  • Camtasia is arguably best in class for the purpose of screen recording and there is nothing else around that I know of that can compete with it. It is intuitive and most importantly is designed in a way that ensures you can get the best possible recording in the best possible way based on what you want to do with that recording in the end.

  • Camtasia Studio is seen as the greatest programs on the market for screen recording. It’s hard to argue against Camtasia. No Software is able to match the accessibility and ease of use that Camtasia offers.

    Pros :

    Cons :

  • What do you like best?

It helps create professionally polished videos. The striking features are Crop, Stitch and Copy Functionality and helps enhance creativity using Multi-Track Time Line Functionality

    What do you dislike?

It doesn't support importing all types of media files, there are certain restrictions with file types.

Camtasia has been my main tool when I'm recording video tutorials for my youtube channel, it has some great effects, and it's powerful to edit videos and produce them. You realize when you have some time using it that it makes a lot of incredible things that other software can also do but (not for free in the other programs).

    Pros :

Here are a couple of things that I like about Camtasia Studio:

    • Screen Recorder: With this software, you can record your own screen and do a lot of things while doing it, surprisingly the final result is not buggy or lagged at all, is a really good quality video that you can later edit and produce in HD.
    • Effects: Camtasia have some decent effects when you're editing your videos, you can add transitions, callouts (this is like a note), animations and more.
    • Easy to use: I have experience using another video editors like Sony Vegas, and from my personal point of view Camtasia is by far the easiest one to use when it comes to screen recording and editing. you can change the volume of the track, add images to the video, add external videos and more.
    • The final phase is called "produce and share", in this phase Camtasia exports your video in a valid format and ready to be used, the final result always has an impeccable quality as I said before, and it doesn't take too long to export (just sometimes, of course, it depends on the size and effects of the video that you're editing).

    Cons :

    • In all the time that I have been using Camtasia Studio, I've never had an important problem with it, something that happens sometimes is that the videos and the audio get mixed in a wrong way so the audio and the video doesn't match as it should but it normally gets fixed when you check the dimensions of the videos and produce it again.

Camtasia is a great product designed to record live video from your monitor. Imagine that you have a camera pointed on your monitor, all transactions carried out is recorded in video format (audio included), and you can play it back when finished like a normal video. Camtasia is, therefore, an excellent program especially for creating tutorials and demonstration videos.

    Pros :

    • To use it requires no special hardware, it is obviously best to have the microphone and webcam (if you want to include audio and video of you.
    • Just opened, you will see the main screen key features such as Screen Recording, Voice recording, the PowerPoint recording, the ability to import the work already done to change them once saved, on the right you have the recent projects as a shortcut.
    • Camtasia allows you to select the area you want to record from the monitor, it is therefore not compulsory to record in full screen, but you can limit recording to a specific area of your monitors, the area is bordered by red graphic signs shaped angle.
    • You can also record by setting a default width of the recording area to keep the screen resolutions on which to play it.
    • Once you set the recording area, click on the Record button, and you're done.
    • During recording you have available a toolbar that allows you to manage the volume level (if you notice that it is too high or too low), you can pause and resume recording, or stop, or delete the recording.
    • After recording you can work on the entire record, you have a handy timeline on which you can choose to divide it into parts, delete portions of the video that you do not.
    • When you are done, you can export to your preferred format according to the device on which you want to play it.

    Cons :

    • Nothing bad to say about, the software interface is simple to use, efficient, lightweight (though it takes a lot of Rams) and very efficient. But the price is very high.

Camtasia helps you with screen recording and helps you complete the video. You can record right about everything. I have been using it to record video and audio for Online Web Tutorials. This Web tutorial can then be uploaded on YOUTUBE or other such sites, where you can get your customers.

Also, if you want to record an event or series of steps that you are carrying out and want to share with your office colleagues or friends so that at a later stage, they can follow the steps carried out by you by following the Video. Camtasia is exciting and has many features which make recording the screen and maintenance easy. One can make some lessons, tutorials and product demos, which can be used for marketing which in turn helps in getting more customers.

    Pros :

    • One would be working with multiple videos and editing of the same, Camtasia makes managing the files and projects easier.
    • The project contains many files which would be used across the project, with Camtasia software you can edit, delete, copy, etc. the files at ease.
    • Camtasia also has some online tutorials which help one to easily understand the software and helps in editing the videos at ease. In editing one can easily add animations to the slides, crop video clips, add audios, clean up any mistakes, add some music, etc.
    • One can also use speech to text option.
    • A screen recorder that captures exactly what you need every time It helps you record whatever part of your screen one needs.
    • One can capture the entire screen on one's computer or certain regions or windows.

    Cons :

    • Camtasia is one of the most widely used screen capturing tool available in the market. There are not many negatives of the product, as it seems to cover all the features one would expect from screen capturing software.

Camtasia is the greatest video capture software for Mac. It allows you to capture video and audio from your computer screen and gives you powerful tools and settings. When you record video on Mac computers, you can edit clips, add media and create any tutorial, demo or presentation. It gives an easy and powerful way to edit and share videos. The combination of strong recording features and versatile editing tools allows you to shoot and edit your videos quickly. We don't recommend Camtasia for game capture, but it will meet all of your other video capture and editing needs. I would highly recommend this to the friend.

    Pros :

    • Fantastic support by TechSmith - Lots of tutorials for Camtasia Studio, both on the internet and in many colleges and in many companies for many uses.
    • Excellent integration with PowerPoint for quick capture of the audio and video which allow creation of truly indexed presentations usable as online reference material.
    • Professional license is not bound to one PC, though it is a "single user" license.
    • Simple to export entire working session (CAMPROJ all current working files), so easy to move a project to another machine for rendering.

    Cons :

    • Updates can only be made by completely reinstalling.
    • Using a more advanced features of CS8 such as interactive quizzes requires rendering using a custom Adobe Flash output that requires a true file server to host a "folder" created by the CS8 rendering tool.

Much like how you are either a Beatles or a Rolling Stones person, you are either a Captivate or a Camtasia person. They both serve the same function as on-screen capturing tools. One of the new features that has made Camtasia a little more useful and friendly is the free mobile app to record content when you're not at your computer. To my knowledge, that is NOT a feature that is offered with Captivate. It's screen recording is fairly run of the mill; I might give the edge slightly to Captivate there. Some of the video customization features are good, though, and easy to use. It still uses the Flash-style slider with layers and callouts you can add. I like the callouts in Captivate better, but either way, it is good software for technical training and demonstrations.

    Pros :

    • The quality of the screen capture tool is still very good. But the Version 8 iteration of Camtasia is much better in terms of the new video editor. You can now use a multi-track interface to import videos from all kinds of sources, including MP4, MPG, MOV, SWF, WMV, GIF, JPG, BMP, PNG, MP3, WAV, and WMA. They all play together nicely.
    • You can even display multiple video windows in a single screen to all play at once, and you can make batch edits which you couldn't do before.
    • The Canvas is also more user-friendly now, and is more reminiscent of Adobe Storyline where you can manipulate objects right on the canvas, which makes it far more flexible and convenient. It's also easier and more intuitive to create interactive quizzes and polls.
    • The last main pro is the price, which at $299 remains affordable.
      andnbsp; andnbsp;

    Cons :

    • It seems a little simplistic at times, and the callouts are a little cartoony, and while TechSmith says the assets are good, I'm still not crazy about them.

Throughout the years, Camtasia has been the go-to software for creating videos based on screen capturing. It has always been excellent for creating video tutorials, and for demonstration purposes, as well as recording video games for gamers to share. As time passed, Camtasia matured, and is now not only simply a video capturing software application, but also has a very useful video editor, so the same software can be used for screen capturing and also editing the final product, to create a useful screen capture video. Besides the ability to record and capture whatever is present on the screen from a particular point in time, and save the whole footage in the form of a video, Camtasia has some tools and options for manipulating this content. Camtasia has all the usual video editing features similar to Windows Movie Maker, such as splitting and stitching of multiple video files. This is particularly useful since Camtasia allows users to pause and record as they please, which can be done seamlessly while using the computer to accomplish whatever task they may be working on. Besides basic video editing features, Camtasia also has a host of transitions, effects and graphics that can be applied at any point during the video, as well as at any position. It is also possible to add text simultaneously while recording, which can then be edited at a later stage. Once a video has been edited, it can be saved in high definition and a decent amount of video formats such as AVI, MP4, WMV and others. There are also quick-upload tools to get the video hosted on YouTube straight away, similar to Windows Movie Maker. This is especially useful since a large chunk of videos created with Camtasia is for YouTube tutorials. While there are some useful features, the latest versions of Camtasia have unfortunately been riddled with bugs, crashes and stability issues.

    Pros :

    • Ability to record whatever is on the screen.
    • Many tools are available for editing the captured screen content. -
    • Various video output formats are available.
    • Many effects, transitions and animations available.
    • andnbsp;Supports HD video.
    • Ability to highlight cursor, mouse movements, etc.
    • The software allows users to add text as the screen is captured.

    Cons :

    • Crashes are common.
    • Stability issues with Windows 8 and Windows 10.
    • Riddled with bugs.

I use Camtasia for demo videos, explanatory videos and also for client support. With so many projects being computer-based these days, the ability to actually show what's happening on your screen is so important. Having done computer support over the phone many times, it's often impossible to accurately describe what needs to be done in a way that newbies can understand... but anyone can follow a visual example. When offering support for my web apps, my clients are blown away when they get a personalized video with me reviewing their issue, and they can see how I solve it or hear/see the explanation. I use it almost daily.

    Pros :

    • Easy of use.
    • Adding media to the timeline is easy.
    • You can add animations, call-outs, text, transitions... all in a very easy to use manner.
    • Upload integration with YouTube/Vimeo makes publishing super easy. Easy to use green screen, just use the "Remove a color" option in video properties.
    • Decent audio noise cleanup and volume levelling for quiet parts.
    • Built-in library of templates is awesome... it has both built in themes, animations and rights-free audio that can be safely used on YouTube.
    • The ability to record both screen and webcam simultaneously is great.
    • Using green screen, you can overlay your talking head in the bottom corner explaining just like live instruction.

    Cons :

    • Lacks layering of chroma keying for green screen (you can only pick 1 color and then adjust variance).
    • Although there are adjustments for the color removal, without the ability to add color removal in layers for different shades... you really need to get the lighting done very well.
    • Also, older versions did not support the proprietary file format MTS (on some older Canon camcorders), but more recent versions do.
    • Sometimes opening projects made in older versions does not correctly "upgrade" the project to the new format, leaving the old project unusable.

Video tutorials are quite popular in our days. To make one you need to capture the screen, to edit video, to add sound effects, to export it into popular format or share on YouTube. So you need 3 or even 4 apps in total. But don't panic, here is the Camtasia Studio. This is the all-in-one solution for video tutorials creation. Here you will find the great tool for video capture, the timeline based video editor and even the utility for DVD menu creation. Camtasia offers its own TSCC codec. This codec has many advantages over others. For example, it supports image capture at any resolution. TSCC codec also leaves minimum of artifacts and provides the ability to get the quality which is the most approximate to the original video. You can capture the whole screen or just the selected area. You can grab the video only or video with the sound simultaneously. While recording the video you can use some visual effects. For example here is the special marker that can write on the window, as if you were drawing with a real marker on the monitor screen. It can be used to highlight the screen area or to add some notes. To turn the marker while recording just press the keyboard shortcut. Another interesting feature of Camtasia Studio is the selected screen area magnification. Using the shortcut key during the recording you can zoom into the area. These fast visual effects are very handy, because there is no need to add effects later on recorded video using video editing tools. However if you have some time and desire you can experiment with the build-in video editor also.

    Pros :

    • TSCC codec which best suits for video tutorials creation.
    • No limitations on the length of the videos.

    Cons :

    • Constant freezing and crashing while working with the editor.
    • It's better to use just the recorder and take the other video editor.
    • Does not support a digital camera.
