In the overcrowded space of cloud services, there is not much room for new companies offering more of the same thing. There are literally hundreds of services which offer file storage and sharing capabilities, and very few of them have unique features which set them apart from the competition. One would, therefore, think that Jumpshare is just another cloud-based file sharing service. However, it is not just a normal file sharing service - it is one of the fastest ways (if not the fastest) of sharing large files with other users. It is, therefore, the best suited for power users who often need to share large files with other users, and do not concern themselves much with actually keeping files online for use later on.While Jumpshare offers the same functionality as Google Drive, Dropbox and other services, its main selling point is being able to share files with other users very quickly, through an extremely quick workflow. This is accomplished by generating a shareable link as soon as a file is dragged and dropped onto the Jumpshare taskbar icon - i.e. before the file is even uploaded. This hence allows users to share a link to a file before it is even uploaded.Screenshots can also be automatically uploaded and a link shared to the clipboard. Users can then view most files in the browser itself, through an excellent viewer. For users who don't want to download a desktop application, Files can be dragged and dropped on the website too. Finally, triggers are available so as to customise what happens when a file is dragged and dropped into Jumpshare, such as sending the link by email straight away. Jumpshare is not without limits, though - individual files cannot be larger than 250MB within the free plan, unlike Dropbox and Google Drive. Furthermore, the free plan only grants users 2GB of space, which contrasts greatly with services like Box.net.

Pros :

  • Extremely fast and easy to share files - much easier than its competitors.
  • Allows users to drag and drop files into the application, and a shareable link is automatically generated while the file uploads.
  • Excellent online viewer available for a large array of file types.
  • Excellent for power-users due to the fast workflow involved with uploading and sharing a file.
  • Can share files while they are still uploading.
  • Files can be uploaded on the website or through the desktop application.

Cons :

  • Files cannot be larger than 250MB in free plan.
  • Free plan has limit of 2GB.

Hightail is the rebranded version of YouSendIt. It originally began as a service to send large files which were too big to be sent as an email attachment. But now after changing the name to Hightail, it also provides cloud storage, file synchronization and electronic signature in addition to sharing large files. It also offers document tracking so that one can know when a recipient has opened or downloaded a file. Hightail offers desktop applications, mobile applications and Outlook plugins which make it available across almost all platforms. It offers a free account with 2 GB of cloud storage and a maximum file size of 250 MB. Paid version gives you unlimited storage and e-signature with a 2 GB limit on the maximum file size.

Pros :

One can set sharing controls and files can be accessed from anywhere on any device. It offers a dedicated folder which is synced across the devices. One can simply drag and drop the files to be synced to this folder. You can also set expiration date for the shared documents so that one cannot access or download those files or documents after a specified time. Even a limit can be applied on the total number of downloads using a particular link. Files can even be password protected for an additional layer of protection. It enhances the productivity as one can access official files on other devices and start from where you left at the office. Any changes made are reflected in real time to all the devices. Hightail can be used directly from Outlook and Sharepoint. It offers unparalleled security for your digital content all the time. The data is always encrypted whether in transit or on Hightail server. The Hightail data centers are protected by Firewalls and antivirus solutions for protection against hackers and malware. The files can even be wiped out remotely in case of a lost or stolen laptop or a mobile device.

Cons :

Hightail cannot be integrated with CRM solutions like Salesforce which limits its use. Also, version management is not available which is a big miss as when used as a file collaboration platform, multiple people will work on the same file and if something goes wrong accidentally, there should always be an option to roll back to a previous version. No URL shortener service is integrated with Hightail which makes it difficult to share the file links on social media like Twitter which have word limitations.

These days, you can share files using all of the different cloud storage providers like Dropbox and OneDrive, but if all you want is a super easy way to share files with people, Jumpshare might be worth a look.

When it comes to sharing files, Hightail is definitely one of the best available. The unlimited number of downloads, uploads, sends and storage space in addition to easy web access from your desktop, laptop or mobile devices means you can share all of your favorite files, anytime, anywhere. The tracking lets you know instantly if your files are being viewed and who is viewing them.

This program used to be good, but now is so slow I can't even deal with it. The upload speeds are as if I have dial up. I mainly have an issue with any file that is bigger that 50mb. I use the desktop app, still slow, so then I started using wetransfer as a comparison. What would (450mb file) take 5 hours to upload on Hightail literally only took 19 minutes to upload with wetransfer, so obviously the problem isn't with me, it's with Hightail. Oh and if you tell hightail that the upload speeds are mindnumbingly slow, they tell you it's your fault... which would be true if it weren't for wetransfer showing me evidence to the contrary.
