  • Nero's suite has been updated for modern mobile uses, but still includes good old burning and more.

    • PROS

A slew of useful media and disk utilities. Mostly clear interface. Strong, simple video editing. Encodes discs for use on mobile devices. 4K Ultra HD video support.

    • CONS

Somewhat unwieldy mixed bag of software tools. Weak photo editing. Some mobile features didn't work.

  • Nero 2014 Platinum is still the most comprehensive CD, DVD and Blu-ray write, play and edit suite available. However, Nero is trying to follow the trends and remain relevant, in an era of streamed video and movie viewing on small phone screens. It does this pretty successfully; all it really needs is a bit of a tidy up.

  • Overall, Nero Platinum is a re-focused and improved package of multimedia apps and tools, but the price has crept up too.

  • Nero is still one of the most capable of the burning suites, and it fills most users' needs in the creative department (video editing and production, slideshows, etc.), but most improvements in version 2014 are in the usability arena.

    Pros:

Comprehensive disc and multimedia creation features.

    Cons:

    • Launch application doesn't fit the rest of the suite and runs only in full-screen mode.

The Nero 11 multimedia burning suite is as powerful as they come, and friendlier than its predecessors by far, but the new look isn't pervasive.

  • As an experienced video editor, I like the video editing in Nero 11 Platinum much more than I expected to like it. I am impressed with some of the fancier editing creature comforts. On the other hand, I am a bit disappointed by the lack of integration.
