Microsoft Exchange Use Cases and Deployment ScopeMicrosoft Exchange is our choice for our messaging platform. It is utilized by the entire organization (approx 45,000 seats). Microsoft Exchange provides a platform for communication as well as file sharing and collaboration. It also provides calendaring, contact management, task management, and notes management.

Pros : Calendaring - Exchange is great at managing meetings and appointments. It provides the ability to look at attendees' free/busy data so you can effectively plan meetings based on many busy schedules.Web mail interface is easy to navigate and provides users with a rich experience. Many users do not require a fat client.Mobility - Exchange provides the ability to synchronize your mobile devices with your account so you can easily take your mailbox with you.

Cons : Updating the environment can be cumbersome. As your environment grows the amount of time required to patch or update can be challenging.Calendar corruption, we have experienced challenges with calendars staying sync' between mobile devices. Meeting corruption can be difficult to clean up.

  • What do you like best?

Has all the necessary features for most all businesses. Most businesses use it. All my users seem to like it (expect a small few). Easy to use.

    What do you dislike?

We use Exchange Online and one big thing for us is that we wish the Distribution lists were more like mailing lists that have a history and archive to look at past discussions.

    What do you like best?

Have used it briefly and really don't see the need to pay for an additional tool

    What do you dislike?

Cost and need - think this is another MS requirement that we don't need. Freeware is much more functional.

    What do you like best?

This is obviously the standard of service for email and business collaboration tools. Email has become critical in our business and is run by Exchange.

    What do you dislike?

You sometimes have to love what you hate--that's the case with Exchange. It is a bear to administer and requires A LOT of horsepower to run it. We are looking at moving it to a hosted service to make it easier and more available.
