About Proto.io

Proto.io provides a mobile prototyping platform that enables you to build fully interactive mobile application prototypes. It allows designers to create mobile app screens, define touch events for each design element on the screen, and apply screen transitions. These characteristics allow you to create high-quality prototypes that will look and work like the real version of the app. In addition, prototypes can be experienced and viewed interactively within the browser as well as on any mobile device i.e. iPad, iPhone, Android or equivalent, creating an incomparable user experience.

Proto.io offers an intuitive drag-and-drop user interface that looks familiar to most of the people that are used to the traditional graphic software, thus making it easier for them to adapt. The prototype editor comes with a multitude of design elements and UI components for prototyping such as tab bars, toolbars, menus, navigation bars, forms, photos, text, and many more.

Proto.io gives you the possibility to share your prototypes with friends, clients, and team members to get instant feedback and collaborate at any time.

How to Get Your Proto.io Free Trial

Founded in 2011 by the Labs Division of SNQ Digital, Proto.io is a prototyping application that enables users and businesses to create prototypes of various latest technologies. These include gaming consoles, airplanes, cars, digital camera interfaces, Smart TVs, and anything with a screen interface.

Subsequently, it proves to be one of the most useful tools available for designers and stylists, as it doesn’t require complex coding. Instead, the platform utilizes a drag and drop user interface that makes it incredibly easy to design a range of unique devices. Do you plan on using Proto.io to create a prototype of your product? If so, follow these simple steps to obtain a free trial.

Step 1:

Protoio Free Trial Step 1

Enter https://proto.io/ in the URL of your browser and explore the website to learn more about the prototyping platform. You can click on the new features, tour, demos, learn, and blog tabs to gain information regarding how the applications work, what features it offers, and how it can be used for creating new and unique products or technologies.

Once done, just go back to the home page and enter your full name, email address, and the account name for your Proto.io ID in the empty boxes provided. Click on the “Start for Free” option to receive a 15-day free trial to explore all of the applications features and benefits.

Step 2:

Protoio Free Trial Step 2

The free trial will only last you for 15 days, which is clearly not enough to create an exceptional prototype with limited features as it is. Subsequently, a better option would be to subscribe for any one of the five pricing options available.

These include Freelance ($29 per month), Startup ($49 per month), Agency ($99 per month), Corporate ($199 per month), and Enterprise (personalized packages). Choose the plan that meets your needs and budget the best and enjoy creating prototypes!

So, now that you are familiar with the steps mentioned above, obtaining a free trial for Proto.io won’t be a problem.

  • Now people are able to make mobile sites and apps animated and much more interesting than they were when they first begun spreading on the market. Now it is possible to add animations, put nice screen transitions and also add a lot more of interactivity to your mobile sites within a blink of an eye. These features are very interesting because not only do they entertain but they are also useful for your site! In case you are wondering where you could easily do these effects then the answer is Proto.io.

  • Proto.io looks like one of the best options available at the moment, it exports working sample apps which then can be run on actual mobile devices. And we found this tool to be useful.

  • Proto.io is full of customizable options so that your prototype can be as realistic as possible. Your prototype will be ready for you stakeholders to view in HTML5 no time! If you are looking for a prototyping tool, look no further than Proto.io.

This is a great tool for someone wanting to layout how a mobile app should look and function. It's easy, intuitive, and reasonably priced.

    Pros :

    • Some people don't like prototyping tools that are web-based because they work in places without a wi-fi connection, but for me, I think this is an advantage.
    • I don't typically work anywhere where I don't have wi-fi.
    • I do too much research into what I'm doing and could be away from Google, so I love the cloud-based aspect to it.
    • I think it makes it easier to save and access and share my work.
    • It's got some great built-in widget libraries for common mobile operating systems, so you can pop those in without having to load third-party libraries to get started. It even includes some starter projects to get you off the ground quickly.
    • My favorite feature is that you can test on the actual device. You just grab their app and load up your prototype, and you can demo the app for yourself or your client.

    Cons :

    • The version control could use a little more love. It doesn't page-level versioning right now - so your only option is the full project backup. This can be annoying when you're fine-tuning one screen, and you only need to revert it instead of the whole project. If you don't like that you need a wi-fi connection to work with it - then that would be a disadvantage for you.

Proto.io is one of the amazing tools in the market to create prototypes which are as close as to the actual mobile as it can be. It has the features to create animation, logic implementation and various interactions. The best thing is one can have a functional prototype similar to the original product in look and feel without the need of any sort of coding. It supports a large number of file types in which you can upload your screens. Also, the prototype once done can be shared using a URL or as a QR code. The prototype is also completely responsive to the screen of the device it is being opened onto. One can also create prototypes for Android wear applications.

    Pros :

Apart from providing a platform to build mobile app prototypes, Proto.io also offers native Android and iOS apps with which one can view their prototype in the best possible manner. This also allows the same prototype to work across platforms and devices. The same prototype can work on both Android and iOS phones and tablets. It offers great amount of control to add interactions to each screen element. Even interactions which are gesture based are supported by Proto.io. The web version allows the reviewers of the prototype to comment on the specific screens which can later be reviewed.

    Cons :

Proto.io is not very intuitive for a new user. Also, it is more helpful if one creates the screens within the Proto.io. People who already have the screens ready with some other tool might have a hard time using Proto.io for prototyping. After uploading the screens, if there is a change in any screen, the changes don’t reflect automatically. So, you have to manually upload the updated screens and possibly clear the browser cache memory for the changes to reflect in the Proto.io. Also, there is no option to sync your screens from an existing cloud storage service. It also lacks version management at a screen level. It provides backup of each saved version but only at the project level rather than a page or a screen level which might be a requirement of a project where several people are working on a large project with a lot of screens.

Found it very useful to create the first prototype of my mobile app before starting to code. Great tool to get organized and shoot for a great UX.

    Pros :

    - Wide array of interactions between screen features, which make the app look real - Pricing is fair and affordable for startups

    Cons :

Can't think of any at the moment

great tool, but need to improve its features, especially for Android, and its preview app because it lags a bit. I'll recommend it anyway, very helpful and exhaustive compared to other platforms.

Great set of tools to create mobile app prototypes providing your with all needed tools to make desired UX and functionality understandable to developers and / or clients. Anyhow, only reason for the missing star, are the lag of tools to better keet notes and documentation like names and descriptions for assets used within the prototype.

Proto.io is a really terrific prototyping tool. I've used many others, and few are are as easy to use, but also offer advanced features and result in great, high quality, interactive prototypes.
