Alexa provides information about websites including Top Sites, Internet Traffic Stats and Metrics, Related Links, Online Reviews Contact Information and Search Analytics for SEM and SEO optimization. The Alexa Toolbar is a browser add-on that shows data about sites as you surf the web.
Alexa's traffic estimates are based on data from its global traffic panel, which is a sample of millions of Internet users using one of over 25,000 different browser extensions. In addition, it gathers much of its traffic data from direct sources in the form of sites that have chosen to install the Alexa script on their site and certify their metrics. However, site owners can always choose to keep their certified metrics private.
Alexa's global traffic rank is a measure of how a website is doing relative to all other sites on the web over the past 3 months. The rank is calculated using a proprietary methodology that combines a site's estimated average of daily unique visitors and its estimated number of pageviews over the past 3 months. Alexa provides a similar country-specific ranking, which is a measurement of how a website ranks in a particular country relative to other sites over the past month.

I use Alexa to gauge how popular websites are for business purposes. I work in PR, so we rank different media outlets/websites in a tiered approach, based on the analytics provided by Alexa.
Pros : Extremely easy to use. Seems accurate and consistent. Well-known, credible site.
Cons : I don't have any cons for Alexa. Sometimes I check its accuracy by comparing to Compete.com, but I have never had any issues.

Alexa pro upgrade shows fruitful results for high traffic blogs which are having low alexa rank but its not at all recommended to upgrade for pro if your blog already has a good alexa rank.

It is not that Alexa is the #1 service available, but they do provide one of the better services while being free. Every few years it seems they fall behind and become a bit of a relic, and then every few years they catch up. Recently when using Alexa I saw they added a good number of features, so I thought it would be worth doing a run down.
