  • Capturing scrolling windows could be easier, but otherwise Screenpresso proves an easy-to-use screen grab tool with a pack of useful features

  • Screenpresso is an application designed to help you take snapshots and record videos on your computer. Unfortunately, this complex software doesn't come with a help file. Other than that, we strongly recommend it to all users, whether they are novices or experienced.

  • In my search for a good alternative to jing that saved me from the latter’s missing features, I basically assaulted about ten free screen-capturing tools inside out, but only Screenpresso (Windows only) came out trumping all others.

Screenpresso belongs to a new generation of applications for screenshots creating. Its main difference from the classic apps of this type is the web sharing features. The Screenpresso users can save screen shots on the Internet and share them with other people. Using the program one can quickly send screenshots via e-mail, drop them into any application that supports images, post on Twitter, Twitpic, FTP, Flickr, Facebook, Google Drive, Dropbox, and Evernote. It is enough to specify third party account info in the Screenpresso settings once, and the program will then be sending the screenshots to these services with one click. It is worth mentioning that in the free version, all sent videos are automatically watermarked. There are some other limitations also. For example the video capture is available only for 15 seconds, the vector files could be edited only once. There are a lot of capture options available. The user can capture the selected area (you can select both active and passive box), the entire screen, scrolling Windows. Screenpresso has multi-monitor support, can automatically copy the screenshot or its data into the clipboard. Screenpresso provides a set of simple tools for quick editing and enhancement of pictures. Working with the onboard editor, one can wipe sensitive information on the screenshot, add an arrow, callout, text, add drop shadow effect or the selected background color. The program supports transparent windows capture in Windows with the correct treatment of angles. Screenpresso also allows to record screen video. There are many options for video saving. MP4, WebM, WMV, OGG formats are available. HTML5 export is also possible.

    Pros :

    • Can be used as a portable, no need to install.
    • Image tray that may be used for quick and direct access to the previous screenshots.
    • Built-in image annotation tools.

    Cons :

    • There is no delay before capture option.
    • The pop-up ad in the free version.

I use to play with Screenpresso a lot, but I don’t anymore. I was using the free personal version, receiving the annoying popup asking to go Pro, while updating my blog tutorials or school work. By the time, the features were basic, but was improving every day. When I started using it at the Office, I had to make a choice between purchasing Screenpresso or going with something else. I did a product comparison chart, trying and reviewing features, in real scenarios. The major reason I did not keep Screenpresso is the fact it is only working on Windows. I have many computers, from home to office, PC and Mac, and don’t want to use much different software regarding the OS. I like to keep searching until I find an option that will cover home and office, Mac and PC. Like the competition, Screenpress offers static and video capture, including a rich editor where you can highlight, erase, or point stuff.

Nothing better than a screenshot with comments in a tooltip than a screenshot, with an underneath comment. It also integrates with many different sharing platforms like Google Drive and Dropbox. You can take a snapshot and paste the google drive link in a chat window or email in seconds, only have to wait for the upload without having to do manual clicks. The pricing is the killer, for 30$ you can have a perpetual license, compare to 60$ for the one I’m using now, half the price. At this time, Screenpresso supports 19 languages and run on all Windows versions, including Windows 10. There is a portable version that you can have on your USB key, may be useful if you change computers very often.

    Pros :

    • Lot of integration to share your captures (13 online service at this time) Editor is pretty advanced.
    • Many screen capture options.

    Cons :

    • The free version has annoying popup.
    • It does not run on Mac
