StatCounter is one of the widely used analysis software used by the Publishers of a Website. It has loads of interesting features which enables one to take quick and smart decisions based on the analysis reports provided by StatCounter applications. The best part of this application is free of charge, and one need to enter credit card or debit card details to get started. Implementation of StatCounter is quite simple process. Install the Application on your local machine and use the code provided by the Software, which one needs to place in the web space of our website. This will enable Statcounter to read data from the website and provide information to the administrator or publisher about the behaviour of the visitors on the site. The functionalities in terms of analytics of the website is not comprehensive enough, there is other good applications and software available on the market. Real-time analytics of the website needs to be worked on more.

Pros :

  • Implementation as said is quite easy.
  • It also allows one to track multiple websites from one account.
  • We need to enter the website details and put the generated tracking code, in the websites, so that StatCounter can start tracking the user behavior.
  • It also has strong report delivery mechanism, wherein one can set automated email reports.
  • The reports can be delivery weekly, monthly or yearly basis.
  • One can track the links through which customer has visited our website. One can also track file downloads from our website.
  • It shows page views and unique visits on the web page.
  • It also provides geographical locations and demographics of the visitors. Geographical location in terms of countries, states or regions and cities from where the customers are coming are tracked.
  • This helps in geo-location tagging of our Website. Quite User-friendly and can be easily configurable.

Cons :

  • The functionalities in terms of analytics of the website are not comprehensive enough, there is other good applications and software available on the market.
  • Real-time analytics of the website needs to be worked on more.

Crazy Egg is a great heat map tool that allows you to get a visual representation of how users engage with your website, with several ways to see the data, from the ‘confetti’ click locations, to scroll maps that help you to understand the percentage of people who scroll down your website. It provides you with a clear picture of obstacles that your users may be facing and buttons/links that are not being clicked, allowing you to update your pages to make them more intuitive and function the way that your users expect them to function.

Pros :

There are plans that have been designed for everyone, from a small low-cost plan that provides enough data for somebody that has a small website with low traffic, to agencies that manage high traffic websites, tracking multiple pages across multiple domains. There are several ways to view your user engagement, each one of them has its own benefits, giving you clear visuals of user interaction. You can block IP addresses to ensure that you (or your company) don’t influence the results The interface is so easy to use, allowing you to quickly set up tracking and easily switch between your snapshots.

Cons :

If you show different content to returning users using cookies, Crazy Egg will not recognise this, which means that the original snapshot of your page will be shown despite user interaction with different content. After downloading reports for pages that use javascript to make navigation stick to the top of the page, I found that the snapshots were affected which made them unusable. You have to pay for a full year, so despite the monthly costs working out low, you need to be ready to pay for and commit to a full year.

In the subject of online marketing, it is very important to analyse and track statistics related to user interaction with your website. The most popular product for doing so is undoubtedly Google Analytics. However, there are some products that are just as good and offer some more interesting features, which are worth looking into. One such product is Clicky, which truly stacks up with Google Analytics, and even has some great features that are missing from Google Analytics. First of all, Clicky is very easy to setup - just like Google Analytics and HotJar. Installation is quick and effortless. Similar to Analytics, Clicky has some methods to access the data, including mobile apps, a web application and even browser extensions. Clicky can even integrate with the most popular content management systems (such as WordPress and Joomla) very easily, through the installation of plugins. Unlike Google Analytics, Clicky's data is provided in real-time, and it is even possible to see detailed data on visitors currently accessing the website, at a particular point in time. This detailed data includes IP addresses, geographical data and other demographics. It is also possible to view the source of traffic, which helps to improve SEO and target the website for particular keywords and topics. Besides this, Clicky also shows users' engagement on the site, and the inclusion of heat maps (similar to HotJar) greatly aids in figuring out which parts of the website are most relevant for particular users. Unfortunately, heat maps and some other extremely useful features are only available in premium versions of Clicky. Clicky also provides statistical data based on a website's performance on social media, including engagement, shares, comments, etc. This statistical data and other analytics are easily visible on Clicky's dashboard, which only contains the most relevant data that most users would want to take a look at quickly, within a summarised format.

Pros :

  • Easy to setup.
  • Can access data from multiple devices and through plugins.
  • All data is real-time.
  • A clean dashboard is containing most important information.
  • Integrates well with most CMS and online platforms such as WordPress and Joomla.
  • Ability to view traffic sources.
  • Real-time visitor data.
  • Heatmaps like HotJar.
  • Detailed analytics including user searches, engagement and demographics.
  • Ability to see how website performs on social media.

Cons :

  • The most useful features, such as heatmaps, are not free.

I discovered Google Analytics when I made a Redbubble account and started uploading my work. I wanted to keep track of how many visitors my page had, saw my content, know which of those contents was the most popular.. overall statistics about my page and how to manage it.I found this platform to be very user-friendly and tried it with my portfolio, it was the best decision I've made. I can now see how many people come to my site, what they do when they're there, how much time they spend on a tab and which of my posts are more popular.

Pros :

  • It gives you important information about the types of costumers who visit your page, so managing your content is easier and more effective.
  • The range of reports and statistics are amazing. It makes basic reports, but it also allows you to dig deeper and make advanced analysis of your data results.
  • Even if you don't really know how to use it, there are several videos online and across the tool to help and teach you how to use it.
  • It is a software made by Google, so it is constantly updating and getting new features.
  • There is also a mobile app analytic, but I've never tried it.
  • It is also free software, so my advice is to go ahead and give it a try!

Cons :

  • At first glance it looks like a complex platform, it can be a little overwhelming, there should be a video guided walkthrough / tour when you first sign up.
  • Complex visualization of the data like the views flow are great, but kind of hard to customize and applying filtering actions is nearly impossible.
  • Once you understand how the page / system works you'll see it's quite simple to use, very effective, and it'll become a fun / interesting tool to use.

I use Statcounter for all my sites. In fact, anytime I log online, I always track the most recent search queries driving traffic to my sites from search engines before doing any other thing. Easier and fast for me to track compared to using Google Analytics which I analyse once in a while.

I’ve tested a couple of other heatmap tracking tools and none of them has come near to what Crazy Egg has to offer. Ditch the eye tracking tools, and even In-Page analytics, and pick up Crazy Egg if you want to increase your website’s conversion rate. I highly recommend Crazy Egg. It’s very easy to use and fairly priced. It gives you what you want. No fluff!

Clicky Analytics is what I use when I want to make sure I understand my audience’s behavior. Try it out – after you sign up, you get all the premium features for one month without paying a cent. After that trial period Clicky is still functional and useful. Updating would be the better thing to do though.

Google Analytics is a free service and is arguably one of the most powerful tools you'll ever use in order to develop your website. It links with all of your other Google account information allowing you to access everything from a single connection. The charts are appealing and the information is greatly accurate. Since bots can appear seemingly random, it's a welcome change to not have to include those inorganic numbers if you are trying to gauge your site's popularity.

What do you like best?Crazy Egg has the possibility to be such a powerful tool. It's very easy to add the javascript snippet and to export results. One thing I love is that Crazy Egg allows you to download snapshot results in a convenient zip folder, with different files laid out. Each snapshot also features the conditions (time frame, number of visitors and actions and site name) right there on the file, which is nice for providing context. What do you dislike? The interface is rough. ROUGH. Their menu options are hidden and often times you are left wondering "OK, now what do I do?" For example, if you reach your limit of screenshots, they bring you to a screen to delete screenshots but you can't do it one at a time, you need to select all before they will give you the option to delete. Also the "in snapshot" menu can be really confusing.Recommendations to others considering the productCrazy Egg can be rather unreliable when it comes to the data it provides, so only use its features as a back-up. It's a great tool for helping to validate certain ideas or testing opportunities, but as a tool it has it's faults - for example, sometimes it doesn't gather all clicks, or if some content doesn't come into focus right away (say via Parallax) then it won't show you really what customers are clicking on. Basically don't rely solely upon Crazy Egg.What business problems are you solving? What benefits have you realized?I am helping to solve the problem of confused website visitors - making it easier to find roadblocks visitors face when they are looking to complete a conversion. I help clients make money by making the customer experience a better, more logical one. Removing clutter and sharpening site messaging. Besides the obvious financial benefits, I have achieved the added benefits of improved usability, site performance, cleaner design and consistent messaging during all steps in a site's sales funnel.

Google Analytics offers users an amazing amount of data about their website visitors. Primarily geared toward e-commerce, some of the functionality of Google Analytics isn’t relevant to libraries. More importantly, the data is given without context, allowing users to see how website visitors are behaving but not why. In light of this, Google Analytics is most powerful as a tool for gathering information to complement and inform other library assessment efforts.
