I have to admit, I'm not using Cubby a lot. There is so many competition, that at sometimes, you need to stick to one. Cubby is not very popular, so when you want to share with others, you will get a lot of "I don't have a Cubby account". I know, the answer is "go get one, it's free" but you will receive a "why, I already use ***" So, why Cubby? First, it's by LogMeIn, one of the best cloud company. Second, they give you 1 GB free for each friend you invite, and that's a lot! And Third... you have a real selective sync. Instead of having a root folder, with a subfolder, you create "Cubbies". A Cubby is like a folder. You can share, and sync a Cubby. When you install the desktop client, you will select which Cubby you want to sync. You may want to sync your documents on your personal and professional computer, but maybe sync your personal picture only on your personal computers. Also, maybe your pictures are on your C: drive, but your documents are on your D: drive. With Cubby, you select the Cubby, click sync, and choose the destination folder, for each Cubby. I use it to sync my Outlook signatures, my games save, my apps configurations, etc. You can simply create a Cubby by Dragging and Dropping a folder into Cubby. It may be used to share, or to backup. Unfortunately, storage is pretty expensive. You can have 1 TB for 10$/month from competition while with Cubby, 1 TB will be 40$/month. The Cubby client is pretty big, without a lot of advanced features. They have DirectSync to sync across computers, without the cloud, but only with the paid version. The data is encrypted, and you can add client-side encryption if you really need it!

Pros :

  • Selective Sync Select destinations individually 1 GB for friend invite From LogMeIn.

Cons :

  • Not very popular.
  • The client is ugly.

Egnyte is a highly secure file sync and share service meant for enterprises of all sizes. Egnyte offers on-premise, cloud or hybrid deployment solutions that cater to different needs of different organizations. With hybrid or on-premise deployment, the business never has to worry about the security of their data residing on a cloud server.

Pros :

  • All kind of files can be stored and shared using Egnyte, which includes Office documents, pdf, audio and video files.
  • It also allows uploading files of any size, unlike other players who are a big differentiator.
  • IT administrator has complete control over who sees what and can control access to all the files and from a centralized location.
  • It even allows creating users and groups and setting permissions from the web portal itself.
  • In my opinion, Hybrid deployment option is a great advantage. It helps businesses feel more secure and enjoy the benefits of the cloud as well.
  • Another differentiator for me was that mobile apps are so potent that one can even create and edit documents from the mobile apps rather than just reading the content.
  • The mobile applications are available for less popular platforms like Kindle and Nook, which makes Egnyte completely device agnostic.
  • Every file sharing service allows setting various permissions to shared files and folders, but a unique restriction one can put with Egnyte is on the number of clicks a user is allowed for a particular file.

Cons :

  • Egnyte allows to store and share audio and video files but does not provide the capability to stream the media as well like Hightail.
  • One has to rely on other third party integrations to stream the audio and video files. It does not have a trimmed down version for personal use.
  • Also, a mobile application for Blackberry is missing.
  • One can sync only one folder. There is no option to sync multiple folders at one time.
  • Also, once a folder has been selected for sync with Egnyte, it can’t be changed to another folder unless you uninstall and reinstall the application.
  • There is no provision to manage and prioritize files that are syncing.
  • One can not specify the bandwidth to be used for uploading a particular file.

Soonr is one of the most useful productivity apps we have seen for the iPhone. Some web apps like Syncplicity also let you access your cloud storage, but they can't provide the ease of use and compatibility with a large number of file types in the same way a native application like Soonr can.

I hate beta because it can entice developers to keep their product in a constant state of development (I’m looking at you, Google). Even in Cubby’s beta infancy, I believe it is the first true competitor to make a legitimate run on the cloud syncing crown. LogMeIn has a solid user base and they are known for producing a good product at the right price. If they extend that level of quality and product innovation into an already feature robust Cubby, Google Drive will be the least of Dropbox’s problems.

The simple fact is that Egynte is both powerful, easy to use and has a wide range of access options to suit any business. Given this flexibility and control it's the best online synchronisation service for businesses.
