What is Infusionsoft?

Founded in 2001, Infusionsoft is an online service that offers email marketing platform for small businesses with 25 employees or less. The history of the product began from the writing of a script to automate sales leads. This script laid down the basis for the modern service.
Today Infusionsoft offers marketing automation tools, marketing reports, built-in metadata and fields for keywords, drag and drop functionality for editing and publishing landing pages, the web forms, calculation tools, referral program management, sales reports and more. Infusionsoft customers can get professional tools that help to improve the work efficiency, to eliminate redundant work, to apply e-commerce instruments. 
Infusionsoft does not provide free or trial version. Actually it is not possible to see the platform interface anywhere on the official site until you buy the product. But there is good news: you can find a lot of great Infusionsoft tutorials on YouTube and see this SaaS product in action.
Infusionsoft platform is much like online tools for the project management. There are five basic categories: CRM, Marketing, E-Commerce, Admin, and Tools. Each category includes several sections for quick and clear navigation. For example, there are Contacts, Companies, Opportunities, Referral Partners and Visitors sections in the CRM category. Every category has its own reports and settings. Besides, there is My Nav category that can be filled with frequently used tools. It is possible to choose what tools will be shown here. It will save an incredible amount of time as you navigate around in the software.   
There are also some other tricks to make navigation easier. For example, there is integrated search tool through all items, the list of recently viewed items and also favorites list.The Dashboard is one more great way to customize the Infusionsoft experience. There is no need to enter all info about people by hand because there are tools for automatic importing such information into Infusionsoft. Besides, the user has the opportunity to check for duplicate contact records and to merge them if needed. The contacts may be grouped and tagged. This makes sending targeted marketing messages easier.

eCommerce tools

One of the best features of Infusionsoft platform is that you can sell your products, services or subscriptions online right from here. The setup of products and/or services that you plan to sell online using your Infusionsoft application is pretty simple. Shopping cart and order form can be flexibly configured, and it is easy to embed them on the website. There are a lot of payment types available (PayPal and major credit cards are among them) and you can choose all or just some of them. Infusionsoft automatically sends notification to buyers if they use expired cards or have problems with failed charges and overdue balances.
The Infusionsoft modules tightly connected, so if the customer made a purchase from your site, his order history is stored in the contact’s profile. Then you may use this info to send special offers or thanks emails only to selected customers. The promotions can be segmented by any criterion: purchase history, locations, date, events, holidays etc.
There is an integrated referral program which may help in word-of-mouth marketing acceleration. The user is offered to create custom referral program and provide partners with an access to marketing materials stored within the separate panel. And don’t worry about the commissions, because Infusionsoft always keeps track of them.

Campaign Builder

To make the business grow it is important to create successful campaigns. There is a separate module that is designed to build a marketing and sales process from start to finish. Experienced Infusionsoft users say that Campaign Builder is the heart of this platform. E-mails, tasks, contacts can easily be managed with some other tools (many of them are often better than Infusionsoft ones). However in Campaign Builder all modules can be easily tied together and automated. So understanding how the Campaign Builder works indicates that the user is 90% of the way toward getting a great benefit from Infusionsoft.
The campaign builder has a visual, drag & drop interface. The main item here is called the goal. The goal contains all necessary info about events and actions. The main formula of Campaign Builder is “if there was an event X, it is necessary to automatically perform action Y”. The number of events is unlimited. It can be applied tag, filled form, a purchase made on the website etc. When a goal is triggered by its event, the predefined action automatically starts.


Infusionsoft is not the solution for everyone, but it has a clearly defined target audience. It doesn’t offer different plans for small, medium business and for the big corporations as some other do. Infusionsoft is focused on the small business needs instead. Due to this there is nothing superfluous here; just the tools that every small company needs. E-mail marketing, contacts managing, e-commerce and analysis tools are linked together and work as a whole. But first of all Infusionsoft is the platform for online businesses, so if you sell your products through the Web you will get the greatest benefit from the use of it.

  • Infusionsoft is a very comprehensive product with an extremely powerful marketing automation piece.
    If you want to really take advantage of the marketing automation piece you will need to set aside time to get familiar with it and work with your Infusionsoft coaches.
    If you’re not technical and your marketing requirements are complex it’s likely you will have to hire another consultant after the initial training.
    When you get familiar with tools like Infusionsoft you’ll realize that it’s difficult to run an online business without tools like Infusionsoft.

    Pros : It allows small businesses to scale and operate like a big company without the necessary staff that is usually necessary to grow.

  • Infusionsoft Use Cases and Deployment ScopeI use Infusionsoft for clients' businesses. They use it for e-commerce, email marketing and as a database for contacts.

    Pros : Segment contacts- with tagging functionality, allows for advanced segmenting of contacts.Organize email campaigns - can set up more complex email campaigns. Once the campaign is created, it's automated and more organized.Selling products - nicer interface for shopping cart than others. Allows for multiple payment options in the cart.

    Cons : Timers for web forms: Had an instance where we needed to use two different web forms depending on time of day. Since there is no timer, I have to manually swap out the form on the page. :(Easier implementation- Quite a learning curve for clients. There is training, but not as easier to learn as other simpler programs.Too many steps for certain tasks. For instance, when you're editing a template, you can't send an email from the template editing screen. You have to go back, go to contacts, search

    I have been using InfusionSoft for almost 2 years now and compared to all the other comparable systems I have personally used or tried out it is by far the best system available. So much more of a CRM than with many more features it is a very robust system. It includes a fairly easy to set up email drip funnel systems, e-commerce, the ability to apply tags and define lists, creates very intelligent email campaigns and much more. It is not for the faint of heart, but for someone serious about building their business and about marketing. andnbsp; andnbsp;

    Pros :

    • All in one system with plenty of integration's available, the nice thing about that is that considering there are so many options currently available online as services that if you are particularly fond of one service or another, then it is most likely you can integrate with the system, most integrations feed directly into.
    • Easy set up process they walk you through all the basics to get you up and running. Customer support is great to work with.andnbsp;
    • Pricing in comparison it's hard to beat when I compared it to the major competitors.
    • Often times you're faced with having a lot of techs people build out a lot of open sources or pay big prices for licensing fees, but in this case, it is a good compromise of time and resources.andnbsp;

    Cons :

    • Not for the brand new start-ups without motivation, this is a serious system with a serious investment of time and money for businesses who are looking to stay busy with sales.
    • Not for the pure novice or someone wanting to "try out" a CRM system to learn how CRM's work.andnbsp;
    • I'd recommend a lot of time going through all the guides and even hiring a professional InfusionSoft consultant to come in and work with your business to get the most out of it.
    • If possible go through a consultant team before you buy and ask a lot of questions first, some of them will give you a lot more information in how it can relate to your main business operations and marketing and guide you through the setup process to get you up and running much faster to see results sooner. andnbsp;

    The punchline here is eCommerce.andnbsp; I was brought into an organization to learn and run marketing automation for several different websites. After lots of training, practicing, and diving in head first, I thought I had it all figured out and thought it was amazing!andnbsp; However, once it got to building sales pipelines and reports, I learned InfusionSoft is great if you run an eCommerce site and want to build automation around the sales and marketing processes. However, our process involves scheduling a call and manually managing the pipeline due to how InfusionSoft is designed.

    We connect with ScheduleOnce for scheduling, but the nature of our manual sales process really does not work well with InfusionSoft. So essentially we are paying a lot for email marketing and could be better served with a different application. If your business is anything other than eCommerce, I would suggest researching other options because the price you pay for InfusionSoft is much higher than competitors that could likely meet your business needs.

    Pros :

    • From my research, it is clear that InfusionSoft repeatedly boasts one aspect...The best part about InfusionSoft is their campaign builder.
    • The steps involved in building a campaign is very visual and like putting together a logical if / then puzzle.
    • This makes it considerably easy to manage for anyone on the less-technical side to be able to build an automated campaign.
    • I suggest you write down all your processes and develop a naming convention because, without specific organization, InfusionSoft will be very chaotic without your own strategic methods.

    Cons :

    • Training. I was not with this company when they were onboard with InfusionSoft so I missed out on all the initial training and it was difficult in the beginning.
    • I learned the basics through a third-party business that is certified to teach InfusionSoft through instructor-led videos. I watched so many videos and read a lot of help and support articles on the company's website.
    • In the big picture, this helped me build a base knowledge to later add to.
    • A few months of working full time inside InfusionSoft later led me to revamp all my work because I learned new ways to make everything far more organized and a lot more efficient when considering future changes to our business.
    • If you end up purchasing InfusionSoft for your organization, make sure you get the most you can get out of their onboarding process.andnbsp;

    Infusionsoft is a high-end program with a lot of functionality. It has all the options you would want -- for a price. You really need a dedicated and trained Infusionsoft expert to fully take advantage of it.

    Pros :

    • Has all the options needed, so you don't need multiple programs.
    • You can set up a sales funnel.
    • Keep extensive notes on client or connection interaction. This is great for companies with multiple points of contact. For example a coaching company with more than one coach working with clients.

    Cons :

    • The average entrepreneur will need to outsource management to a professional who is specifically trained in Infusionsoft.
    • It is not user friendly.
    • The base subscription is one of the most costly and each additional module increases the price.
    • One of the most costly CRM programs.

    In a large scale picture, Infusionsoft looks like it would be a great solution for a lot of different business types. However, as you dig deeper, it's more of a glorified email platform than a marketing automation platform. The Campaign Builder is a fantastic part of the tool, however, there's no denying that. It's quite easy to use (once you learn the platform) and full of features. The drag-and-drop visual feature is fantastic! You do get the calendar feature and reporting as well, but again, they just aren't up to par with other tools out there. The CRM management is quite extensive, though, and you can get really creative and detailed with how you tag people based on the actions they've taken, which is a solid feature. Infusionsoft can be a good option for a company with a smaller budget, who doesn't want a lot of additional features. The starting price point is fairly decent (although the setup fee can be a deal breaker). There is a lot of tutorials and training available, so be prepared to put in some time to learn the tool.

    Pros :

    • The automation is great for email drip sequences and campaigns, and you can run it over an extended period of time, so it works well for a long promotion.
    • The e-commerce feature is nice and works extremely well.
    • And I do love the tagging contacts feature, very useful. They do have a lot of quick and easy videos you can watch to learn the product as well.
    • the email editor is pretty easy to use (unless you have a lot of design work and HTML coding, then not so much) but it's a really quick process to create and send out a simple email.
    • data clean up is really easy (duplicates and so on)

    Cons :

    • This really isn't a tool for a large business.
    • There are bugs throughout the whole system, and the email design editor can be EXTREMELY hard to work with if you're someone who's looking for more than your basic drag-and-drop.
    • The fact that the emails aren't mobile responsive/friendly in this day and age is a joke.
    • The reporting could use work as well, and I wouldn't make major decisions based on the numbers I get.
    • there's no ability to split test in Infusionsoft, which is a big missing component in my opinion.

    Infusionsoft can do a lot. Email campaigns, tagging people through a marketing cycle, fully customizable CRM, eCommerce and more. They have a strong onboarding process with training to make sure you are successful and a coach that takes you through creating and customizing your first campaign, but unless you have a full-time, dedicated marketing person, you will never use Infusionsoft to its full potential. We ended up buying with our eyes bigger than our time capability and we keep wishing to use more, but no time to invest in getting everything going.

    Pros :

    • The main interface and dashboard are clean and useful.
    • CRM is customizable and easy to use. It integrates with Gmail (through a Chrome extension) and syncs emails to CRM contacts. This extension also shows (in Gmail) recent client interactions and tasks.
    • API is easy to use and connect to external processes, which we use to integrate our clients with our custom social media code.
    • We tag our clients with some custom tags for what they've signed up for and our code is easily able to read this and act appropriately.
    • Web form integration so you can put forms on your website and have the submit button automatically create / trigger tasks in a campaign.
    • Ability to define workflows.

    Cons :

    • Building flows, while improved over the years is still a tedious process and while the visual way to do it looks good during a demo, it a pain the neck in reality.
    • Getting these flows to work just right is a pain, but once they work, it seems fairly flawless, with decent analytics showing who is where in the flow.
    • Setting up individual settings is not in an intuitive spot... every time I need to make a change here, I have to either search around the menu system for a long time or look up the help.
