SAP takes HR solutions to the cloud

By on May 28, 2012

Apart from acquiring cloud firms to become a major player in the cloud computing pool, SAP is now taking HR solutions to the cloud as well. A move that incorporates a large set of cloud-based human capital management (HCM) solutions into SAP products.

The company has announced business solutions for being able to handle personnel, money, customers and suppliers. All these will be seamlessly integrated with the enterprise resource planning (ERP) business software.

According to Business cloud 9, although SAP had been operating the software in the business world for some time, it is the SuccessFactors purchase at the turn of the year that gave it the kick-start in the market.

By just doing core HR in the cloud, talent management was not at all successful. Instead of that the two firms SAP and HCM solutions were brought together, in doing so it gave them what they were looking for.

It’s given them the ability to accelerate their capabilities in the core HR area in Employee Central. So sharing resources and experience, they are much better together than separate.

As a result, SAP is now selling three main cloud offerings: Cloud Global Payroll, Employee Central (SuccessFactors’ core HR product) and new integration tools between cloud and on-premise HR systems.

SAP is already number 1 vendor, with 25% market share by revenue in 2011, and now it is targeting cloud competitors such as NetSuite, FinancialForce, Workday, etc. Its going to be a year of consolidation?

Yes we might see some consolidation and we will see different service providers create different niche areas for themselves. Companies are extending their traditional areas of expertise to the cloud as well, so what we are seeing is a rapid migration of skills from traditional IT to the cloud.
