  • Although its feature set is limited, Skype for Business is quite easy to install and use and can be implemented on a desktop, laptop, and a smartphone. While communications are limited to internet calls and texting, the simplicity and affordability of Skype have won many businesses over.

    Pros :

    Cons :

  • Skype is a great app that has helped me communicate with customers with international telephone numbers and customer service agents for software that I use. The one problem that I have with it is that they will not allow me to create a Skype phone number because I am in the U.S. Virgin Islands despite this being part of the United States. Lastly, I would rather operate the program within my browser instead of having a separate program downloaded.

Pros : Easy to Use Aesthetically Pleasing Intuitive

Cons : Skype phone number creation not available in the U.S. Virgin Islands Downloading a program required

  • Skype, one of the best-known names in VoIP service, offers some of the most affordable rates in the industry and an advanced softphone with video calling capability. If you want home phone service, though, you must purchase a brand-new phone from them.

There are so many awesome functions when using Skype. You can use it for pleasure or work.

One main function I use it for is when I travel, and I can talk to my family anywhere in the world with Wifi! I am able to call them, see them and send messages to them. I guess you can use an iPhone FaceTime feature but in other parts of the world using it on a computer is a much bigger screen and much easier to use.

Skype was of the first tech companies I really fell in love with in this generation. I have only had positive experiences with and this was the first app in my opinion that really took advantage of all the computers and now smartphones that have a webcam built in. I even bought my now wife a webcam back when Skype was really only for a computer so we can use this app with it :)

    Pros :

    • Great dependability.
    • Can call, message, video chats anyone and anywhere with wifi.
    • Can use for both pleasure and work.
    • Skype took over for my companies Microsoft Lync tool that we use for instant messaging.
    • I love the UI and all the cool icons you can use when messaging someone!

    Cons :

    • There are other apps out there that you can do calling or video calling, but Skype has been my consistent favorite probably since the last decade.
    • When I use it for work one pain point for me is I get it on my phone like an instant message and not all messages come through.
    • I really should send this to the customer service or development bug team!
    • When I am using the Skype app for our internal company instant messaging service and someone messages me, and I'm not there to immediately open it then it will go away.
    • Even if I am a few seconds late, and I am open it to get to the instant message box the message is not there anymore, I hope the company reads this!

Skype is a software used and known by everybody (almost), it's a great software to make calls and connect with people by chat, video calls and more. I've been using Skype for a long time, and it has proved to be a robust platform. I think it's a good option to communicate with teams and people, but when it comes to gaming, it's probably not the best choice to go. All the UX and UI is very intuitive and simple which makes it easy to use.

    Pros :

These are some important things about Skype:

    • Calls and video-calls:andnbsp; Skype is probably the most solid platform for calls that exists right now (and also the most popular), it allows you to make calls with a friend or a group of people without any problems.
    • Screen sharing: Like other platforms Skype allows you to share screens with other people but you can only share one screen at the time if you are a free member (like most people), it's important to say that there are other services that offer screen sharing and allows the users to share all the screens of the users for free such as Hangouts on Google so I think this could be a downside for Skype.
    • Popularity and support: Because of its popularity you can be sure that Skype will always receive support/updates and fixes for bugs as soon as possible.

    Cons :

These are a couple of issues that I think Skype can improve:

    • The quality of the calls when your internet is not fast is really bad, I mean, I've used Google Hangouts and other services, all of them find a way to handle slow connections in order to preserve the user experience but Skype can not simply handle slow connections in a good way, it just ends the calls or doesn't allow you to keep a decent call.
    • Memory consumption is ridiculous and the bandwidth used to set up a call could be more efficient (it's not much, by the way, I'm just comparing Skype toother platforms), if you are a gamer you know that latency is an important fact, so I won't recommend you to use Skype while you're playing.

Skype is perhaps the most branded VoIP service and who doesn't hear about it. I know Skype has been out there, and many feel like it has gone out-of-date, but after Microsoft replenished and changed the whole outlook of Skype, there have been notable advances in Skype. I really like how Microsoft is trying to push it and trying to make it once again the great service it was.

Skype has been known for its ability to video-chat, but that has always been more than that. It is highly capable of providing very cheap VoIP services, and the quality is generally of a very high quality. There is a bad side to it that even though you get a real, completely true US number, you can't receive messages through here. But others can always call you by dialing over here. As far as the long-distance or overseas calling is concerned, Skype is the best choice you have not just because it's cheap but also because the quality is beyond par.

Another great thing which I personally enjoy is the ability to call video conference calls and talk with multiple people simultaneously. This is extremely helpful to me, and my company as the lot of us are in different states or even in different countries, at times, and there is a great need to talk to all of us or hold a general meeting, and that's where Skype just tags along. The offer is cheap, and we are not disturbed with any sort of stuttering or slowing down in the background.

SKype also allows unlimited calls and video calls via a subscription and getting that subscription has been one of my best decisions. I got all my friends and family running Skype, so there is no harm done to me.

    Pros :

    • Cheap international calling.
    • The customer support is amazing.
    • Group video chatting.
    • We receive a whole US phone number.

    Cons :

    • Can't receive any messages on the mobile app.

Skype has always been the most used software for VoIP calls. The audio quality is surprising, communications are reliable and above all safe. All chats and VoIP conversations are encrypted by the integrated software. And 'the reference point for the world's communications. It can be installed on all types of mobile devices and operating systems. Rates to call worldwide telephone numbers are very low. It can be purchased a number to be contacted on a specific number.

Even video calls are very reliable, you can communicate via phone or PC anywhere in the world. Often I use it frequently for work, and I have never had any problems.

    Pros :

    • Call quality, especially in the later versions is vastly improved. The codecs are very reliable.
    • The graphical interface of the software is very reliable and easy to use, plugin installed in your browser if facilitating calls. Useful for those who have to make many calls in the same day.
    • The chat is another very useful feature, it is light and especially fast.
    • Skype has a greater spread than other software. It allows you to find a higher number of contacts to be called without having to "come to an agreement" about which client to install, as well as presenting an effective management of group conferences.
    • With Skype communication is easy, even people who can not use the PC well can make calls without problems. The software can also be installed on the console, it has a large diffusion, and the majority of people in the world knows how to use it .

    Cons :

Skype in version desktop and smartphone requires a lot of hardware resources, there are several VoIP programs that are faster and offer the same quality service, competition is very strong in this field. Skype should renew and focus on mobile devices.

Overall, Skype is not a bad product, unlike the title may indicate. Skype works well and has been around for a very long time, pretty much pioneering consumer computer-based VoIP and video calls, building on what Yahoo! Messenger and MSN Messenger and even AOL / AIM had built in terms of Instant Messaging. Fitting too since Microsoft now owns Skype, which is where my Appreciation drops. I don't dislike it just for Microsoft's sake, but more after the buyout and the immediate incorporation of intrusive advertisements within the software and doing a major overhaul of the User Interface, that I personally found unnecessary as it didn't seem to provide any benefit, to fall more online with Microsoft's other products is what made the feel of the program change from the friendly inviting Skype to the typical Microsoft products we all know.

With that said, the software does still work very well, and Microsoft has made actual improvements to the software and it's performance over less than perfect bandwidth situations. It is available for PC, Mac, and Linux, as well as iOS and Android mobile devices allowing you to Instant Message, video call / conference, or even perform actual VoIP calls to physical numbers from nearly any device as long as it has an active data / WiFi / Internet connection. Even the ability to share your screen with others or have them share their screen with you allows for basic computer troubleshooting, or basic collab work with others.

Microsoft's most recent incorporation of Skype ( AKA Skype for Business ) into its Office Suite replacing their Lync messaging software, making programming adjustments truly setting it as it's own but still similar product has been an overall welcome upgrade / addition to the Office Suites.

    Pros :

    • Good Performance across varying hardware specs and bandwidth availability.
    • Easy to user interface.
    • Free account for built in Instant Messaging and Video Calls.
    • Screen sharing.
    • File Transfer.
    • Offline Messaging Cache - message will deliver when both you and the other user(s) are online.

    Cons :

    • "Microsoft Feel" from the UI overhaul.
    • Offline Messages are cached as stated above, not stored on a server for delivery when recipient(s) are online.

Skype is an instant messaging / voice chat program that is moderately easy to use. Taking the place of MSN Messenger, Skype has become one of the most used messages by me and my friends and clients. It's easy to track your messages in the recent tab, and it notifies you of new messages. I often use Skype to have 4-way conversations, and the call quality is always high. On some occasions there will be video chats, the video quality is alright for what it is, and it allows me to demonstrate things without having to pre-record a video file and send it. Skype as a program is pretty straight forward, IMs, Calls, contacts, it's all there. The only times I dislike this program is when they push down mandatory updates, which can cause the program to break, and sometimes it takes weeks for those to get fixed. But at this moment, it is the best instant messaging service.

    Pros :

    • Very easy to make Voice Over IP calls with Skype. Either to an individual or to an entire group of people.
    • Video chat capabilities.
    • Free to use desktop client and mobile app and web browser.
    • You can buy a Skype number in place of a real phone, as well as make calls outside of the States.
    • Instant Messaging is very responsive.
    • You can add "Favorites" and sort your friends' list via types, making it easy to set groups up for work, friends or others.
    • High call quality on par with a Cell phone if not better.

    Cons :

    • Annoying amount of updates that tend to break the software and requires the user to revert to older versions.
    • Ad placements on the software.
    • No theme customization.
    • On the desktop client, Skype can sometimes cause a computer to lose sound or flat out crash.
    • Video call quality is kind of low resolution.

Don't get me wrong, Skype does well for us. But it was much smoother when we were on PCs and not MACs. I know, it seems like most Microsoft programmes are an update or 10 behind in the MAC world vs. PC so one should expect the same from Skype.andnbsp; We use it every day and it does exactly what we need it to do when its up.

    Pros :

    • On the Mac, you can have they "L" for "Skype" bounce to get your attention on the dock when you have a new message.
    • It has a list of your contacts that are online or that are offline. Which helps you know who will get your message when sent.
    • You can do group messaging, send files and images.
    • You can share screens and allow control of your desktop.

    Cons :

    • So why the 6 rating?
    • Sending files and images can be slow and do not always work. Go with something like Dropbox to give everyone access to a file.
    • There doesn't seem to be a different type of alert when someone is trying to share their screen with you. Sure you get a notice, but if you are busy it is easy to let that slip by. To me, if someone needs to share a desktop they need your attention now.
    • On the Mac, the programme "drops" at least 3 times a week. And extra times than not you have to force quit before you can log back in.

      Also, everyone on our team has difficulty saving their contacts and many times after a Skype crash you have to go back out and search for users even though you have saved them to a group. andnbsp;

I use Skype for both personal and work life. Skype professional makes things easier as we can communicate without the need of a telephone, share screen which is very important to me as an image talks more than 1000 words. We can have one to one meetings as well as a department meeting without any issues, its very simple and easy to install and use, it also shows busy status, presenting, etc. which to me is very useful otherwise the rest of the company keeps pinging to say something.

It saves a lot of time and work when you can send or receive meeting requests, a very good sound, and image. Regular Skype is also very good as we can keep in touch with family and friends not like on a phone call but also see them which shortens the distance we are forced to have when living abroad. I used other products before, but Skype is my favorite it shortens the distance, gives the feeling of togetherness when this is not possible. One can be part of important social events such birthdays, Christmas, weddings just connecting and sharing with some others on the other side of the planet when this is physically impossible.

Skype came as a revolution to completely change the way people can communicate when they are not able to be together, sure it doesn't replace the face to face communication but it helps a lot when this is not possible. I see they keep improving the product, making it better as fast as they can, and I hope Skype will keep being improved as in technology not even the sky is the limit. I recommend Skype for work as well as for private use as I mentioned before I tested several similar products but I choose Skype.

    Pros :

    • Good sound and image when the internet broadband is good.
    • Facility to install and use.
    • See and talk with people it doesn't matter how far they are.
    • Product always updated.
    • Free product this is very important.

    Cons :

    • When one or both sides have a poor internet connection the image and sound can be very bad.
    • Some times it freezes on Windows 10 but it seems this is fixed.

I have been using Skype back since the early days. One of the more interesting concepts in technology, but I think myself (and others) often have a love and hate relationship with Skype.andnbsp; It can either save you (no ability to call on a mobile line- jump on Skype to make the call) or punish you (not being able to connect at all).

A great tool if you really dig into it and use the features, especially if you are a road warrior and make a lot of international trips and calls. Whether it is a backup or your main way of calling when you have an internet connection, it is a must-have for business people.

    Pros :

    • Always handy, especially when traveling in emerging countries where mobile or landline international calls can be very expensive.
    • New features always coming out that are quite helpful.
    • The Skype Translator is really interesting- I am really interested to see where this goes and how this advances.
    • If you need to make a ton of international phone calls, Skype is the way to go from a cost perspective- it adds up to a lot of savings over time.
    • The ability to have one account but then access it via your mobile, tablet, or PC is really helpful.
    • Skype video call helps add to the functionality and helps Skype be a bit of a Swiss Army Knife type communication tool.

    Cons :

    • Bandwidth is Skype's curse and often calls will not go through or the voices will be distorted; you are never quite sure when this is going to happen.
    • Skype gave me the option on the PC to sign in with Facebook, which was very convenient, but then it would not let me sign in via my mobile, which was quite frustrating. I am not sure if this is fixed, but it made the usability tougher.
    • It seems that Skype slowed down by being acquired- first by eBay and then by Microsoft. andnbsp;Hopefully, it gets some stability- I would love to see what it could have become if it remained independent.
