Mega is one of the older services I've been using, I started using Mega since it's old version and now that they have the "new" platform it's been great, the security of files is great, I honestly prefer to upload my files here rather than other places that claim to be secure. Bandwidth is excellent and sharing files with your friends is easy, basically, just drag and drop your files into the platform and that's it.

You can limit your files to be private or get a specific link to share specific things with people, and this is something that I use all the time and I think is important.

    Pros :

Some things that I like about Mega:

    • Platform Support: I've used Mega for sharing purposes for a while, and I haven't had any kind of problems, I even tried the desktop app, and it was ok but I preferred to keep using the web version (Just because I like it a little more, and I don't like using desktop software if not necessary)
    • Files security: Mega is made by Kim.com (people who know him will understand why I'm naming him), and I know that the platform is one of the safest for saving your files that you'll find over the internet, I know this because no even mega knows the encryption codes (knowing that it's based on AES) one of the finest encryption schemas that I know, if you wonder why I'm talkingandnbsp; about this, it's because I'm a programmer, and I know a little about security schemas and protocols.
    • UX/UI: I really enjoy the use of platforms with a good user experience/interface and mega is just unique, the user experience has been great so far, the design is original, and it actually makes you enjoy the platform while using it (which is something that I value a lot).

    Cons :

    • I don't really have any complaints about Mega, but I think maybe they could improve a little the platform preloader, I don't know why but sometimes it takes more time that you'd like to open the platform, it's not too long, but it's a little annoying.

MEGA is a great service that allows you to save all your files online in a cloud environment. Thanks to the considerable amount of space available, you can keep all your data secure (the data is also kept safe with an advanced encryption system) always available on the server and all at no cost because the service is free (within the 50GB).

To start using the service you need to go to the website, the site will ask you now to carry out an upload, the upload is simply possible to do it by dragging and dropping the first file you want to load, to this will display the screen of the terms of service that you will have to agree to begin using the service and to make a login.

    Pros :

    • Mega has different strengths, let's see: First of all, the 50GB free, I want to emphasize this point because it is not a trivial thing, holding in mind that Google Drive provides 15GB free (and we're talking about Google).
    • Another plus is the ease of use and really simple web interface and attractive, very modern and at the same time very slim.
    • Even the loading speed is not bad, this helps a lot the use of this service, the speed, of course, can change if you do not have a high-performance connection.
    • Another of Mega strength is the ability to create shared folders.
    • Shares are very similar to shared Google Drive folders where you and other Mega users can interact on your folders at the same time, and from anywhere.
    • Another service provided by Mega is the filesharing service. This allows you to get the URL for download to allow a user to download the file that you just want to send by sending a link.
    • A very nice feature is to download the files directly to the cloud without necessarily passing by your harddisk, then think of Mega as an external, online device.
    • Use the interface is really simple and intuitive, you have to open your folders immediately available, the convenient buttons to immediately create a new folder, upload files, create shared folders, access the menu, etc.
    • Mega folders Mega also allows you to increase the available sun Cloud space, you can make professional plans up to a maximum of 4TB of online storage, very good service.

    Cons :

    • Nothing to say, easy, fast, clean, free, something else?

Mega is the successor to MegaUpload - the controversial and infamous file sharing service which was synonymous with privacy and questionable content. Mega is a huge improvement in many ways, and is nowadays one of the best file hosting platforms available. It is definitely a crowded market, with big cloud players such as Google Drive and Dropbox, however, Mega has a very interesting selling point which the others do not - highly secure end-to-end encryption. One of the best reasons for using Mega is, therefore, the fact that file transfers are secure from beginning to end. Besides the excellent endpoint encryption, there are a few other reasons why Mega is an excellent contender in the cloud storage space. Free accounts are able to upload files until a generous limit of 50GB is reached. This is generally quite a bit more than Mega's main competitors. Besides this, Dropbox and Google Drive-style features are also available, including a desktop application to synchronise files on a local machine, in bulk. Contrary to other services, this also works quite intelligently, by syncing files when the least amount of bandwidth is being utilised on the respective machine. Accessing and sharing files can be done quite effortlessly through browsers, mobile apps and the Mega client sync desktop application. File sharing is in fact very user-friendly and works in a similar way to Google Drive and Dropbox. In terms of security, no passwords are actually stored on Mega's servers. The disadvantage of this is that changing a password is impossible if the user has forgotten their existing one, and did not save the master key which is generated at account creation. While the 50GB upload limit is quite generous, it must be noted that throttling is highly evident on free accounts, and I have experienced this myself on many occasions, both when uploading as well as downloading. When downloading files, another annoyance is that files are first downloaded to the browser's local storage, for the endpoint encryption to work. This can cause memory issues on Chrome.

    Pros :

    • One of the best and only implementations for end-to-end encryption.
    • Free plan allows users to upload 50GB worth of files.
    • A desktop application is available to handle file syncing, similar to Dropbox.
    • The file sync application works intelligently to synchronise files when the least amount of bandwidth is being used on the client PC.
    • Best choice for security-conscious users.
    • No passwords are actually stored on Mega’s end.
    • Mobile apps are available for the most popular platforms.
    • File sharing is simple and works in a similar way to Google Drive and Dropbox.

    Cons :

    • Downloads which take place in browser’s local storage can be bothersome for large files.
    • Throttling is highly evident on free accounts.
    • Forgetting a password can have consequences.

Do you remember Megaupload file sharing service? After it was closed by USA authorities due to copyright infringement the owner of Megaupload Kim Dotcom decided to create the sort of unreachable file storage service. Thus, Mega was born. The servers that store user data were put in New Zealand, and users are welcome to store any files. Since every user gets the 50 GB of free space, it's possible to store not only family photos, but also the music collection and even some favorite movies. No need to worry about security because all files are encrypted with 2048-bit RSA key on the client side. In other words, they are encrypted before sending to the server, and no one could access them without knowing the user's password. By the way, you'd better not to forget it since it is used as an encryption key. Initially, the only way to download files to the service was dragging them into the browser window. It wasn't convenient, but for now Mega offers good desktop and mobile clients. They are used not only for files uploading, but also for automatic sync. MEGA client for Android has all the features that you can expect. You can delete or move files, create files links and share them with other people, search in the own repository. Mobile app can also automatically upload on server all photos and videos taken by the device camera.

    Pros :

    • You get 50 GB of free storage.
    • The files are encrypted on the user side.
    • The file size is unlimited.
    • There are not only mobile app for all major mobile OS, but also browser extensions for Chrome and Firefox.

    Cons :

    • 10GB bandwidth limits on free accounts.
    • The upload speed is sometimes very slow You can not preview files in browser (because they are encrypted).
    • Password recovery is not possible.
