  • InsideView Use Cases and Deployment ScopeWe use InsideView in our sales and marketing departments. For our sales team, it has been extremely helpful in finding new leads and preparing for prospecting. I use it on a daily basis for keeping our accounts in Salesforce up to date and finding other companies within the family tree of current customers. For our marketing department, it has allowed us to prepare segmented lists that we can send direct mail to.

Pros : Family Tree - This feature has allowed us to update "related" companies in Salesforce. By having this information readily available we can easily call on companies that are "related" to current customers.Sync Feature - You can very quickly sync company data or people with Salesforce.Wrong Info Feature - If you do find a record that is incorrect, you can very easily send them the correct information and when they verify it they always reply back that they have updated the record.

Cons : Family Tree - Currently you have to manually relate companies in Salesforce to get the hierarchy. It would be great if InsideView could do this automatically!Ability to download lists is limited to 2,000 records at a time. I wish this was a higher number.

  • What do you like best?

Super-easy to use, requires no maintenance. gives you a nice overview of the company. Especially like the up-to-date "buzz" section where social media posts are summarized and refreshed frequently

    What do you dislike?

the social media element, while useful, can get overwhelming when looking at a large company - doesn't seem to be much in the way of filtering to remove all the "fluff"

InsideView provides a lot of useful data when trying to prospect specific companies within a certain industry at a defined revenue range. If you're looking for a tool that provides you detailed information on certain companies, this tool is worth investigating.

If you're looking to prospect specific leads within these companies, however, InsideView may not be your best bet. You can keep up-to-date with changes in companies you follow, including leadership changes, new offerings, acquisitions, and partnerships. There is even a section to view Twitter posts from the company you are following or its employees.

    Pros :

    • This tool is an excellent source for company information such as employee count, revenue, headquarters information, and competitors.
    • The Salesforce plugin is very useful as it provides the information in one place, instead having to switch between tabs or windows.
    • The insights are very useful, allowing discussion points with prospects and leads.
    • It is also possible to build a list based on several factors, such as location, employee and revenue size, industry and business types and several others, for both companies and individuals.

    Cons :

    • There are a large amount of contacts that are out-of-date.
    • The contacts also have no direct dials - a VERY crucial piece of information for prospecting and outbound.
    • A large portion of my leads are generated through prospecting and outbound and without direct dials, it makes it more difficult to perform my job effectively.
    • Dialing directly to the prospect can cut a phone call down by as much as 10 mins - avoiding dial trees or being placed on hold.
    • Direct dials also decrease the chances of reaching gatekeepers, improving the chances your prospect will actually receive the message.
    • I have also experienced some of the headquarter numbers provided to be incorrect or just not in service.
    • There have been occasions in which the numbers were for a local branch or a customer service division that is unable to transfer calls.
    • Some of the individuals contact also no longer with the company and have not been for many years.

The tool is impressive with providing company background and linking back to parent companies when a particular branch is a subsidiary, but the contact info for individuals is often VERY outdated, and titles are overall incorrect. This can make a prospecting call take a turn for the worst when you are asking for an individual who ends up having no bearing or relevance to your efforts.

    Pros :

    • Industry information, links to parent companies, and company information at a quick glance can be useful when building a profile for a targeted company or organization.
    • It is also pretty detailed and robust notification system that allows you to stay up-to-date on news regarding the company, mergers, expansions, new facilities, and title changes within the organization, and that can be invaluable to breaking into a new prospect.

    Cons :

    • The data presented is OFTEN times very inaccurate or out of date, even when it shows it was "updated" very recently. I've had the embarrassing "they passed away 5 years ago" answer come up several times when we've attempted contact, and that is a surefire way to kill any rapport or credibility you may have when referencing a particular contact and your "interaction" with them previously.
    • The Interface on the system seems pretty outdated and incredibly bland, and while this is not detrimental to the usage of the product, it definitely doesn't provide the best or most enjoyable experience and can make research seem boring.
