/filtering of auto messages gets hard when your message list is growing

  • What do you like best?

Insights on who is utilizing our app and providing more information from them via social media, etc.

    What do you dislike?

They don't provide enough reporting. They are sitting on a treasure trove of data that I can't tap into.

Intercom is a full-fledged customer relationship management package, which handles the complete lifecycle of customer support, marketing and feedback collection. A number of tools are present throughout this web-based software, which handles customer support and helpdesk operations, as well as customer feedback.andnbsp; The mentality encouraged by Intercom, is to reach out to customers to figure out what is bothering them, and try to assess what could be improved or changed, before they report the respective issue themselves. Intercom is, therefore, an excellent platform for combining helpdesk tools, with feedback gathering tasks, as well as marketing tools to keep in touch with customers and assist in targeted email shots and ad campaigns to existing customers.

Part of Intercom's feature-set is a full-fledged live chat system which can be integrated with most websites.andnbsp; Besides offering the most common live-chat features which most users would expect, it is also possible to set targeted live chat sessions based on users' interactions with the product. They can be based on a number of customizable triggers and events.andnbsp; Similarly, it is also possible to set up targeted email shots, based on events which occur throughout the product. For example, if a user has a full shopping cart and decides to cancel the ordering process, an email can be automatically sent to the customer to figure out what went wrong.andnbsp; This data is extremely vital for improving customer conversions, and there is no better way to obtain it than directly from the customers themselves. Besides automated emails, it is also possible to send email shots and messages to certain customers based on a set of detailed criteria, which is great for targeted marketing.andnbsp; Feedback requests can also be targeted to customers based on their interaction with features or other criteria, similar to the helpdesk and marketing targeted triggers.

While Intercom is an excellent tool, there are a few downsides. First of all, the automated events occurring based on triggers must be used with caution. Most customers do not appreciate being bombarded with automated messages whenever they use certain features.andnbsp; Furthermore, in terms of integration, Intercom can cause a few headaches when setting up, due to a steep learning curve.

    Pros :

    • One stop shop for handling live chat, support and marketing.
    • Targeted live chat based on user interaction with the website.
    • Can send emails to customers based on certain interactions with the product, or certain events.
    • Emails and messages can be sent to customers based on a detailed set of criteria and how they interact with the product.

    Cons :

    • Can be a bit too intrusive if not set up properly.
    • Can be confusing to set up.

First, I thought that Intercom was a way to communicate with your users. Now I'm an Intercom fanatic that believes that Intercom can help SaaS businesses in every stage of the buying cycle. From converting website visitors to retaining users, it can all be achieved with one amazing platform: Intercom!

    Pros :

    • The easy way that on-boarding flow can be set up based on every single interaction that a user had or didn't have with your app.

    Cons :

    • Not really a con, but I think that Intercom can improve even further by providing more reporting functionalities that a SaaS business has to on.
    • All data reported in their platform, so this can surely be used to build such a reporting engine. That would make Intercom a CRM designed for SaaS businesses.
